We’ve decided to try for a baby properly for the first time. I had a v. Early mc when I was 33 which was an unplanned pregnancy. At a scan after they said all looked well so assuming that’s true what would you/did you do to give yourself the best chance? I know I’ve left it pretty late but that’s just the way life worked out.

I’ve bought folic acid, we’re DTD like rabbits and I’ve bought some ovulation sticks to try but any top tips would be much appreciated!

I wouldn’t do anything other than plenty of sex for now. If you have problems conceiving, you can look at all the other stuff.

37 isn’t old. I know many women who have got pregnant quickly and easily at that age.

Happened to me.

Did nothing except have a lot of sex.

I conceived multiple times after 37, first time every time. Don't assume it won't happen.

Get yourself a copy of 'it all starts with an egg' and take the supplements it recommends, don't drink alcohol or coffee, eat healthily, exercise but not crazily - if you're overweight - lose it. Get your partner to do the same. Track your ovulation and get yourself a bbt thermometer to check ovulation. Sex every other day in your fertile period which your ovulation and bbt tracking will tell you when it is.

Good luck!

I just wanted to come back and update this in case anyone is reading this in their late 30s and feeling anxious. I got pregnant a couple of weeks after I posted this on our 2nd cycle of trying.

I’d been taking Proceive Max for 2 weeks and used Preseed lube twice but I can’t say either had an impact.

I did a home fertility test at the start of this cycle and it came back with a really high Prolactin result and slightly high AMH which I worried a LOT about. Had repeat bloods that month with the GP and the level was drastically different and perfectly normal. I wish I’d saved myself the worrying and just given myself a bit of time for nature to have a chance!

I’m not quite 5 weeks yet so it’s very, very early days but it’s given me a lot of hope and I’m hopeful it encourages anyone else in a similar position!

Conceived first time in late 30s several times (2DC, 1MC). No particular tips - was healthy weight, exercised well, didn't drink much, took vitamins. Good luck

Sorry I know I’m a bit younger, I’m only 30 but it took us 2 years to conceive and I’m now just over 9 weeks!
But I think what finally done it for us was me losing 4.5 stone, cut back on alcohol and using the ovucore temp monitor! Might be a fluke but I got pregnant the first month using that! Good luck ❤️

Rabbitmad89 · 28/11/2024 06:09

Just seen your update! Amazing news, congratulations!!

I conceived by accident at 42 so you hopefully will be fine. Also i was 36 with my youngest

ehb102 · 28/11/2024 08:49

I ate well, slept well and exercised.

Try and relax. I do believe stress can affect your chances. Use the Clearblue ovulation tracker. Eat healthily, reduce alcohol (you and your partner). I got pregnant at 37. It took about 8 months. I had a couple of extremely early miscarriages (like a few days after my period was due). I only knew I was pregnant because I was obsessively testing. I ended up having a very healthy child.
