Just been away with another family consisted of mum, dad and 16 year old son.
We cooked breakfast each morning before going out for the day. (Me, dp, my 2 year old)

Im the only one who doesn’t eat meat. So I bought some hash browns, potato cakes, beans & toast . Heaven!

last day, sausages, bacon, fried bread, beans and toast for everyone. I had one potato cake left.
i was busy making coffee for everyone, put cups in front of everyone then sat down for my breakfast.

They left me a spoonful of beans, all toast was gone and my last remaining potato cake was upon the 16 year olds plate under 3 sausages, 5 rashers of bacon, 2 slices of toast and a pile of beans.

One spoonful of fucking beans. No bread left for toast.

So! WWYD?

What do you do? You never ever go away with these people ever again - that is what you do. Inconsiderate, self-centred bunch of twats!

ConstanceM · 25/10/2024 19:58

They sound like horrible inconsiderate c*s

GetTheFormDone · 25/10/2024 20:02

I would have said, that I can’t believe nobody saved me breakfast and I would have been very cross about it. And I would never go away with these idiots again. What poor form.

PinkyFlamingo · 25/10/2024 19:46

Why didn't your DH plate your food up first? If everything is on one plate including the potato cake then it's a free for all really

Well, if you're a self-centred twat it is.

AngryBookworm · 25/10/2024 20:09

The absolute cheek of that kid does not surprise me given his parents. It sounds like it's barely occurred to him that other people exist, let alone that they might have needs like his own. I do agree with others that your DH shouldn't have put your food on the communal plate though - you should have got a separate plate. Sounds like he didn't get much either though so I'm sure a lesson was learned! And now you know not to go away with them again...

Cherrysoup · 25/10/2024 20:10

I’d have been furious. Certainly wouldn’t be going away with them again, they’ve shown a collectively inconsiderate and selfish attitude.

Pippetypoppity · 25/10/2024 20:12

What a spoiled little shit.

Hankunamatata · 25/10/2024 20:13

Well they are just bloody rude.

Usually I plate up and put extra in middle of the table esp if there are veggie or vegan guests

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 25/10/2024 20:20

I would be raging!

This reminds me of an episode that happened in my life 15 years ago and that I had completely forgotten until your post triggered it.

My then DP and I went to Madrid once with another couple. All good but one day we went and purchased churros with chocolate to take away for all of us. Each of us had some churros and a little pot of chocolate. I didn’t finish mine and left it on the table for next day for breakfast.

The following day is when we had to leave so before having breakfast I was busy tidy g abd putting the washing machine. When I finished I realised that my churros and chocolate weren’t on the table and I asked where they were…

Well, the CF (DP’s friend) had them for breakfast as he thought I didn’t want them. I asked angrily how the hell did he know and if he is able to read minds as he didn’t have the decency to ask me. He had had his bloody churros the night before why on earth did he think he had a claim to mine.

I was gobsmaked and the friendship never truly recovered…

ForDogsSake · 25/10/2024 17:42

I'd have stabbed my fork in it and dragged it back while saying thanks for keeping it warm.
Same with the toast.

Me too!
I would definitely would not hold back where breakfast food is concerned. You snooze, you lose.

Notwhatuwanttohear · 25/10/2024 20:28

If you was that desperate for the potato cake why didn't you keep it to the side for yourself or not serve it with everything else.

You can't blame people for taking food if it's a free for all.

Next time serve yourself and dc before everyone else.

More fool you for making all these freeloaders coffee, why can't they do it themselves.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 25/10/2024 20:30

They sounds like cunts

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 25/10/2024 20:30

She was making coffee.

Is it so difficult to consider other peoplw? Why were they tucking in if no everyone was sitting at the table?

Lack of manners all around…

Because they're selfish fucks who don't care.
I don't get why the op was waiting on them hand and foot let the fuckers cook and make coffee themselves.

Look at the thanks she got for it.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/10/2024 20:46

pretty standard amount of food for some fast-growing 16 year olds, but there should have been a discussion with the parents involved about what was going to be left for you and whether it was enough.

Surely if ALL the food is a free-for-all, then you can use your eyes to work out that if Augustus Gloop is sat there with his plate piled high and nothing much is left, then it wont be an equal share?!

Not ruddy rocket science is it

That's just weird in a lot of ways. The fact that there were churros left in the first place (who leaves churros?!? 😆)

Second, that you just left them on the kitchen table for any flies or bacteria or whatever to get in them.

Third, that you didn't mention to anyone else in a jokey way "these are mine, Im' having them for breakfast tomorrow so I'll be after you if you snaffle them." In the way you would with people you knew well. And it's only those sort of people I'd be prepared to go on holiday with.

Fourth, that he didn't ask around next day to see if they were going spare.

Tistheseason17 · 25/10/2024 20:50

Had same with friends. Didn't get shopping, hoarded food when it arrived, took too much food and then never ate it, left us hungry and never cleaned up.
They are not our friends anymore. Holiday showed us that once comfy, people stop putting on a polite front and if they are selfish aresholes, that is what you'll end up seeing - the real them.
No longer friends with them. Phew!

There were 4 adults, one teenager and a toddler. Pretty easy to size up the food and realise if you're taking more than a fair share.

MochaBear · 25/10/2024 20:54

Maybe they thought you had already put some aside for yourself? Making the coffee could have waited until you all had finished eating otherwise if i was in your place i would have put my food in a plate separately so i could have it after i finished making coffee 🤷🏻‍♀️

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/10/2024 20:55

OP, if we're doing a fry up for a few people we tend to put the sausages, bacon etc in a warm oven to keep warm while we finish things like fried egg. Beans can just be doing on a low heat.

We all eat together.

Even if youd decided to put the "help yourself" stuff out on the table, you shoudl have kept a plate aside for you in the kitchen and put your share on there (keeping it warm in the oven if necessary while you finished the coffee).

Overall, though, I can't believe there was just zero communication going on about who was having what. I have NEVER experienced that in a group self-catering situation. There is usually a lot of shouting across the room "Ali, did you say you only want one sausage?" "DH, put mine out for me, will you, I want X, Y and Z."

Why no communication?

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 25/10/2024 21:07

I love a potato cake too.
I never buy them usually. I was super looking forward to that last one.

They brought the sausages & bacon from their local butchers, we took the bread, beans, potato cakes, hash browns, tea, coffee, milk, butter and sauces. With me not eating any of the meats, it was a nice trade off as I know meat is expensive.
Took it in turns to cook breakfasts which worked out lovely.

pfffft.

Really belly laughing at Augustus Gloop 🤣

Not much you can do really apart from lesson learnt and no more holidays with them.

This

daisychain01 · 25/10/2024 21:13

It was no longer suitable after being sat underneath greasy bacon and sausages.

why was it buried beneath bacon and sausages in the first place? What a way to eat, piled up food on the plate. Gross.

pestowithwalnuts · 25/10/2024 21:16

Bet you think twice about going on holiday with them again
