BTW this is not a boasting post. I know more kids will read much more, I'm just asking out of curiosity as I would like her reading more now that winter is coming in.

I was a very avid reader from well before school age, and I'm a writer now. A kid who reads at all is doing well in the modern world, where screen time seems to rule their leisure time. Finding out what genres kids enjoy, and catering to that, DOES encourage them to read more. Also talking to them about what they're reading focuses their attention on it more; finding out what they like about a particular story, etc. My father used to take an interest in what I read, there were always lots of books available, and he would also tell me what HE was reading. We had active discussions about reading, they didn't just leave me to it, and that made a big difference to me. Children thrive with encouragement to read, but nobody can force them or expect more if they don't want to do it. Some will, some won't. Adults don't read enough themselves, a lot of the time, and role models are important . I think it's great that your child is reading! 😀💜
