Husband called friend an idiot…..

I am in a charity fundraising club. This morning a friend called round to drop off some things, collect some things and share some great fundraising ideas. My husband came in from the local shop and said who is the idiot parked across our drive. Knowing full well it was the woman in front of him. I was and remain shocked and surprised, he thinks it was funny, I do not . He refuses to acknowledge that this is an inappropriate way to speak to ANY woman. He would never call me an idiot. He did apologise at my insistence, but continues to maintain it was ok.

I always hate idiots parking over my drive. Or rather as the Facebook pages would say parking like a twat.

Faldodiddledee · 19/10/2024 13:21

It's not idiotic to park across your friend's drive if you are popping some things around and run in. We do it a lot in our neighbourhood, and my next door neighbours told me I could! If one of them comes back during that time, they would just pop round and say can you move the car, but that hardly ever happens. People popping round are not using a random's space, are they?!

I think he was making a joke, and unless she was offended there's no issue.

Faldodiddledee · 19/10/2024 13:21

It's not someone randomly parking across the drive though, it's a visitor popping some stuff in to that exact house!

FGS. “Idiot” is pretty much the mildest term I can think of, it’s not aggressive or misogynistic. How do you cope with things that are actually upsetting and offensive? And parking across someone’s drive is idiotic.

All of this. It's a stupid, annoying thing to do.

Strawberry4Supermoon · 19/10/2024 13:25

Was she blocking the drive so he couldn't get in? If so, sorry ... bit of an idiot ...

Marblesbackagain · 19/10/2024 13:29

Alalalala · 19/10/2024 13:17

@Marblesbackagain I don’t think he’s abusive, I think to call someone an idiot is an abusive term: an insult.

Name calling is unnecessary. Describe the behaviour, don’t name call.

Nope she was a bloody idiot. You do you but she was an idiot.

Alalalala · 19/10/2024 13:29

She may have done something wrong in that respect but I don’t think name calling is alright.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 19/10/2024 13:30

Sounds like a joke. I wouldn’t worry.

LordFartQuads · 19/10/2024 13:31

It was a bit daft of her to block the driveway but I would be mortified if my dh called my friend an idiot unless it was in the middle of backwards and forwards banter and very obviously a joke. It sounds like he thought he was being funny but completely missed the mark. How did your friend react?

To a family member or very close friend I might say it in a very joking way. To an acquaintance or someone meeting for the first time- absolutely not. Very rude. If they were causing and obstruction then he should have politely asked the. to move.

ginasevern · 19/10/2024 13:41

I'm obviously a bit of a weirdo then because I personally would not want my DH to call my friend/colleague an idiot to their face. Certainly not for briefly blocking the driveway anyway.

wildfellhall · 19/10/2024 14:01

This would be normal behaviour in this house by my DH but not to the person's face

murasaki · 19/10/2024 14:04

I didn't know being a woman gave you a free pass from being called an idiot when you are an idiot.

Wellingtonspie · 19/10/2024 14:04

Did husband know you where expecting a guest… did the guest stop husband getting back onto your own drive.

My in-laws have a four car drive. You would be an idiot to see only one car on a huge drive and decide to block access to the drive itself by parking over the end..

WigglyVonWaggly · 19/10/2024 14:06

Of course she’s a bloody idiot! Who is going to tell these people if the owners of the drive don’t?! If anything, he did it cleverly by saying what he thought while pretending to not know it was your idiot friend. Good on him.

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 19/10/2024 14:16

I get as enraged as anybody else at CF parkers blocking drives... but I really don't see any great issue with doing so when you're actually visiting that house.

I probably wouldn't do it myself, but when you're physically there, invited/expected/welcomed - maybe only for a few minutes too - and could move at a moment's notice, it's not a big deal imho.

LorettyTen · 19/10/2024 14:18

Would it have been OK to call a man an idiot for doing the same?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/10/2024 14:23

Does she drive a pink, purple and yellow clown car with elephant ears?

If not, how would he know that the generic vehicle parked across the drive is anything to do with somebody in the house?

Babbadoobabbadock · 19/10/2024 14:27

LorettyTen · 19/10/2024 14:18

Would it have been OK to call a man an idiot for doing the same?

Absolutely, and also nobhead

Cas112 · 19/10/2024 14:53

Only an idiot would find that upsetting 😂

LorettyTen · 19/10/2024 15:15

Babbadoobabbadock · 19/10/2024 14:27

Absolutely, and also nobhead

I agree. The OP specified "ANY woman" but if anyone blocks your drive they're an idiot, nob, w⚓️, regardless of sex!

BCBird · 19/10/2024 16:04

I think the fact that he said it to a woman is irrelevant. I would think.someone was an idiot if they had done that, especially if they knew you had a car and therefore would need to access the drive.

BabyCloud · 19/10/2024 16:27

Rude and an awful way to make a guest feel.

RampantRamparts · 19/10/2024 16:30

This was either a very tame (and correct) reaction to someone parking across a driveway.

OR

An attempt at jokey bantz.

Either way, I don’t see an issue.

QuintessentialDragon · 19/10/2024 16:36

Well if it walks like an idiot, and quacks like an idiot.. And all that.

And what is this shit: 'He refuses to acknowledge that this is an inappropriate way to speak to ANY woman.'?
