To Have This For Lunch? (Safe to Eat - Raw Prawns??!)

Last night I made fish pie in advance.
Cooked the sauce, took off the heat, then stirred in raw prawns and fish.
Topped with mash potatoes.
Left it on the side for the potato to fully cool before I put in the fridge.
Plan was to cook it in the oven today for lunch.
However, I sat down on the sofa and nodded off!
I was asleep for 5hrs 30mins.
Woke up in middle of the night, put pie in the fridge where it has been ever since.
Will it be ok to cook this pie in the oven for lunch today?

If no- can I pick the prawns out, replace with fresh, smooth the potato over, and then pop in oven?!

Argh I'm so annoyed.

I am pretty cavalier about things like this but raw prawns and fish with warm mash and sauce at room temp for five hours sounds like a breeding ground for disaster.

LilacCatt · 19/10/2024 07:12

Okay 😢 thought so...

I would 100% cook it and eat it today.

Birdsongsinging · 19/10/2024 07:13

purplebeansprouts · 19/10/2024 07:13

No. Don't mess around with fish.

arethereanyleftatall · 19/10/2024 07:15

You won't be eating raw prawns though- you're cooking it?
I would have absolutely no second thoughts whatsoever about cooking and eating this today.,

WillowTit · 19/10/2024 07:15

cook for a long time in the oven

Zampa · 19/10/2024 07:16

I would cook and eat it but I wouldn't serve it to guests

Moonshine5 · 19/10/2024 07:17

5hr and 30 mins is not a nap.

No one said it was?

Why?

YouveGotAFastCar · 19/10/2024 07:20

Oof, I want to say it’d eat it to prevent waste, but… I don’t think j would. I don’t fancy food poisoning and 5 hours 30 minutes is a long time.

WillowTit · 19/10/2024 07:21

was it warm in the kitchen?
i think it shouldnt have gone directly into the fridge anyway and you will possible cook in oven for 50 minutes?

Zampa · 19/10/2024 07:21

purplebeansprouts · 19/10/2024 07:20

Why?

Because it's one thing to risk making yourself ill, but another to make friends and family ill.

FWIW I think the risks are small but there's still potential.

Yes, cooking in the oven.
Hmm. I dunno whether to risk it now by the answers 🙈
I don't know. I might not serve for lunch but just for myself for tea
But even then most of it will waste of not serving to others at lunch. Is it even worth it then, for the risk
Literally so effing annoyed at myself. I worked so hard on that pie! God

Not the point, I know, but another time I’d let the prawns and fish cook in the sauce before adding the mash. They wouldn’t take more than a few minutes to cook through.

goldenshred · 19/10/2024 07:24

No way! You'll be wishing you wasted it when you're sat on the toilet in agony.

Mysa74 · 19/10/2024 07:25

We're the prawns definitely raw? Most easily available ones from supermarkets are pink, cooked and frozen and can be defrosted and eaten without any problems.
I'd cook and eat the pie as normal.

Thanks the only reason I didn't was coz I didn't want the prawns to over cook

Oh well 😭🤬😭🤬

Fair enough. I guess it all depends on the OP and if they can take the risk of getting ill at the moment

WillowTit · 19/10/2024 07:29

so the prawns and other fish would have cooked in the warm sauce

I think OP would know. All the supermarkets round my way sell raw prawns they aren't some rare oddity.

WillowTit · 19/10/2024 07:29

who are you feeding?
are they elderly?

SauvignonBlonk · 19/10/2024 07:29

It’s been 20 odd degrees in our house the past few days, think I’d bin it.
Health before wealth. Not worth the food poisoning.
