To Have This For Lunch? (Safe to Eat - Raw Prawns??!)

Last night I made fish pie in advance.
Cooked the sauce, took off the heat, then stirred in raw prawns and fish.
Topped with mash potatoes.
Left it on the side for the potato to fully cool before I put in the fridge.
Plan was to cook it in the oven today for lunch.
However, I sat down on the sofa and nodded off!
I was asleep for 5hrs 30mins.
Woke up in middle of the night, put pie in the fridge where it has been ever since.
Will it be ok to cook this pie in the oven for lunch today?

If no- can I pick the prawns out, replace with fresh, smooth the potato over, and then pop in oven?!

Argh I'm so annoyed.

I think I would bin it - but then I am massively cautious about these things

HideousKinky · 19/10/2024 07:40

DH on the other hand would eat it

Atishooo · 19/10/2024 08:27

I would cook it and eat it.

Thanks so much for all replies.
At this point I wouldn't even enjoy eating it anyway coz Id be worrying.
I'm gonna sadly admit defeat
Note to self.. do not cook when tired.

I think if you don’t want to fully cook the prawns in the sauce in advance you need to let the sauce and mash cool before putting together. Half cooked is always a risk

Oh this is dreadful - all that fish pie loveliness gone.

OP I feel that even if you had put it in the fridge fairly quickly, without going off to sleep, I don’t think it would be ok to eat - you’ve still partly warmed the fish and prawns and they’d have remained warm for quite a while - maybe an hour if you’d just left it to cool then fridged it? That feels like a bad move with fish / seafood. If you’d mixed them into a cold sauce and assembled, that’d be ok to prepare in advance, but I’m not sure about the overall method of advance prep here anyway, with partly warmed seafood, cooling and then reheating.

It will be fine, surely you would have had to let it cook completely before putting it in the fridge anyway?
