I have just flown from London to Perth with Qantas and I'm very disappointed because the food was rubbish and I couldn't eat it and I'm used to nicer food and a hot wash clothes to wash your hands and face with after you eaten and I thought Qantas was a good quality airline but they're not they seemed to be the lowest of the low and when it came to breakfast you only allowed one drink and I have been with other Airlines where you get a orange juice or something and then they come round and off coffee but do not allowed to have that with Qantas. I also I thought that all the cabin crew would be Australians because Qantas is an Australian airline but going out to Australia they were all English and after this I would never book with Qantas again and the only advantage from me is you fly Direct but for such a poor quality of service I don't think it's worth it just to save a few hours on the flight

We flew with Quanta to Auckland via Singapore and Sydney last year, didn’t have to collect our bags until Auckland.

Well that was years ago. If you're booking emirates to aus for example, Manchester to Dubai to Perth, you'll check in at Manchester and pick your bags up in Australia.

weird post.

The US has different rules. You have to collect and recheck your baggage if transiting. But in a more seamless way than happens normally. You pick up and recheck in basically the same place.

But yep, everywhere else I've every travelled, you don't see your baggage again until you get to the final destination.

Why can so few people spell QANTAS?

Berlinlover · 16/10/2024 13:54

Flute56 · 16/10/2024 12:21

Because it would show that the aussie crew are representing their own countries airline

Don’t ever fly Ryanair, you’ll have a nervous breakdown.

Flute56 · 16/10/2024 12:15

I hope when i fly to adelaide the crew are australian.

Are you going to ask to see their citizenship or birth certificates to confirm they are Aussies? What about Indian-Australians or Chinese Australians- will they pass. There's about a million people born in the UK living in Australia. Are they allowed to work for QANTAS or do they need to born in Australia?

I can spell it, it was correct in my first post but don’t know what happened in my second!

backinthebox · 16/10/2024 14:00

Hmm, I work for a well known British airline, and on my last trip we had 3 Indian crew, 2 Spanish, a Slovenian and a Pakistani Londoner. This is fairly typical - aviation is a very multicultural industry. You’ll be very disappointed if you expect only crew from the country the airline is based in to be working for them these days.

JassyRadlett · 16/10/2024 14:07

Like others have said, you've been given some really crap advice.

Qantas has been on the decline for years. They're fine to fly domestic but if you're flying internationally, I would avoid unless you're flying business and above. And even then other airlines are better.

You don't have to collect your bags every time you change planes. Generally, if you have a through ticket, you only need to collect your bags at the point you're clearing immigration and customs. So if you're transiting through eg Singapore/Dubai/Hong Kong/Taipei wherever, you don't clear immigration and you don't collect your bags.

You can buy whatever airline tickets you like within Australia. Were you trying to get Qantas and VA in a single ticketed booking? I can see how that might be an issue.

I haven't flown Qantas for anything but domestic flights since 2012. We always fly Singapore to Australia now and tbh I prefer to get off the plane and stretch my legs in Singapore than having the really long direct flight to Perth, but we travel to the east coast so would have to take two flights anyway.

JassyRadlett · 16/10/2024 14:08

PS Australians aren't super magical. I promise we're ordinary people, even those who are flight attendants.

Flute56 · 16/10/2024 12:26

Years ago i flew to usa and it wasnt direct. We all had to collect our cases and book them in again

That's a US thing if you have a connecting flight, same as if you come into London and connect onto a flight elsewhere in the UK.....you clear customs and immigration at your point of entry to the country, hence why you have to collect your bags, then your onward flight within the country is a domestic flight (which doesn't have customs & immigration controls for those who only take that flight).

You might also be interested to know that on my flight from London Heathrow to Perth there was not one single ethnic minority no Muslims no Indians no Africans no Caribbeans every single person was a white caucasian I've never ever seen that on any flight I've been on

I'm also booked in to an ibis hotel which is quite downgraded to what I'm used to but the only other hotel that's decent is the Holiday Inn which costs about $200 a night. There is no room safe and the manager said they have never had roo safe. Ive never heard of a hotel room not having a safe. Also the bar closes at 8pm. Also they do provide breakfast bùt only until 9am. All ive not madè very wise decisions

Stop the Clock! Too many white people and none of them Australian! Definitely fly with another airline next time, this is shocking. 🙄 Honestly, I think you are looking for something to complain about.

The OP has got something to complain about now, an ibis hotel, now they are shite.

Flute56 · 16/10/2024 16:17

I wasn't complaining about the number of white people on the flight it was merely an observation

😄

Aviation spelling 101:There’s no U in Qantas

Aviation spelling 102: There’s only one A in Stansted……

Oh as for the Brit Cabin Crew on that Qantas flight..Old age may have muddied the memory but I seem to remember that for a while Qantas actively recruited in the UK for Heathrow based cabin crew…..not sure if that still exists.

changedlife · 16/10/2024 18:32

Seeing as the largest ethnic heritage in Australia is white European with 41% of them as British heritage.. and 9.5% Irish ancestry... I am at a loss to understand your complaint about them not being Australian.. 51% can claim dual nationality !!

sweetpea85 · 16/10/2024 19:15

I flew QF LHR to Perth recently (work - flew on to another remote destination so just booked QF all the way through). Hadn't flown QF for ages but enjoyed the flight. Really like those little fridges full of timtams and fruit and snacks at back of plane (tempting). Food was nice. Except for those filled pastry snacks they bring through. I caught up on Aussie films/tv (midnight oil doco; some First Nations films old and new). No complaints.

Almost certain to be some non-white staff at the Ibis. Hope that doesn’t ruin your stay…

You have to collect your bag when arriving into Oz and transferring to another domestic flight. So, London to Perth, going onto Adelaide. You pick your bag up in Perth because you have to go through quarantine and immigration in Perth.

When returning to the UK your bags are checked through. So Adelaide-Perth-London you don’t need to collect your bag in Perth.

I like Qantas, but am pleased they stopped playing “I still call Australia home” as it made me cry every time I returned to the UK (Aussie, longtime UK resident)

Omg, youve reminded me of when they did that ad after covid restrictions lifted with the Tones & I song, that had me in bits 😭

I love the idea of a roo safe, especially as you’re in Oz. Is it the top of the range Ibis you’re staying in? I would not stay in a Styles, much less a Budget.
