Is your name 'Minnie'' by any chance?

Minnie the Moocher- are you going to ''Kick the gong around'' later on?
Have to agree the weather is shite here, too.

Edited for maddening predictive text.

I think mooch/mooching is a great word. 😁 might even play that song today while I’m mooching around the house.

Weird to me to get so annoyed about innocuous words and phrases.
Especially when so many are regional!!

We should embrace the variety and richness of our language!

DalRiata · 16/10/2024 08:36

I think any phrases that become trendy on social media instantly make people sound unbearably cringey and dim.

VictoriaEra2 · 16/10/2024 08:37

Grab. Grab a coffee. Grab some noodles. Run in and grab some new shoes. Clearly meant to convey how busy we all are.
Similarly, bung! Just bung it in the microwave, oven, cupboard…

Cats are champion moochers. Nearly every cat we see, one of us will comment 'they look like they are having a good mooch' 😃

Definitely agree, but stuff like 'shop the range' aren't regional, they are just annoying.
Likewise 'n' and 'cos'

Cos intolerant.

The one that really has to go is "reaching out" when you mean "talked to" or "contacted".

Unless you are Gladys Knight or one of her pips...

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 16/10/2024 08:45

I see your 'pop of colour' and raise you 'slick on some lippy' A phrase only ever used in tabloid journalism. As is saying someone 'flaunts their pins' to mean they wore shorts or a skirt and 'styled their locks' meaning they had hair.

ClytemnestraWasMisunderstood · 16/10/2024 08:45

Pre-order
You are just bloody ordering something - even if it is out of stock, or before it is released for sale - you are only ordering it!!
Pre-order means to order something before you order it

Matildahoney · 16/10/2024 08:45

I'd like to add
It makes me feel a certain kind of way - what does that even mean?!?!
Sentences littered with like! Friends daughter says like every other word, and literally!!

Cats are superb moochers.

If any animal was bred to mooch- it's a cat.

Edit..Parents had a Burmese called ''Smooch''.

Stillafatknacker · 16/10/2024 08:47

Don't walk to Aldi....run!!

Just fuck off 😒

Yes.

Plus, most know exactly what they mean and they are often synonymous but because it isn’t what they’re used to, it’s seemingly wrong.

It’s being annoyed about someone using the word “solid” over “rigid”.

Moonflower6 · 16/10/2024 08:54

This.
I don't know where people on here get off, telling others what terms, expressions or phrases they can and can't say.
Fuck off...I'll say what I like and so will my hubby.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 16/10/2024 08:57

"At this difficult time" is my current hate, although it's not a Mumsnet one. If a tragedy had befallen you, an off the shelf and unthinking phrase like that would send you over the edge.

mymycherrypie · 16/10/2024 08:57

‘I am wanting’

always sounds to me like something a vampire would say. And it’s double the syllables of “I want”.

RelationshipOrNot · 16/10/2024 08:59

Going gym and going uni are the ones I hate.

Isometimeswonder · 16/10/2024 09:00

I want to hit something when I see replies that just say "this".
I know what it means. It just annoys me.

I'm laughing out loud at that...Brilliant

I want people to stop changing where the word “forever” comes in a sentance

”I’ll forever miss him”
”I’ll be forever grateful”

didn’t forever used to come at the end?

Also “excited for..” that can get in the bin. It’s giving 2022 vibes.
