To be irritated by the way M&S display their jumpers

I'm currently stocking up on winter wear so have been buying jumpers.

Looking at M&S online for cardigans this morning and came away majorly irked by their models.

All I want to see is what I'm trying to buy. I just want the model to put the cardigan on, stand up reasonably straight and be photographed from various angles.

If you tuck one half of the cardigan into your trousers it makes it ruck up so I can't see how long it is, nor how it hangs.

Same with the sleeves, if you pull them over your hands or pull them up your arms I can't see how long they are.

Don't slouch in a chair or on the floor.

Don't pull the top of the garment up around your ears, maybe you're aiming at quirky, but I'm trying to see what it looks like being worn normally. I'm not going be wearing it yanked up around my ears.

And don't hug a bloody great bag to your chest because then all I can see is the bloody great bag.

Just needed to get that off my chest.

They normally have a range of photos?

HamHand · 15/10/2024 14:57

If this pisses you off, never venture over to the Zara website. It’ll be lethal

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 15/10/2024 14:59

M&S tend to provide photos at the most useful end of the scale imo. As pp said, steer well clear of Zara...

StellaZine · 15/10/2024 14:59

They do this deliberately because the clothes are so badly manufactured.

I'm with you OP. It's not just M&S either. I was having a moan about this exact issue to my friend the other week.

This made me chuckle. So true! Don't get me started on Zaras website, have never bought a thing as it's always modelled so strangely!

MiddleAgedDread · 15/10/2024 15:02

oh, and don't display them in the shop all folded up, I lost my shit in Uniqlo with that one!

Bluevelvetsofa · 15/10/2024 15:02

So many websites do this, not just M&S. I want to see a dress full length, not the model crouching, so that only bits are visible. I want to see the length, the neckline and the waist. Yes, you can scroll through other poses, but the first one should be the default surely.

M&S are a major culprit, I agree, but Roman, Next and others need to sort themselves out.

PsychoHotSauce · 15/10/2024 15:02

My DM worked in M&S management in the 80s. Every single time she buys from there now she laments at the deteriorating quality of their clothes. Two sides of the cardigan not matching up etc. I think the wanky poses by the models are designed to obscure the poor quality at times!

StellaZine · 15/10/2024 15:02

I do all my shopping online and I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I nearly always get the right size and rarely return. One thing I’ve learned is, if the model is contorted in every photo and you can’t get a good view of the product, don’t buy it.

Laserwho · 15/10/2024 15:03

Just had a look, your right. It's the prices that annoy me, I could feed myself and 2 teenagers for over a week at some of those prices.

pigsDOfly · 15/10/2024 15:04

Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

I'll make sure I steer clear of Zara.

I did manage to find a couple that I could get a vague idea of and I ended up ordering but I won't really know what they look like until I get them.

Yep, a lot of websites do this and it's so frustrating.

I've been browsing for some jumpers. Trying to find some that are slightly longer than standard but not long line specifically. The amount of pictures I've seen where they're tucked in, or the persons sitting and I can't see the length properly. It's really annoying.

I've had to resort to measuring myself and trying to find the exact length in the description but it's time consuming.

pigsDOfly · 15/10/2024 15:09

Agree that quality is dire now.

In the summer I order a few dresses from John Lewis. They weren't cheap even though they were in a sale. One of the dresses was made in a really nasty cheap nylon type material and the hem was completely uneven.

Obviously, didn't buy that.

m00rfarm · 15/10/2024 15:10

Pinning them behind the back of the model so you cannot see what shape it is really annoys me as well

KimberleyClark · 15/10/2024 15:17

I was looking at coats yesterday and yes,all the photos seemed to have been taken from odd angles.

MrsClatterbuck · 15/10/2024 15:21

Regarding this tucking one half into your trousers. Believe it's called a French tuck and I personally thinks it looks stupid like you have tucked it all in and one bit has escaped. Bit like a school child with their shirt half in and half out. I see this on QVC a lot. OK rant over.

Urgh all those rake thin women and soul less eyes staring at you like zombies.

jacksonlambsregulardisorder · 15/10/2024 15:36

Weirdly this is where buying from Vinted holds up pretty well. Most pictures are of the item itself and occasionally on the seller giving a much better idea of fit, length etc.

Now I'm going to have to look at Zara, just to see the zombie eyed women😂

I also vote Vinted 😂

The slouching/weird positions is just unreal. That's even before the problematically unrepresentative body shapes.

See, that's exactly what I want. Just some straightforward photos of what's on offer.

I find the majority of M&S jumpers are cut just too short for me, I’m average height. Plus they are so expensive for usually man made fibres.

toddlepod · 15/10/2024 16:31

my gripe is that clothes on display aren’t pressed/ironed/steamed… h and m racks full off nastily creased clothes
