CF parked on my driveway!

SEMPA1234567 · 15/10/2024 14:05

CF has now been parked on my driveway for at least 3 hours! Husband home soon and won’t be able to park!

My question is what can you actually practically do about this, apart from giving them an earful if you spot them returning to their car!! 😂

A quick google says

  1. the police won’t do anything (they might if it’s stoping you getting off your drive but not if they’re preventing you accessing your drive)
  2. My areas police website says try contacting the council . The councils website clearly states they will not remove vehicles or issue parking charge notices for private drives

Also you are not allowed to block them in as this is an offence to stop them leaving and obviously you can not damage their car as this would be criminal damage.

Assuming you don’t want to break the law 😂 what are you meant to legally do if someone parks on your drive??

Has anyone successfully got any type of justice against a CF?!? Or can I now just go around being a CF never paying for parking and just using other peoples drives?!?

How frustrating. I'm assuming they didn't realize it was your parking space.

I've occasionally used a "Park on my drive" app when visiting popular places and am always paranoid I'm going to park on the wrong drive by mistake. It might be something like that?

But I woukd definitely block them in and wait for them to knock.

I just had a look at one of these and I'm just one click away from registering some poor sod's drive onto one of these apps.

Didn't realise it was so easy.

LookItsMeAgain · 15/10/2024 15:05

Get your DH to park on your driveway. They, the CF'ers are the ones who shouldn't be there so let your DH park on his driveway. Greet him with a glass of whiskey or some such alcoholic beverage. Then when the owners of the car that parked on your drive show up and ask for their car out, say that you can't drive and your DH has had a drink (or two) and he can't drive tonight so they'll have to come back for the car in the morning.

They won't do it again!

stanleypops66 · 15/10/2024 15:05

The diagram makes it look like it's a lay-by at the front of your house. If they're private parking bays does it say that clearly?

My answer to this was always "Block them in", until I blocked them in and a hugely aggressive woman pushed past me into my house and refused to leave, and refused to believe that the car keys weren't on me (they weren't). It went on for over an hour. I'd still say block them in, but be prepared for the CF to be Twatty McTwatterson.

You need a chain on your door.

TouchOfSilverShampoo · 15/10/2024 15:07

10/10 for the diagram. Excellent work. Can you ask your neighbours to park bumper to bumper to the offending CF.

ARichtGoodDram · 15/10/2024 15:07

One of my neighbours posted a "OmG this car has been abandoned on my drive - I really hope whoever has had the emergency is ok" type post on our local Facebook group when someone parked on her drive.

It took 6 messages for the owner to be identified and a further 3 for his mum to be tagged. He got a public bollocking from his mum and had never, as far as I know, parked on anyone's drive again 😂

Would only work somewhere with a small neighbourhood / really good gossip/nosy network

Block them in and refuse to move until they pay you a fee

This is a brilliant idea. Knock up some fake car park signs with the corresponding effing ridiculous hourly charges😀
(might be more convincing if you get DH to stand out there in a beanie and hi-viz, looking a bit bored)

CautiousLurker · 15/10/2024 15:09

Get your husband to block the exit to the drive when he gets home, both of you go out for the night (and leave a note saying that you will move your car for a fee!).

Only joking. I think….

SEMPA1234567 · 15/10/2024 15:09

I’d say it’s pretty clear they’re out spaces, we’ve lived here 6 years and no one else has ever parked there (well not that I’ve seen! 😂)

They’re paved with pebbles/stones, surrounded with a paved boarder and a hedge that goes all the way around the space (green bit on diagram! 😂).

The stones on the floor a very obviously decorative and something put in by the owner of the house, nothing like what you’d get on a public road.

Go for a walk with a plastic bag. Collect as many dog shits within a 15 minute walk as you can find.

Return home and deposit shits all over offending car windscreen & door handles. Extra point for smearing into air vents.

Everyone wins. You get to make a point without any proof it was you. The neighbourhood gets a load of dogshit removed and the car owner learns not to dump his car on someones drive.

😂

curlycurlymoo · 15/10/2024 15:09

Mumsnet rules, you must block them in

yeaitsmeagain · 15/10/2024 15:09

SEMPA1234567 · 15/10/2024 15:04

I’ve put note on window, cones either end of car (just to cause them a bit bother when they do want to move! 😂)

I'm loving all the ideas!! Very funny! I’m just genuinely perplexed as what (without breaking the law!) you’re meant to do! If the police and council won’t do anything I don’t see why I ever need to pay for a parking space again! I’ll just use other people’s drives! 😂

Have you got a printer, you could write a fake letter using AI to tell them they're in serious trouble and need to pay a fee and stick it under their wiper.

Unfortunately, if blocking the CF in means parking across a dropped kerb, and a traffic warden or policeman spots you, you could end up with a parking ticket and fine even if it is outside your own home.

Crazy, I know.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 15/10/2024 15:11

Is it a driveway or just a space outside your house?

Your diagram doesn't make it look like they've done anything wrong

gamerchick · 15/10/2024 15:12

You are allowed to block them in if it's your own drive. I had the same problem once with people thinking our drives were part of the public ones. Really funny watching them wiggle out without knocking.

DogInATent · 15/10/2024 15:13

Wrap it in clingfilm?

Raid the recycling for some tin cans, tie to the rear bumper/tow point and put a "Just Divorced" sign on the back?

Get the chalk pens out and write "Honk - It's My Birthday" on the back?

Showbel · 15/10/2024 15:14

Seeline · 15/10/2024 14:08

I'd park across the end of my drive. It's not blocking them in if you leave a note on the windscreen letting them know where you are. They can come and knock when they want to leave.

This. I wouldn't even put the note on though. Just leave it and wait for them to come knocking!

Thisismetooaswell · 15/10/2024 15:22

Is it possible that they have booked a space on Just Park and have got the wrong house?

AnnaL94 · 15/10/2024 15:24

SEMPA1234567 · 15/10/2024 15:00

For everyone saying block them in, unfortunately I can’t! Without stoping the neighbours getting into their spaces or blocking the road! Hope digram helps!!

Exquisite diagram OP!

If only all MNers could do them this clearly.

Mate what magical fairytale land do you live in where parking spot thieving dickheads don't exist? This kind of shit happens all the time especially if you live by a school or near a popular event location. Of all the threads trending right now this one is easily the most believable.

guestusername · 15/10/2024 15:30

Are your neighbours home? They could park really close either end of the car

Failing that, a “honk if you wanna see <insert obscenity>” or “I’m a twat who will park where the fuck I like” sign on the boot, away from the window 🤣

You have my sympathy. I’ve got someone parked across my drive, complete with dropped kerb and single yellow lines, as I type 😡

murasaki · 15/10/2024 15:32

Is it illegal to accidentally drop drawing pins in your own driveway?

<whistles innocently>
