CF parked on my driveway!

SEMPA1234567 · 15/10/2024 14:05

CF has now been parked on my driveway for at least 3 hours! Husband home soon and won’t be able to park!

My question is what can you actually practically do about this, apart from giving them an earful if you spot them returning to their car!! 😂

A quick google says

  1. the police won’t do anything (they might if it’s stoping you getting off your drive but not if they’re preventing you accessing your drive)
  2. My areas police website says try contacting the council . The councils website clearly states they will not remove vehicles or issue parking charge notices for private drives

Also you are not allowed to block them in as this is an offence to stop them leaving and obviously you can not damage their car as this would be criminal damage.

Assuming you don’t want to break the law 😂 what are you meant to legally do if someone parks on your drive??

Has anyone successfully got any type of justice against a CF?!? Or can I now just go around being a CF never paying for parking and just using other peoples drives?!?

I would block them in until they explain themselves.

I do wonder if, as someone else has said, they have used in a park in my drive app and possible been conned or parked in the wrong one by accident.

Love this idea!!

Of course you block them in! Make them come and knock on your door to move then give them a massive earful. Also second vaseline all over their door handles and on their windscreen. Fucking cheek!

Beautiful3 · 15/10/2024 14:29

I'd block them in and they can come to the door. I'd politely ask them not to park on my drive again. They won't enjoy knocking on your door!

DoodlesMam · 15/10/2024 14:30

this is just rude! please update....

TwistedWonder · 15/10/2024 14:30

I’m definitely in the block them in and have a drink camp

Gillbil · 15/10/2024 14:30

Oooh! Either put yourself on driveway parking spaces app.
Or just put a sign out/ in your window saying £20 to park all day.
🫰
Make em pay!

You can also put some stones in front of all their wheels so they can't just roll off with out paying their bill!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 15/10/2024 14:31

My answer to this was always "Block them in", until I blocked them in and a hugely aggressive woman pushed past me into my house and refused to leave, and refused to believe that the car keys weren't on me (they weren't). It went on for over an hour. I'd still say block them in, but be prepared for the CF to be Twatty McTwatterson.

I’d have called the police if a stranger barged into my house. She was in the wrong, she should wait outside until she can have her car back.

Nope. Cost me £50 through my local garage. They came and picked it up.

The owner of the car picked up all the other fees (storage fees at the garage lot and release fees).

Might cost more with other garages though and legally you do have to wait a few days before you can do it.

You can also get it done for free if you go through the local constabulary. You need them to declare the vehicle as abandoned and they'll come and take it away for you. Might take them a while though which was why I organised it myself. I needed my driveway, I have disabled people living here.

Yeah does sound like your local garage was being nice there. I can't imagine most garages agreeing to keep a random vehicle on site.

I did. The police noted my concerns but didn't turn up until 5 hours later.

Threewheeler1 · 15/10/2024 14:34

😮the cheek!
Yes to all of the above...
I'm just going to 🍿👀

JeremiahBullfrog · 15/10/2024 14:35

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's only illegal to block access to / egress from a drive if the obstacle is on public land? On your own land, you can place any obstacle you like.

Wow that’s quite scary to be honest. Hope you passed her reg plate on at least.

@TheWayTheLightFalls How did it end?! That is unbelievable!

NH84 · 15/10/2024 14:38

Love the Vaseline or lipstick idea. Maybe check on JustPark rents out their driveway, and they could have parked at yours by mistake. If you can figure out who you might be able to get contact details for them. Long shot though

forgotmypassagain · 15/10/2024 14:39

Just here for the outcome 🍿

BaconMassive · 15/10/2024 14:39

Needs a diagram.

Jinglesomeoftheway · 15/10/2024 14:39

Block them in and go for a nice looooonnngggg walk, or put some headphones in and have a bath. Definitely not illegal if it's "accidental"

LoveWine123 · 15/10/2024 14:40

Block them in and refuse to move until they pay you a fee

Basically the woman and her lairy friend had been attending a funeral at a church nearby. When the police proved useless I rang the vicar who came out to placate her, and one of his staff maneuvered her car along the pavement and out of my life.

Mumsnet rules are as follows

  1. You MUST update
  2. You must block them in
  3. You must run and hide when they knock for you to let them out

This has my vote!! Please update us OP.

WonderingAboutBabies · 15/10/2024 14:43

Hmm looks like a good day to clean your gutters and mow the front lawn. Shame if any mud or debris ended on on your seemingly empty driveway..

ThatsNotMyTeen · 15/10/2024 14:44

Block them in and at least force them to have to come to your door

She was entirely and completely unapologetic. Adamant that’s she’d already apologised to me (she hadn’t) and that there were racial overtones to my asking her to apologise in any event (there weren’t). It was quite something.

Basically - twats gonna twat.

CheekySwan · 15/10/2024 14:45

Hope its a genuine mistake! You sure DH hasn't said someone from work or something could park on the drive or something. Or maybe its a present 😂, is it at least a decent car?
