About a talking skeleton?

A house which is sort of a few doors down/across from me has put up Halloween decorations including a fucking noisy skeleton

I've taken parcels over before and they don't answer the door - how can I phrase a note nicely to take the thing down or switch it off?
It was going off all last night at 2, 3, 4am where it says a phrase and then does some creepy cackling laugh

I don't mind it through the day but I wondered WTF it was last night and went out at 2am to see

You have my sympathies OP. My next but one neighbour has one of these and it’s LOUD. Thankfully they only have it on for a couple of hours on the 31st but it’s very sensitive and goes off a lot in that period. Neighbours didn’t realise how loud it was the first year they had it so it’s possible yours don’t either. I think a polite note saying you love the display but could they turn the sound off over night is perfectly reasonable.

Edited to add that I’m intrigued about last year’s escaping inflatable Santa ….

Give me some time under cover of darkness and you can have this one
There's also a matching scarecrow with a pumpkin head but it doesn't talk. I don't think...

You are hilarious and really brightening my day, thanks!

Edited

They had a giant (probably about 7ft) inflatable Santa with a matching inflatable pile of gifts
It was really windy, wasn't tied down and blew into the road behind
I was WFH and able to see the chaos of people trying to wrestle this Santa out the road while being blown about by the wind while the neighbours were at work, oblivious

Final update for today as I was hoping cross neighbour would sort it TBH

Cross neighbour was having a hushed discussion with another neighbour with lots of gesturing at the display

I had to actually do some work and tear myself away from hovering around the window dusting things spying

There is now no lit up pumpkin head but the bastard skeleton is still manically laughing. If he vanishes by the morning, it's cross neighbours fault not mine

A TALKING SKELETON YOU SAY

It laughs robotically and manically
Says HAPPY HALLOWEEN
And something else I can't catch as if I get close enough, I'm cutting the wire

I’m surprised they leave it going at night, especially as it could easily be accidentally smashed to pieces with a baseball bat.

JC03745 · 14/10/2024 21:43

I'd take recording, and after Halloween, plant a mini microphone outside their window. Set it on a time so you can blast the thing on at 1, 2, 3am for the CF's to enjoy 😆

Some kids on bikes were poking at it earlier, I decided not to tell them to stop it BlushGrin

Last years display was silent but terrifying. I went to work, then came home, parked up in the dark and came face to face with a mannequin in a scream mask that was not there when I left for work

The stupid thing is, it's outside their own bloody window. Maybe they wear ear plugs? If it was a metre from my bedroom window I would have dismantled it and shoved it in the bin by now

Can’t you just go and switch it off?

skeleton24 · 14/10/2024 21:51

No, they run the wires in via their kitchen window (they did it last year for a bubbling cauldron and for the inflatable Santa)
I haven't found a switch on it, seems to just be a plug in/out

Are they deaf? Edited as saw update, but also now invested in what happens- good luck OP

skeleton24 · 14/10/2024 21:54

No switch found earlier
I've closed the vents on the windows which has dulled the sound enough for it to wait until tomorrow morning

It's freezing and I'm wearing Halloween pjs which might seem slightly ironic if I'm going to complain about a skeleton

God this thread has really made me laugh (maniacally) sorry OP... Grin Had a right chuckle at the rogue Santa causing a roadblock!

Weverunoutofteabags · 14/10/2024 22:21

Go and unplug it

BertieBotts · 14/10/2024 22:59

Please nobody tell my 3yo the location of this house. He will fall in love with the bloody thing and we will have to adopt it.

Does he break things easily? Because he's welcome.... you can let him loose on it

No, he is actually quite careful and sweet which is the problem XD he makes friends with the most alarming of wildlife. I swear he almost got close enough to hug a goose once, and we have a little pond nearby which has crayfish and he is forever chatting to them and holding entire conversations which he seems to think they respond to.

Damn
I mean he's still welcome, the cat is about the size of a toddler and very much enjoys cuddles
You can take the skeleton home with you. Win win

A pair of scissors to the cable will sort it.

I haven't heard it today but they've installed some lit up blow up thing
It's got its back to me so I can't see what it is without going out but hopefully it's silent Grin
