For context: I'm 36, mum of three (youngest is 2.5), work four days a week.

Im also someone who needs a lot of sleep.

So... introductions over. I'm in bed for 8/8.30 and asleep 8.30-9 every night. I then get up at 5.30/6 with my toddler.

Aibu to ask your age and when you go to sleep?

I don't sleep when I get into bed at 9. It takes about two hours to wind down. Getting into bed later means I just sleep later. Yes, I exercise and work but I have a lot on my plate.

Tisfortired · 14/10/2024 08:46

33, bed anytime between 10:30 and midnight. Depends if me and DH are watching something worth staying up for.

I’m usually up between 6:30-7 with the kids.

Crazycatlady79 · 14/10/2024 08:52

45, with 2 x 6 year olds.
Normally asleep by 1 or 2. My first alarm goes off at 6am.
I wish I could sleep more, but always struggled with Insomnia.

Fleximama · 14/10/2024 08:52

No wonder I am tired! I can't believe how early people are going to bed.
i usually turn the light off around 11.30pm and most mornings wake up when my daughter gets up for work at 5.45am (although my own alarm doesn't go off til 7am so I tend to stay in bed until then).

Samesame47 · 14/10/2024 09:00

47 and usually by 9pm, I like to take a decaf tea to bed and read for half hour.
We had friends over Friday and didn’t get to bed til 2am so Saturday I was in bed for 7.30, I love my bed!

mumtoadhdasdboy · 14/10/2024 09:04

53 - in bed by 10pm up at 5.45am. I listen to a sleep meditation to get me off to sleep quickly. I am trying to align my circadian rhythm which means getting up at the same time regardless of what time I go to sleep - and getting outside as early as possible to get some natural light.

spiritgoat · 14/10/2024 09:12

30 with 4 under 8
I go to bed around 11:30pm and sleep around 1/2am because I read for a couple of hours. I wake at 7 during the week and wake naturally around 8:30 on weekends.

I only sleep that late because I suffer with insomnia on and off, so I don't even attempt to sleep early, because if I'm lay awake for longer than an hour I get anxious that I'll never sleep, and that anxiety then keeps me awake all night. So I go to bed when I'm tired, and go to sleep when I feel sleepy.

AnonyMouse80 · 14/10/2024 09:31

I’m 44. Have a toddler. In bed 9-9:30, asleep 9:30-10:30. Wake 6-6:30, exhausted when I wake every day.

doitwithlove · 14/10/2024 10:18

58 in bed by 9.30-10pm

Alarm 6.45am if working. No alarm if not working, awake by 8.15am

RampantIvy · 14/10/2024 08:02

Do you get interrupted sleep at night and get up very early?

I get up early, interrupted not so often...

ObliviousCoalmine · 14/10/2024 11:05

Mid-late thirties and anywhere between 8.30 and 1am. Alarm at 6.40am.

ItGhoul · 14/10/2024 11:08

I'm 48. Usually go to bed between midnight and 1am and it then takes me about an hour to fall asleep. I get up between 8am and 9am. No kids.

I’m astounded that so many people go to bed before 9pm! Even 10pm seems very early to me. Do you not watch tv? I’ve always thought of 9pm as the start of the main programmes. I know nowadays most programmes can be watched at any time, but it still feels like 9pm onwards is prime viewing time!

38, bed around midnight, up at 7:30am on weekdays, 8:30/9am on weekends. 3 children, eldest is 5, youngest is 5 months.

Agreed. There are adults going to bed before I've even had dinner. If people are going to bed at 9pm, at what point are they actually doing any normal, grown-up stuff?!

Rachie1973 · 14/10/2024 11:18

51, with a 4 and 5 year old.

bed by midnight, asleep by 1. Up for a wee at 3ish, then up with 4 year old at 6.

I’ve never needed a lot of sleep.

Member984815 · 14/10/2024 11:18

Early 40s anywhere between 9 and 10.30

BeautyPageantDropout · 14/10/2024 11:19

47

I go to bed at midnight, or more likely 1am. Get up at 7am.

Blueskies3 · 14/10/2024 11:21

39 and try to go to sleep at 9:30pm and wake up every day at 6, sometimes on the weekends I will sleep until 7am.

MrsLBrown · 14/10/2024 11:23

If you're youngish and going to bed at a time when a lot of people are still getting home from a long commute (8pm) or having dinner, you might want to see your dr.

Needing 11 hours sleep is not good for anyone (unless recovering from an illness.)

You might need testing for diabetes or anaemia if you need to sleep from 8.30pm.

The only people I know of who admit to going to bed by 8-9pm are radio presenters who have to be in the studio for 5am and on air by 6am.

Blueskies3 · 14/10/2024 11:31

I am someone that needs a lot of sleep. I have always wished that I could function on less. I am ND though, so that may play a part. I am much more regulated with lots of sleep.
I think this post shows how diverse our sleep needs are. Some only need a little and some need a lot.

Shhhthedogssleeping · 14/10/2024 11:32

64 retired. Lifelong health condition that makes me really tired. Bed between 9 - 11 pm. Get to sleep usually around 1 am. Up in night anywhere between 1 and 4 hours. Wake absolutely exhausted even after a good sleep anywhere between 7 and 11 am. Very frustrating and it really pisses me off. No matter how much sleep I get, I’m always shattered.

MouseofCommons · 14/10/2024 11:33

it grown up stuff is happening in the day. Work, gym, housework, life admin etc. I'm not going to keep on with it at 9pm.

Alina3 · 14/10/2024 11:38

36yr. 8pm.

StopStartStop · 14/10/2024 11:46

66... whenever I like. Really. If I feel tired in the morning or afternoon, I go to bed. 'Bedtime' could be any time from 5pm to 11pm. I have sleep issues and the current 'treatment' is 'get all the sleep you can, the times will correct themselves eventually'. It's a slow process but seems to be working.

Tdcp · 14/10/2024 11:48

I'm 38 with a 10 year old and pregnant. I go to bed about 10:30 - 11:30 and I'm up at 7 am for work.

MrsLBrown · 14/10/2024 11:49

Alina3 · 14/10/2024 11:38

36yr. 8pm.

But that means you have no evening.

Are you working shifts where you need to get up very early?

If I went to bed at 8, I'd sleep for 7 hours and be awake at 3am. (And not go back to sleep.)
