Blackpool pleasure beach

I just visited Blackpool and I Had a nice time going around the beach and activities.

But honestly- Blackpool pleasure beach - what are they thinking! Some of the rides are so old and dangerous, I don't know how they are allowed at all.

It was the first time that I went .

I went on one ride, and it went extremely high. It was like an old fashioned rollrr coaster, but you were sitting on a horse. It's called steeple chase.

. There was the tiniest old fashioned seat belt on the horse, like a car seat belt. Except it was just a horizontal belt. The material of the belt looked old, worn and thin. And it didn't hold you on properly.

You had to grip with your hands onto the handle bars. This ride went extremely high and it was extremely fast and jerky, and i was nearly jerked out of the seat several times. If the ride jerked and you fell out of the seat , you would slip through the seat belt and you would fall a very long way down. I was holding on for dear life. I very nearly came off and fell once.

People were getting off the ride at the end and were crying and looking extremely stressed.

The guy running the ride laughed and said to us "you won't do that ride again in a hurry will you haha". Because he knew it was bad

I saw other rides in the park, where the metal holding the ride up looked completely rusted through.

I don't know how the park is allowed from a health and safety standpoint?

😃😃 my son and I went on that steeple chase and we were hanging on for dear life!! I have been riding horses since I was 4 and my son is a professional polo player!! We nearly came off several times 😂we are going back there next weekend

It's terrifying isn't it!

I'm still shook days later.

I went on the other water ride valhalla at blackpool pleasure beach. And it was fine.

It has flames and fire.
I got totally drenched with water and i got dropped in the pitch black

  • it didn't scare me at all.

That old rickety steeplechase ride on one horse, really scared me! It's the bad safety design on the old rides that is frightening

A ride that has been going for nearly 50 years with no reported incidents would suggest a pretty safe ride. You’re suggesting to close it down cause you were a bit scared.

Roundthemoon · 12/10/2024 22:35

ThisHangryPinkBalonz · 12/10/2024 22:20

Looked and felt like a normal seat belt to me. It didn't used to have one- it was an extra safety measure.

Jesus it didn't use to have a seatbelt at all!.how was that allowed.

Have you been on it?

Have you seen all the other posters on here who had bad experiences on it too?

If a couple of people reported safety concerns about any rides , and i worked at the theme park, I would look into it .

Of course its high.

If you fell from it you definitely would be severely injured.

It's at ground level for about 90% of the ride and barely 5m at its highest. I've ridden it countless times, you have a seat belt and, y'know, arms to hold on with. It's perfectly safe.

It's not at ground level for 90 per cent of the ride. Videos on YouTube show that.

So the poster on here who said her daughter nearly fell off the ride, is what...making it up?

i went on it once thinking it would be just a pleasant ride around a track. Fucking hell my knuckles were white from hanging on for dear life 🤣

outforawalkbiatch · 12/10/2024 22:43

The mouse ride I went on with my dad and I was only a child
He thought it was hilarious, I did not. The corners were harsh!
He has a fucked back, I've had spinal surgery. Blaming that ride Grin

Oh, do get a grip
The Pleasure Beach has an excellent safety record. You are vastly overstating the 'height' of the steeplechase horse ride. It is an old, non-exciting ride.
There is the racing rollercoaster which is wooden, and yes, rattling and bone-shaking, but great fun. There was the mouse ride, again, rattly and not all bells and whistles, but exciting

Why not research their safety record vs those of other places such as alton towers, etc

Magnastorm · 12/10/2024 22:44

Ultimately nobody is being forced on to any ride and nobody, ever, has come off steeplechase. It's safe.

You don't have to like it, but frankly I've been on scarier railway bridges. Let the rest of us have our fun.

HundredMilesAnHour · 12/10/2024 21:35

Is that the one that used to be called The Grand National - (The Steeple Chase?)

No, Grand National is the two rollercoasters that 'race' each other. Steeple Chase is a row of 4 (?) fake horses (like big carousel horses) that you sit on and they 'race' each other.

I love both! I always thought the Steeple Chase was pretty tame. Certainly never seen anyone crying on or off it!

The voice of reason and sanity. Thank you

Roundthemoon · 12/10/2024 21:36

It's really bad!

It's the worst ride I've ever been on, health and safety wise.

I remember thinking - I can't believe this is allowed!

Did the pear-clutching affect your ability to hold on?

Roundthemoon · 12/10/2024 22:47

PleaseAskSomeoneWhoGivesAFuck · 12/10/2024 22:46

Did the pear-clutching affect your ability to hold on?

No but when I saw a child crying at the end, and I saw a woman complaining that her legs had been badly bruised when she was thrown violently, it angered me.

Its not good enough in this day and age, that people are being hurt like that.

It's not so much that it's a scary rollercoaster.

It's the seatbelt. It doesn't hold you in properly.

And when you go up very high, you need a proper seatbelt.

It does not 'go very high'.
Unless you are a v small person, in which case, you wouldn't meet the height requirements

Does it matter if nobody has come off steeplechase, if people are bruised and hurt coming off it.

I've been to a lot of theme parks.

I've honestly never seen such bad health and safety anywhere

It was like a wooden roller coaster that went quite quick with ridiculously tight corners to try and mimic a mouse running from a cat!

No, thecwooden roller coaster was the grand national
And the ride was not called the cat and mouse, just the mouse. The cars you sat in were painted to look like mice

Some people have a bad memory. It's a steeplechase rollercoaster. Of course it goes high.

Look at the video on YouTube. In the second part of the video, steeplechase is very high.

If you fell from that height you would break bones.

I don't know how steeple chase passes through any safety checks.

All of the other rides there had modern safety harnesses.

Steeplechase has a thin material belt that does nothing!

Yes, yes, you've made your point

And yet the ride remains open with countless people still riding it and enjoying it. Strange that. Almost as if people have the ability to chose whether to go on it or not, and whether to massively overreact at slight bumps on what is a really tame ride.

The Wild Mouse at Blackpool was dismantled 6-7 years ago.

Much longer ago than that!

Enjoying it?

You have selective blindness..

Do you not see all the posters on this thread who said they found it terrifying, got bruised, and nearly fell off?

I love Pleasure Beach it’s my favourite UK theme park- and I am not a fan of roller coasters as I hate the feeling of going down a big drop or upside down, so you would never get me on the big dipper, pepsi max or revolution type coasters. Love the steeplechase, it’s a fast fun ride without the big dips (just a couple of small ones), and I first went on it at the age of 9 almost forty years ago, and it’s still a favourite. For some reason I have a strong dislike of Alton Towers, there is something about Alton Towers that makes me feel depressed like a black cloud hanging over the place. I’ve visited twice and on both occasions had the same oppressive feeling as soon as I enter the park.
