Abusive cleaner took pics of my home

My lovely self employed cleaner went back to her own country. New cleaner started this week. House is tidy but dirty floor and surfaces, needs a good vacuum/mop/wiping up. We hire 4 hours a week for a deep clean of the downstairs(kitchen dining living room)/hallway and stairs. Standard 3 bed house in London with kitchen extension, takes me 2 hours to do but pay for 4 so the job gets done properly.

New cleaner came and in 4 hours couldn't clean what we asked which is just vacuum/mop and wipe down all surfaces. Had to ask her to clean individual window seals as she didn't and when she left I noticed the living room window seal wasnt cleaned. She broke my glass chopping board and didn't say anything and left chemicals in the oven which I told her not to clean. Last cleaner was able to wipe the skirting boards and didn't leave a spec of dirt in corners, this cleaner left many areas dirty.

I said nothing and thought I won't hire again. The company messaged me why I don't want to hire again and I said I wasn't happy with the clean nothing else.

I then get very abusive messages and pictures of my floor being dirty saying my house is disgusting. Didn't get to respond before I was blocked by the company.

AIBU? I feel completely violated and want to complain some how. She took photos of my home without permission.

Don't even know what to do now and feel uncomfortable using another cleaner. Husband says I'm over reacting :( am I?

FYI I've added a photo of my home before the cleaner came. Floors are clearly dirty but the kitchen is tidy/needs wipe down.

It is not a weekly cleaners responsibility to remove years of mould and grime from a window seal, if you wanted that you should have ordered an end-of-tenancy or deep clean. I also find it really hypocritical that you say you felt violated that she took photos of your home but then share them publicly to Mumsnet.

Also leaving an entire box of cereal dumped on the floor for the cleaner is taking the piss and asking for a rodent problem. I'm with the cleaner, leaving food all over the house like that is rancid. How are you an adult and don't know how to clean up after yourself? This rant is insufferable and smacks of overprivilege.

BonniesSlave · 13/10/2024 18:29

Jesus her floors arent that bad youre all being utterly ridiculous. Its the day the cleaner is coming, why would they clean up? OP honestly this is OTT Mumsnet bs, my floors would be like that before the cleaner arrived and she never batted an eyelid, she knew she was being paid to put it right. To the poster who said her student house was cleaner than OPs clearly you didnt have much of a life at uni 😂😂😂

So the Op cherry picked the worst of the photos the cleaner took? unlikely

and i’m guessing a downstairs bathroom given decent sized kitchen 🤷 who knows though and you’re right, the downstairs could not include a toilet

@ChicExpert posted "Bathroom is clean, as I said the cleaner is only hired to vacuum/mop/wipe surfaces in the kitchen/dining room/living room/hallway. Essentially our downstairs only, no rooms or bathrooms. I'm heavily pregnant and can't crack vacuuming and mopping hence hiring a cleaner."

What about this post do you not understand? Anything I can do to help?

So what’s going on in the bathrooms if cleaner only for downstairs and no one else in the house gives a shit and the Op can’t clean because she is pregnant?

Very messy floor lol please don't judge 😬. It's a female company owner that has many cleaners under her that she sends out. It wasn't the cleaner messaging me but the female company owner.

I'd be a bit embarrassed presenting that floor to anybody, even the cleaner. Ever heard of a long dust pan and brush or do you just allow the floor to be decimated until someone you pay cleans it's up. What if you had visitors? What do other intergenerational members of the family do for the upkeep of your home? very little it seems.

Notwhatuwanttohear · 13/10/2024 18:36

Wow that floor is disgusting how on earth do you live like that?

Are you shameless?

I know they are cleaners and it's their job but I would be embarrassed for someone to come into my home and think I live in that squalor.

Disgusting.

ruethewhirl · 13/10/2024 18:38

Just maybe read posts and pause before your knee jerks?

At the time I composed that, you hadn't yet posted your response. Not a knee-jerk at all.

RTFT for crying out loud.

no name calling @AngelicKaty or CAPS or multiple !!!!

You’ve calmed down 🍾

You can do with a bit of calming down on the cleaning yourself.

Kirova · 13/10/2024 18:40

I don't think the floor has been "decimated" 😆

The shock, horror, disgust is all a bit over the top - sure, that floor is a bit mucky, but it takes a few minutes max to sweep up. If OP is in late pregnancy I can fully understand that crawling around with a dustpan and brush is not the thing to do.

Megirlan123 · 13/10/2024 18:43

78Summer · 13/10/2024 08:31

The floor is filthy. Would need 4 hours to clean that alone much less worrying about the window seals.

Behave 🤣 What’s she cleaning it with, a toothbrush? Also SILLS not seals. Read the post.

Megirlan123 · 13/10/2024 18:45

saypleasepls · 13/10/2024 08:37

the OP said the cleaner took photos

so more than just this kitchen floor

the OP obviously would have cherry picked the photo she decided to share on this thread.

So… imagine what the bathroom looks like 🤢

Imagine all you like. It’s none of your business. This is not what is being asked. Why do you care enough to imagine what a strangers bathroom looks like. Weird.

Are there any post-cleaning pics if the floor, to show whether she cleaned it properly or not?

dont know about the op but I feel it’s very shameful to come on and slate a stranger over one photo 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lalalaahhh · 13/10/2024 19:10

The floor is dirty, but so what? The cleaner is there to clean. I used to clean and I personally liked the dirtier houses, where you can actually see a difference after. The only thing I would be grossed out by is dirty toilets. You aren’t touching the floor, just vacuuming or sweeping it!

gruberandassocs · 13/10/2024 19:12

wulves · 12/10/2024 19:03

Buy one of those vacuum and mop all in one robots.

These are life changing!

Cattyisbatty · 13/10/2024 19:14

Dearie me - I saw the pic that the cleaner took - that is rank! I sweep and we have a robot vacuum that runs round the kitchen in the night.
Does the floor not get swept between the cleans?

ruethewhirl · 13/10/2024 19:19

Parts of this thread are like feminism never happened. Or an exercise in selective reading. Probably both. Either way it's a depressing read.

DaughterOfSqualor · 13/10/2024 19:21

Maybe my current name betrays my slovenliness but can I just say I find the clean-shaming on this thread really unpleasant? FFS. Not all of us are clean-freak Mrs Hinch fetishists. And sometimes houses just get on top of you. I know ours does. Kitchen floors aren't literally meant to be so clean you could eat off them, you know. We have (clean) plates for that. Kitchens are high-traffic and food is prepared in them - they're not bloody laboratories!

God, isn't it JUST?! Sad

pollyglot · 13/10/2024 19:23

OP - did you mean window sills rather than seals? That would seem more logical.

Deeperthantheocean · 13/10/2024 19:25

If every room is like the floor it's a case of cleaning then deep clean. You can't deep clean when there are bits everywhere, that involves a general clean to get rid it I assume? If I had the luxury of a cleaner I would have a quick sweep up first for a deep clean, otherwise expect just a normal clean. Xx

GreenFritillary · 13/10/2024 19:31

I heard of people who felt they had to clean before the cleaner came, but I never met any while I was a cleaner. OP's house looks normal to me. I've seen far worse. Once I get down to it, I'm quite obsessive in my cleaning, so I agree with her in disliking a sloppy job.

Yes, she did mean "sills" - and she corrected this in a post she made more than 24 hours ago.
