Soft drinks without Aspartame

Roundthemoon · 12/10/2024 17:12

I was drinking diet soft drinks as I thought they were slightly healthier. Now I've been hearing a lot of bad reports about Aspartame, which is the sweetener that they use in a lot of these drinks.

It seems to be in so many drinks. And so many studies show that it's not good for us.

Has anyone found any nice drinks to drink that don't have aspartame in them?

Do you mean of the pop / soda / fizzy variety?

I used to drink 'full fat' Schweppes bitter lemon but the fizz is too much for my ancient digestive system these days, so I switched to tomato juice/V8.

You can get bottles of original coca cola in Waitrose.

Fever tree tonic water. The rhubarb & raspberry is lovely.

Gettingannoyednow · 12/10/2024 17:25

San Pellegrino

Skyrainlight · 12/10/2024 17:25

I use Belvoir cordial and add it to sparkling water if I want the feeling of a soda without tons of sugar. I never consume drinks with aspartame.

I was drinking tonic water until I found out that quinine in tonic water is very bad for tour hearing.

My mother has very bad hearing. She went to a hearing specialist and the specialist asked her about her diet. When my mum said hat she drank tonic water, the specialist said that quinine can really badly affect our hearing.

It's in tonic water.

Aspartame has been debunked sooo many times. At this stage it's almost been debunked as many times as vaccines giving autism. The problem is that people make money from scaring people. Please do not take advice from anyone who still peddles that nonsense.

MClair · 12/10/2024 17:27

I like Dalston’s soft drinks particularly the rhubarb and sparkling water

Nice!

Yeah I must try and stick to sparkling water

I actually think I am allergic to aspartame. I cannot stand the taste and it “furs” my mouth. If I have a soft drink I drink full sugar coke but would like some alternatives .

DustyAmuseAlien · 12/10/2024 17:30

If you can find the San Pellegrino "Classic" (not the tastefully light) that doesn't have aspartame - but many supermarkets only stock the sweetener version. The lemon one is our favourite.

I don't know.

I know a few health professionals who told me that aspartame is like poison to the body.

Not sure about aspartame but the full sugar drinks also have added sweetener because of the sugar tax

It is bad for the body, my mother used to get ringing in the ears when she drank too much diet coke. I looked it up at the time and it's known.
"Several food or food additives can also trigger or exacerbate ringing in the ear. If you have tinnitus, you may want to think about kicking that diet soda habit for good. Some researchers suspect aspartame might have a connection to tinnitus.6 Mar 2018"

Allergictoironing · 12/10/2024 17:35

I may be the first, but positive I won't be the last in posting that I am quite badly intolerant to Aspartame, Acetesulphame & all artificial sweeteners. Blinding headaches, cramps, the runs, wind, aching joints.....

Every few months we get someone asking for fizzy drinks without artificial sweeteners in them, and the list seems to get shorter every time. Even most non-diet drinks have them now, and don't say anything about changing the recipe so the label has to be checked (looking at you here Pepsi!). When even energy drinks have replaced most or all of the sugar with sweeteners, it makes life hard for some of us!

I buy mostly normal sugar squash from Asda now and add to sparking water

Gettingannoyednow · 12/10/2024 17:25

San Pellegrino

Still has sweeteners

Helenloveslee4eva · 12/10/2024 17:39

I’ve give. Up and it’s water / fizzy water or juice

nirishism · 12/10/2024 17:41

Belvoir plus fizzy water, absolutely. Gorgeous flavours also. The ginger one is beautiful, also lovely as a hot drink in winter, with a slice of lemon.

Perihelion · 12/10/2024 17:42

Full sugar coca-cola.
I avoid aspartate and other artificial sweetners as they tend to trigger migraines in me.

snoopyfanaccountant · 12/10/2024 17:44

Add some lemon or lime juice to sparkling water.

Not the classic recipe. The tastefully light version does though.

Imgoingtothebeach · 12/10/2024 17:46

Cawston press.
Rocks orange squash.
Fentemans lemonade

colouringindoors · 12/10/2024 17:47

I buy "fancy" cordials like this, and add sparkling water. Good value too 😊

lots of other flavours

Does this not have sweetener as well?
Most do
