Soft drinks without Aspartame

Roundthemoon · 12/10/2024 17:12

I was drinking diet soft drinks as I thought they were slightly healthier. Now I've been hearing a lot of bad reports about Aspartame, which is the sweetener that they use in a lot of these drinks.

It seems to be in so many drinks. And so many studies show that it's not good for us.

Has anyone found any nice drinks to drink that don't have aspartame in them?

If your mum is drinking four litres of tonic a day I'd be worried about diabetes more than hearing loss OP. That is Shock

Yeah I used to aswell.

We used to drink a lot of it as we thought it was better for us than soft drinks.

You can buy a one litre bottle of tonic water from Tesco for about 30p.

We used to stock up on it and drink it every day.

I used to sip from a bottle all day wil working from home

As we thought we were being healthy drinking it

San Pellegrino

I think they changed that too

Allmarbleslost · 12/10/2024 19:58

I don't have any sweeteners at all because they all give me the raging shits. I'm not a squash drinker but if I want a fizzy drink I have a cawston press, appletise or sparkling water. San pellegrino also do one which is just sparkling water and fruit.

Ponderingwindow · 12/10/2024 20:04

“Debunking” aspartame? How does that work when there are people who get immediately ill upon consumption?

for me it is a migraine. Tiny bit of aspartame = horrible migraine with vomiting.

AustralianCrunch · 12/10/2024 20:06

After years of terrible migraines my husband realised Aspartame was the trigger. He hasn't had a single attack since he stopped drinking anything that contains it.

WaneyEdge · 12/10/2024 20:15

You can also get cordials from Polish supermarkets, Lowicz is the name. They never had sweeteners in. Some Asda and Sainsbury’s have them too but not a big selection.

Irn Bru 1901. Not sure how widely available it is outside Scotland but it is the original recipe, full sugar and no caffeine.

@OneDandyPoet
I never said they don't have sweeteners, I said no aspartame.

Every regular squash, from Asdas, as well as all the other supermarkets, contains sweeteners, unless you buy those expensive, brand versions.

That’s simply not true they have a range of their own brand made with just regular sugar - yellow band around label

ingredients in the blackcurrant Ingredients
Blackcurrant Juice from Concentrate (50%), Water, Sugar, Flavourings, Citric Acid, Preservatives (Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Metabisulphite), Plant and Vegetable Concentrates [Carrot, Hibisc

EnterFunnyNameHere · 12/10/2024 20:26

If you're really that worried, just stick to water!

There are at least as many health repercussions from the sugar in "full fat" pop as the sweeteners in diet pop I'm sure!

Why don’t more drinks contain stevia? It’s really nice and natural too

Stevia in its natural form is not considered to be safe for consumption.

In order to have GRAS status it has to be heavily processed to remove everything but the steviol glycosides which are considered safe at the moment.

To me it has an unpleasant liquorice after taste.I can always tell if it's in something

Flopsy145 · 12/10/2024 22:24

A fresh like and soda, thinking of it actually makes me salivate. Squeeze a whole like with old of those proper pressers and then soda and ice. If you want it sweeter I guess you could add a bit of agave in there, chuck some mint in and it's a virgin mojito

chattyness · 12/10/2024 22:41

Benson's Totally Fruity , so delicious

Apologies, I stand corrected.

No chance, deaths from consuming too much water are quite common.

Stevia is in most drinks nowadays, it is not "natural" it has a patent and contains a lot of "unatural stuff" to process it .

Stevia doesnt taste good either, it tastes overly sweet and has a weird mouth feel.
I think some manufacturers are not including it in ingredients . I came across a drink called FHIRST that had "Leaf Infusion (Water, Sweetleaves)" which turned out to be stevia!

lifeisnotstraigtforward · 13/10/2024 08:28

Following- as I hate any drink with sweetners or man-made chemicals. I tend to drink fruit juice with soda water and a splash of lime juice. Otherwise its coffee, water, tea or wine.

Appletiser
Capstone Press
Decent quality cordial like Waitrose, Belvoir or Bottle Green with carbonated water

I'm trying to wean myself off fizzy drinks because they're no good for you but it's nice to have something occasionally without the horrible sweetener aftertaste.

Halfemptyhalfling · 13/10/2024 09:25

Grow fruit bushes or fruit trees and make your own is safest nowadays.

Some Bottlegreen now contain Stevia. Apparently can be listed as ‘natural flavouring’. Screenshot attached of a reply to a customer query about sweetener:
