whoever you voted for, what are your thoughts after the First 100 Days?
I didn’t vote for Labour, but I was quite excited in their first few weeks as Keir got his head down and I was excited fir change.

Now I just feel deflated. Same old….freebiegate, nitpicking, infighting. A bit depressing really.

i don’t even think there was a decent alternative really….and that’s even more depressing!!!!!

Yes. It was within the rules. He didn't ‘need’ to pay it back as it was all legit. Thanks for admitting that. He appreciated that people were upset and he acted.

No rules broken does not mean innocent in the court of public opinion.

Most UK employees, including the whole of the Civil Service, would get sacked for taking gifts like these.

The fact MPs are allowed to do it, does not make it right.

MPs also seem to be avoiding paying any tax on these gifts. That will be the next part of the story. I think that is why Starmer paid them back…

cardibach · 21/10/2024 14:49

Yes. For impropriety. For not declaring. For breaking laws. For watching porn 8n the chamber. For sexual assaults.
I think the gift system needs changing, but it’s hardly a scandal to follow t(e rules now, is it?

I clearly have different values from your PM and Chancellor, because I would not have accepted free clothes etc from a third party.

5000+ days (and three administrations) vs 109 days.

Good going.

And no law breaking or scandals. Yes. Much improved.

I saw that coming a mile away.

Only in name.

Well what else? Why is it so difficult to believe that someone earned a six figure salary before the age of thirty almost thirty years ago? Plenty did. And shock, horror some of us are Labour voters. Who knew!!!!

I have no reason to doubt you. That salary / trajectory is quite remarkable; but still plausible.

You will have a limit to how much you are happy to give to Labour in taxes. Maybe you are not at that limit yet; but it might soon come.

I wasn't cagey. It is not my fault if your comprehension isn't up to scratch. I said first degree was Oxbridge, several years blue chip corporate, high ranking MBA then City M&A. Or maybe you just don't know what all that means.

Thank you. It doesn't really matter that much now . It was a long time ago. It just rankles a bit when certain posters don't believe that you could be earning £100k+ now when I passed that milestone nearly thirty years ago and that's not taking account what that would be in today's money.

I agree with what you say about limits. I am not far Left, more Left of Centre. I don't have any problem at all contributing for those who are not as fortunate as we are but I don't expect my contributions to be p**d against the wall. I want to see deliverables and I am very hacked off about the WFA.

I haven’t been working for as long as you. But my grad job in the civil service was about £16k!!

I’ve worked my sox off to earn what I do; including a PhD, launching two start ups, moving round the country, and taking a lot of risk.

to think I only earn around six times the min wage for all of that; and Labour wants to lean in and take a wodge more, It’s pretty galling really!

What drew you to working in the City? As a career it tends to focus on making money. And private over state

I’m sure there are some posters who will forgive Labour’s tax rises no matter what. Imo it’s more about their policies and whether they hamper growth. If they do that every level will be negatively impacted, as their pledges depend on it.

You seem really bothered…odd that. I don’t believe you. Personally, I can’t see why you’re so rattled. I couldn’t care less what a stranger on the internet thinks. Odd you are so defensive IMO.

@Aduvetday bless, you've misunderstood that bit too, Sherlock.

Absolutely delighted with them and agree with all they've put in place so far.

Anyone who thought that is deluded. The government is planning to save £1.6billion over five years by coming down hard on benefit fraud.
