First 100 days

Iwishicouldflyhigh · 12/10/2024 10:08

whoever you voted for, what are your thoughts after the First 100 Days?
I didn’t vote for Labour, but I was quite excited in their first few weeks as Keir got his head down and I was excited fir change.

Now I just feel deflated. Same old….freebiegate, nitpicking, infighting. A bit depressing really.

i don’t even think there was a decent alternative really….and that’s even more depressing!!!!!

My reply wasn’t to yourself directly!

But it’s your view of people who don’t subscribe to the FT, right?
Their priorities are skewed and they spend all their money on fags and gambling?

As a sweeping generalisation - it is pretty accurate!

Is it bollocks.
Just ober a million people subscribe to FT online. All the other adults fit your lazy stereotype?
You know what, I think my political and social awareness and knowledge is way, way better than yours. So much so that I’m going to make a note never to respond to your ignorant nonsense again. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Rockalittle78 · 16/10/2024 15:57

The ‘LeftT’ I call it.

One of my colleagues still takes the hard copy to read - I’ve advised him to attempt to cover it with a copy of Playboy or similar.

You don’t like it because you think it’s left wing?
Has everyone taken leave of rational thought or what?

Calm yourself down - and don’t talk to me in the condescending way you do with others - I won’t tolerate it, to be clear.

It was an attempt at levity. That being said, if you knew some of the FT editorial and readership, you might amend your view.

Bloomberg and Reuters are the more unbiased business media.

I’m not being condescending, and nor have I been to others. I have been condescended to by others, and I think you might be drifting towards that yourself.
It’s not left wing.

OK, let’s step back then - I apologise.

I otherwise stand by my remarks.

The FT is quite left wing at the moment. They were very keen for Labour’s election and have given them a very easy ride on all their digressions so far. I mainly take it for the financial news though.

So now the talk is of a 40bn black hole…

The tax increases (for some) will be savage!

No such talk of a £40bn black hole.

The black hole is £22bn. Which enables to retain the country in the same shit state it is in currently.

The rest is to enable us to actually climb out.

But still drink, smoke, gamble, and watch subscription TV.

Any of which would pay for an FT subscription and the benefits that brings.

It’s priorities really; and what we value.

Ha!
Some people can't help being a cunty antagonist, can they?

How deluded. You are rude but expect posters to be respectful to you. Be a bit more tolerable yourself maybe?

Benefits bill to be cut by £3bn in Budget.
Labour to pursue Conservatives’ savings targets for welfare spending in bid to tackle worklessness crisis.

Thats more like it.

Not tolerating obviously means that you just try to be a bit more rude. Your posts really are pathetic. Reflects a lot more on you than anyone you target. Back under your little bridge now.

Rummly · 18/10/2024 09:36

I don’t disagree with the basic point that budgets are not - formally - pre-announced. For the precise detail we will have to wait and see.

But it is silly to suppose that every, or even most, likely changes reported on are just speculation (“by the right wing press”). The government is leaking and testing. It’s expectation management.

I’m sure there’s also some wilful over-egging by government briefers - the budget won’t be as bad as some leaks would suggest - but the bogus black holes are a strong indicator of the overall picture.

It’s amusing to see the “there’s no such thing as government debt” and “austerity is the root of all evil” posts have dried up.

I do hope the Tories are sensible in their reception of the budget. If there are spending cuts and not just more taxation, this could be, at least in part, a good conservative budget.

Well, Labour have said they won't be pursuing the green paper consultation on PIP,so it may not be the kinds of benefit cuts you would like to see.

Personally I would love to see more people in work, having seen how it benefited my disabled DS who is in receipt of PIP. What matters is that it's done constructively.
