To think that people shouldn’t wear large squirts of very very potent perfume?

It’s the equivalent of listening to music and shite on loud speaker on public transport. Everyone around them has to suffer it.

I was actually wheezing and felt nauseous at the strength of someone’s perfume the other day and I couldn’t leave or move away from it.

FFS, why are people so self absorbed?

It is probably less unpleasant than those people who stink and are one of the reasons why many people shun public transport.

abracadabra1980 · 08/10/2024 17:58

I agree - it just screams chavvy to me - whatever the perfume may be.
Also I have dogs-wearing perfume is tantamount to abuse of their senses-so I let them be comforted by my own natural smell - whether it's perfumed or not 😜

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 08/10/2024 18:02

Do you mean spraying in public? I don't like that (along with brushing hair, applying make-up) in public either, but could it possibly have been done because someone stank?

CruCru · 08/10/2024 18:04

No one should wear perfume at the dentist or on an aeroplane (and it should be really subtle at the cinema / theatre).

IDontHateRainbows · 08/10/2024 18:05

I douse myself heavily in perfume at home, I love the smell and probably have become a bit nose blind as I use it daily.

I don't spritz it when out but I'm certainly not going to stay in the house reclusively because I put some on earlier.

Viviennemary · 08/10/2024 18:08

I don't mind strong perfume if it's nice. The original Angel one was awful. Made me sneeze.

AgnesX · 08/10/2024 18:09

Some perfumes are very strong and people just get the number of squirts wrong so it's stronger than intended. Especially first thing.

Thinking of my neighbour 😁

SoManyTshirts · 08/10/2024 18:09

I only use a little, and give it time to ‘settle’ before I leave the house. The most penetrating smell on the bus is usually BO or weed. Dogs can be pretty unpleasant too, but are rarely travelling at the times I do.

Skyrainlight · 08/10/2024 18:10

Completely agree, they make me sneeze too. I think they are nose blind so they don't realise how much they stink.

YourLastNerve · 08/10/2024 18:12

Yanbu..i find a lot of people, particularly women my mums age (60s +) are very nose blind and wear huge amounts of strong perfume. I find it sickening.

I hated that, my friend used to wear it when I was pregnant 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

WiserOlderElf · 08/10/2024 18:14

To be honest I far prefer it to the all pervading smell of unwashed bodies and clothes on public transport. While neither perfume nor BO would be preferable, I can’t see it happening!

ObieJoyful · 08/10/2024 18:16

I’ve had migraines at the theatre, and on a plane because of perfume.

I don’t think people who douse themselves in it realise how much everyone else can smell it.

Tir3edAndTested · 08/10/2024 18:17

Yes! One of my biggest frustrations!
We were in a soft play this morning and someone had the STRONGEST perfume filling the whole room, surely they don't think that so much smells good?
Not to mention people suffering with allergies, asthma and the babies too

bryceQ · 08/10/2024 18:19

Honestly I never find a perfume too strong, but I am regularly exposed to pungent BO which I find very off putting

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 08/10/2024 18:21

No, not spraying while out. That is disgusting.

I mean dousing themselves excessively before.

I prefer it to BO that's definitely anti social

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/10/2024 18:23

OMG, yes!

Though I don’t think I’ve ever come across anything as stinkingly overpowering as a massive ‘overdose’ of Estée Lauder Youth Dew - thankfully back in the 80s.

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 08/10/2024 18:25

Turn your shit music/program off or put ear phones on, don’t have loud obnoxious phone calls in public, pick your dog shit up, put your rubbish in bins, don’t fucking spit, take your feet and bags off the seat on the train and don’t buy/soak yourself in poisonous awful perfume.
Clean your teeth so your breath doesn’t stink for everyone within a foot of you breathing all over them.

oh and try soap & water. BO is equally as offensive.

There. I said it.

I was away to have this rant last week but in regard to swimming pools.

Just how much have you put on that I can still smell it and cough every time we pass. I don't understand how it's possible but even with my face in the water and steamed up goggles I knew exactly when you were coming.

It gives me a headache too.

WhatsInTheRug · 08/10/2024 18:31

Is a small squirt acceptable then?

How do you know how large the squirt was?

This is ridiculous
Just because you feel wheezy and sick, the whole world has to wear less perfume?? This is entitled
And please explain how a squirt of smelly is self-absorbed? Because if we are using no explanation, or a riduculous definition of being self-absorbed, people who wear too much slap are self-absorbed because it offends my eyes
People will uncontrolled children are self-absorbed
People who don't look where they are going because they are on their phone are self-absorbed
We could go on

It seems you would be happier to not interact with the public because they all seem to offend you
Are you blessed with a family that does none of the above?

DaemonMoon · 08/10/2024 18:38

I prefer the stink of BO. Perfume smells make my skin and eyes burn, nose run and itch.

I was walking in the local park yesterday and as a perfume addict, I notice smells in general (good and bad) and scents in particular. I noticed most of the strongest chemtrails of powerful scents were left by groups of young men and women. Strong washing products applies across all generations but with more wafting out of young adults jogging past me. I’m in my 60s and none of my friends wear strong perfumes. Not noticed overwhelmingly strong scents when I go to WI meetings (most of us are 50+). I try not to be an offender when I’m wearing stronger perfumes (just a small spray on each wrist) but spray more on of the mild ones .
