To think that people shouldn’t wear large squirts of very very potent perfume?

It’s the equivalent of listening to music and shite on loud speaker on public transport. Everyone around them has to suffer it.

I was actually wheezing and felt nauseous at the strength of someone’s perfume the other day and I couldn’t leave or move away from it.

FFS, why are people so self absorbed?

It seems you would be happier to not interact with the public because they all seem to offend you
Are you blessed with a family that does none of the above?

I am, thankfully. All those things are disgusting.

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 08/10/2024 18:39

Too much slap won’t make you wheeze, give you headaches and make you feel nauseous will it.

You know from the strength of the stink that it has been squirted to death… excessively.

Self absorbed, ABSOLUTELY because they have zero concern or even thoughts about anyone else around them.

Selfish, self absorbed and do not care about others. That’s the definition isn’t it.

It's always the foul smelling perfumes, never the nice ones, too.

cookiebee · 08/10/2024 18:40

They are just people living their lives, as long as they don’t stab you, that’s the main thing, life’s becoming so boring and intolerant!

So all of these things are ok with you then?

I forgot to say I’m mid 60s but have a v good sense of smell still. Hearing shot but am like a bloodhound when it comes to smell.

letmego24 · 08/10/2024 18:41

You entitled to your opinion but can't control it

Ponderingwindow · 08/10/2024 18:43

No one should wear perfume detectable to anyone other than themselves.

heavy perfume is dangerous. It absolutely sucks to start breaking out in hives, wheezing, and have your lips swell because some idiot decided to douse themselves in scent. I vacate the area as fast as I can. One day, I may not be able to get away from the person. I don’t actually know what will happen. I have epipens and inhalers, but I don’t know if they will be enough.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 08/10/2024 18:46

I've mentioned this before but wearing a lot of perfume is a faux pas in Japan and some restaurants will even not let you enter.
All part of living in a society with consideration.

CabbagesAndCeilingWax · 08/10/2024 18:46

I must have seen it on a bossy 90s teen movie once, but I always spray the air and the walk through the mist, rather than squirting it directly on my skin. Multiple squirts directly onto the skin is far too much of any perfume.

YANBU - heavy perfume, even on other people, gives me a migraine (although tbf everything gives me a migraine these days 🙄)

OctoberOctopus · 08/10/2024 18:47

I agree it's awful they stink. Does their nose not work!

OatcakeCravings · 08/10/2024 18:48

God I was trapped in the car with my elderly MIL for 3 hours last February, there and back, and she reeked and I mean reeked of Angel which she resprayed all over before we got out of the car. I was gagging, we had to open the windows and it was snowing! My DH actually ended up having to use the carpet shampooer on the seat and even then it lingered. She has always used far too much perfume but it has become ridiculous.

OneRarelySeesABrazierTheseDays · 08/10/2024 18:34

This is ridiculous
Just because you feel wheezy and sick, the whole world has to wear less perfume?? This is entitled
And please explain how a squirt of smelly is self-absorbed? Because if we are using no explanation, or a riduculous definition of being self-absorbed, people who wear too much slap are self-absorbed because it offends my eyes
People will uncontrolled children are self-absorbed
People who don't look where they are going because they are on their phone are self-absorbed
We could go on

Clearly you are one of the perfumed nose blind problem people that stink everyone out.

EatSleepSleepRepeat · 08/10/2024 18:51

It's not a binary choice between BO and perfume!

Nobody should be able to smell you unless they want to be close enough to kiss you

Gruffalosoulja · 08/10/2024 18:52

I used to think Angel smelt amazing. In the end, some people intervened and I realised the error of my ways.

Still feel quite embarrassed about it. And it was so expensive! I used to save up and go to Selfridge’s especially!

Evenstar · 08/10/2024 18:52

Some of them trigger my asthma badly, I am glad Dior’s Poison seems to have gone out of fashion as I once coughed till I nearly vomited after sharing a lift with someone wearing a massive amount of it.

That's the standard you live by? As long as they don't stab you? My standards for decent human behaviour are higher.

Do you not think it’s a bit entitled to subject everyone to overpowering perfume though? One or two sprays is obviously enough

Iwontlethtesungodownonme · 08/10/2024 18:57

Perfume triggers my migraines. I wish some people realised the effect they can have on others.

Guavafish1 · 08/10/2024 18:58

Better than BO

I was away to have this rant last week but in regard to swimming pools.

Just how much have you put on that I can still smell it and cough every time we pass. I don't understand how it's possible but even with my face in the water and steamed up goggles I knew exactly when you were coming.

It gives me a headache too.

Omg, I missed this rant. Wtf is wrong with wimmin in the swimmin pools. They don't shower before swimming, therefore I have to taste their nasty perfumes/deodorants
Absolutely mingin.
We should start a campaign!!

Decent human behaviour, like banning people from wearing fucking perfume, it’s just so god damn ridiculous. I sometimes wonder how some of the folk on mumsnet cope on the outside without melting like sugar at anything that other people do. Live and let live, and yes, don’t get stabbed 😂😂😂😂

outforawalkbiatch · 08/10/2024 19:11

I've honestly rarely smelt perfume on anyone else and I'm a perfume person so I notice

Mostly all I smell is body odour, old alcohol and tonsil stones (so many people have bad breath and you know the smell if you've ever had them!)

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 08/10/2024 19:16

abracadabra1980 · 08/10/2024 17:58

I agree - it just screams chavvy to me - whatever the perfume may be.
Also I have dogs-wearing perfume is tantamount to abuse of their senses-so I let them be comforted by my own natural smell - whether it's perfumed or not 😜

Never smelled a perfume that smelled worse than a dog 🤢

AlmostCutMyHairToday · 08/10/2024 19:32

When I smell such strong perfume it gives me PTSD of when I was in a chemical gas leak accident... No idea why people do it.
