He called a wasp a moron at dinner

Ok, this isn't a serious thread exactly just a weird moment

So I was having dinner with my partner, a very nice outdoor meal. Very romantic and looking into each other's eyes etc.

Then a wasp came along and dropped into his wine. He responded by saying 'get out of there you moron' which caused the couple next to us of stop talking and stare at him then me. He then gave the wasp a small pep talk after rescuing it.

I felt embarrassed as I felt it was a really OTT response! I wanted to say was it really necessary to verbally abuse that wasp but seemed an odd thing to say...it just felt like a very angry response

My sister once called her cat a "furry little wanker" in front of a room full of people at the vets, it was very funny and everyone who heard her laughed. It had just peed all over her.

She adores her cats, and has never abused an animal in her life.

DaftyLass · 06/10/2024 17:14

Did the wasp say it's feelings were hurt?

*its

PonyPatter44 · 06/10/2024 19:46

He is perfectly reasonable. Wasps ARE morons. Signed, a beekeeper.

BarbadosItsCloserThanYouThink · 06/10/2024 19:49

Moron was a bit soft, wasps are cunts.

AngelinaFibres · 06/10/2024 19:50

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 06/10/2024 18:15

He was restrained.
Wasps are twats.

And tbf my husband wouldn't have fished it out and ' given it a pep talk'. He would have crushed it under the spoon he'd used to fish it out .

Im quite sad to do thisbut I googled the word as wasnt sure if this was one of 'those' words that isnt politically correct, just going by the other diners reactions made me wonder and this is what it says about the word

The terms idiot, imbecile, moron, and their derivatives were formerly used as technical descriptors in medical, educational, and regulatory contexts. These uses were broadly rejected by the close of the 20th century and are now considered offensive.

We’d better ban American Idiot and let’s not forget Gordon is a Moron, that had better be banned from any karaoke or classic radio stations too.

Backtoblack87 · 06/10/2024 19:55

What?! Moron is mild and no one likes wasps! I was stung on the same foot twice whilst on holiday and after that all wasps were told to fuck off!

you need to chill out!

Needmorelego · 06/10/2024 19:56

I still don't understand how exactly one stands like t-rex 🦖

Worldwide2 · 06/10/2024 19:57

I think there were 2 morons at dinner.

steff13 · 06/10/2024 17:21

So now he didn't just call a wasp a moron, but he was also yelling and cursing and gesticulating? 🤔

Yep - that was drip feed because the responses weren't what was expected.

Superstar88 · 06/10/2024 20:01

I think the couple at other table probably thought the refers to you as no one else was at the table) that explains the weird look 😂

TwinklyAmberOrca · 06/10/2024 20:04

@PrueHal As "moron" is the Welsh word for carrot then he was far too polite. I'd be REALLY pissed off if a wasp tried to share my wine and would want something a little stronger than a vegetable insult.

ItsFreedomBabyYeah · 06/10/2024 20:10

I don't know, depends on his personality. I for one, will talk to every cat/dog/butterfly/squirrel/deer/bumblebee/dragonfly/gecko etc that I see. I mean, I don't abuse them and call them morons, but its very "me" to talk to every animal I see... Maybe he could have been somewhat more discreet.

LBFseBrom · 06/10/2024 20:14

Was it a wasp or a W. A.S.P. ? The latter would be offended at being called a 'moron', the former wouldn't care.

It's good that he rescued it. I wonder if it was drunk? Obviously trying to drown its sorrows. Bless.

Happygogoat · 06/10/2024 20:20

I think what has happened is he has given you what is known as “the ick” 😂

FrancisSeaton · 06/10/2024 20:21

Is this Sharon again? It involves a wasp and wine again

supersop60 · 06/10/2024 20:28

My DP once called a tea-towel a 'fucking cunt' when it fell on the floor. He didn't apologise or give it a pep talk.

Chicheguevara · 06/10/2024 20:28

I remember a wasp dropping in to my Dad’s drink. He was allowed one small Scotch a day - he just loved a decent single malt too - due to a health condition that he had at the time. He picked the wasp out of the scotch and said ‘spit dammit, that’s my daily drink’.
Mother was embarrassed, we kids thought it funny though. It still makes me smile.

Wednesdayschilld · 06/10/2024 20:29

I verbally abuse wasps at every encounter tbh

Manxexile · 06/10/2024 20:32

PrueHal · 06/10/2024 17:13

No!

My point was we were having a nice meal and him calling the wasp a moron caused other diners to look at him like he was mad. I was embarrassed

It's exactly the sort of thing I might have done. What's wrong with it?

(Ps - I don't think he was really verbally abusing the wasp. I think he was being amusing. Do you have a sense of humour?)

Lookingfornewdirection · 06/10/2024 20:35

Your DH sounds like a funny guy to me. And I mean in a good way.

housethatbuiltme · 06/10/2024 20:37

An insect tried to unalive itself in what I assume in relation to itself was a sea of wine... it was in fact a moronic act.

Elliebox · 06/10/2024 20:37

PrueHal · 06/10/2024 17:14

I didn't say anything but there was something about the 'display' that left me feeling weird after it

kindly OP. Get help

Stresshead84x · 06/10/2024 20:38

Anawi · 06/10/2024 17:37

That was my first thought, that I bet they thought he was talking to tou and were offended on your behalf!

Haha I bet they did.

I got stung by a wasp a few weeks ago and it was climbing about the door of my car when I parked. I didn't want to kill it but I was scared to get stung again so I said get out of there wee guy I don't want to kill you, just as a neighbour went by, I think she thought I was talking to one of my kids and she was really weird after it!

PieOMie · 06/10/2024 20:58

Sounds daft when you read the OP but I actually know where you’re coming from OP. This is the kind of thing my ex would do, he was loud and always had to draw attention to us - I’m an introvert and felt constantly embarrassed by him
