I am getting tired of it, particularly now that my sons have hit puberty, so I have mandated that all human inhabitants must wear a minimum of shorts. We have no daughters so I am the lone voice here. The boys are complaining bitterly. Husband is neutral but says he understands my feelings.

In our household we all wander round in our pants. Depends what you’re comfortable with.

A few answers:

• They started doing this at the age of 4 or so - I have only been bothered by it recently, with the advent of pants with holes on the front. I don't need to see your bits thank you!
• Our house is not warm. God only knows how they are not hypothermic.
• They have oodies but tend to only wear them sporadically.
• I tried to demonstrate my point by doing a round of the house in bra and pants. 13yo almost vomited, 12yo was clearly somewhat fascinated, DH amused. Not a long term option as I would freeze to death.

This is not a major source of distress to me, it's just mildly irritating. We have had steady battles over the years to reach the (to my mind) extremely lax status quo of 'wear pants when sitting on the sofa' and ' no dinner until you are wearing at minimum a tshirt and pants' 😂😂

As men tend to feel the cold less, it will be OP who suffers from this (unless having hot flushes maybe).

I think boxers are just fine no problem with that .. Y fronts would make me feel ill..

My neighbour (v good friend) had 3 boys and a DH... I would often pop over in the evening to see her when my kids were in bed .. and all three boys plus DH would be sprawled across sofas vegged out watching TV - each one with their hands down their pants .. she would bemoan. 'this is what I live with ' .. my favourite line to the assembled semi comatose gathering of glorious manhood was ' have you all lost your car keys ' 🤣

Mine were allowed to sit in their pants in their bedrooms (of course!) but top and bottoms in communal areas. Pyjamas fine. Track bottoms and hoodie fine. Shorts and T shirt fine.

Before anyone says-of course pants were fine for a trip from bedroom to bathroom and back.

How very unpleasant. They couldn't even modify their behaviour when someone came round.

I don't see the issue if they have boxers on. It's their home, why would a mother be bothered by their children's bodies 🤷‍♀️

This isn't a dripfeed I promise - I think I was just blotting it out! Ds1 has a tendency to put his hands down his pants legs (for want of a better word) and hoick the whole lot up so it looks like Borat's mankini. He also routinely tucks the rear side of his pants into his bum crease sumo wrestler style and bends over. This is entirely intentional and is part of what has driven me to the edge....

if you’re not expecting company why are you so upset? I painted my home office this afternoon in just my pants and an old sports bra. I didn’t want to ruin clothing and skin washes easier than fabric. Pants isn’t naked. And not dirty either assuming they change them daily

Yuck. Most people in this country don't even wash thier bums after a 💩 just wipe, then some people just have their underwear over that wiped bum and are sitting on sofas and chairs that guests will also sit on! 🤢

It's perfectly normal and healthy in Scandinavian countries to be naked. It's not like we don't know what the body looks like. Religious control has a lot to answer for.

I don't believe in sky fairies so I don't see what that has to do with anything and the boxers obviously aren't covering the arse crack that I'd rather not see

No she and them are in their private home, where I think you should be able to wear the same amount of clothing that acceptable in a public place.
