AIBU to expect my husband to wear a... slightly impractical... halloween costume?

My whole family have Toy Story themed costumes for halloween this year, we always do a family theme for my neighbour's party

Last night was the big try-on and all was great except for my husband. His costume is a big inflatable Buzz Lightyear that he was really excited about. It's so funny on but his problem is that it all fastens up at the back and there's no way he can get in and out of it without my help 😂

I don't see the issue at all, I can help with bathroom trips and obviously get him out at the end but he was just mortified about being "trapped" last night 😄 He's also got some concern it's really big for fitting through doors and hard to sit down but the fact he can't do it himself is the biggest thing and he's just finding other excuses too

He'd rather mess up the whole family theme to avoid wearing it, but I think he should because it's fun and a minor thing. AIBU?

I'm a bit speechless by this thread. Do people really do this? 😮😮😮

I think it’s like family pyjamas. You either do that, or run for the hills.

YABVU.

What an awful evening for him. Forced to wear something that he doesn't want to and can't even take a shit without help.

Yeah, this isn't OK.

.

MerryMarys · 03/10/2024 14:42

Yeah, but like I said, go to America where Halloween is a huge thing and you will see what people dress like.

Doesn't mean we need to copy such a silly and over commercialised trend!?

KimPossible91 · 03/10/2024 15:09

Husband and I had a good laugh at all these very serious responses 🤣

We both have fun dressing up for halloween and he chose the costume, he was just a little surprised by how difficult it was when it arrived. I think we'll be ok to continue our little tradition.

Last night we both had a turn trying it on again, and both made a serious attempt at escape too... confirmed totally impossible but that's fine because there's two of us after all.

He's going to wear it for the first part of the party then I'll discretely help him take it off, probably in less than an hour. You can wear normal clothes underneath. He's happy and all looking forward to it 🥳

The only remaining condition is he doesn't want everyone to know of the difficulty as he is just mortified by that. I can relate, the "yup ok I can't do it, can you help?" was awful hahahaha

It doesn’t. But most traditions change over time and you are not the one who decides what those traditions may be. People can celebrate it differently than you do, if you do. You can dress up as a witch if you want to, I don’t think anyone will stop you. 😊

@KimPossible91 Good to hear you both enjoyed the responses on here, and could laugh about it :) When you said, "He's going to wear it for the first part of the party then I'll discretely help him take it off, probably in less than an hour".
I'm pretty sure ( and hopefully) you didn't mean it would take probably less than an hour to help him take it off! LOL
Anyway, you have a really fun time at the party, you sound like a fun family and good you can compromise and help each other when needed!

Noglitterallowed · 06/10/2024 00:09

I wouldn’t be going if I was him! Force fun and being told what to wear is a nightmare for some people

TrustyRusty68 · 06/10/2024 04:31

It’d be a no from me! I don’t want to be uncomfortable all night thank you! Luckily Halloween is a few weeks away so send the costume back and he can choose something else :-)

Here2talk · 06/10/2024 06:20

Just get this one instead Buzz light year codtumr

Coruscations · 06/10/2024 07:06

What has Toy Story got to do with Hallowe'en?

Emmz1510 · 06/10/2024 07:35

Sorry but this is my idea of hell and I find whole family dress ups totally cringe! Each to their own I guess. I do like Halloween and watching the kids have fun.
Needs a simpler costume. Surely there must be a Buzz costume that isn’t inflatable?

LlamaLoopy · 06/10/2024 07:50

We did similar and Hubbie wore the inflatable to arrive and when we were all in the garden then turned it off inside as he was taking up all the space so folded it down and had an appropriate t shirt … can you get a t shirt that looks like buzz top part?

Whoyoutakingto · 02/10/2024 13:40

My 22 year old daughter would love this. I would put pressure on for your DH to wear the dress but we are a mean family 😂

Ha same. I love a fancy dress party and would tell my other half to lump it, would hate to miss out tho too he gets real FOMO !!

HotSource · 06/10/2024 09:23

Don’t go near any candles or tea lights….

GRex · 06/10/2024 09:47

It's an impractical costume. Just send it back and buy a different Buzz Lightyear that has separate top and trousers. There are loads of options, it's silly to stick with something that isn't usable.

HotSource · 06/10/2024 12:32

Just get a non inflatable one.

That inflatable one will be so awkward in a busy party, will be unbearably hot and sweaty to wear being airtight polyester, and a total fire hazard. Polyester Tents are treated to be less flammable but they still melt in a fast smouldering heap. This will be the same material. I wouldn’t want to be inside it where there are tealights inside pumpkins etc.

Kths · 06/10/2024 19:38

You are making it not fun for him

I wouldn’t wear a costume I couldn’t get out of

how about trying to find a different style buzz costume that’s more manageable

Asked a question. You all engaged with me. Then my husband and I pissed ourselves laughing at you.

Aren't you lovely.
