AIBU to expect my husband to wear a... slightly impractical... halloween costume?

My whole family have Toy Story themed costumes for halloween this year, we always do a family theme for my neighbour's party

Last night was the big try-on and all was great except for my husband. His costume is a big inflatable Buzz Lightyear that he was really excited about. It's so funny on but his problem is that it all fastens up at the back and there's no way he can get in and out of it without my help 😂

I don't see the issue at all, I can help with bathroom trips and obviously get him out at the end but he was just mortified about being "trapped" last night 😄 He's also got some concern it's really big for fitting through doors and hard to sit down but the fact he can't do it himself is the biggest thing and he's just finding other excuses too

He'd rather mess up the whole family theme to avoid wearing it, but I think he should because it's fun and a minor thing. AIBU?

I couldn't do it, the thought of it is making me feel a bit claustrophobic! I wouldn't force someone to wear something like that they were uncomfortable with

Nocameltoeleggingsplease · 02/10/2024 13:49

My DH wouldn’t even go to the party.
Also, the ‘big try on’ sounds horrendous.
Don't make him wear something he hates or he might never do it again.

FupaTrooper · 02/10/2024 13:51

I feel unbearably claustrophobic just reading your OP

MarmaladeJars · 02/10/2024 13:54

Would an adult dyper solve the issue?

Planesmistakenforstars · 02/10/2024 13:55

Swap costumes with him.

rayofsunshine86 · 02/10/2024 13:57

He agreed to it, he was excited about it, now toughen up a bit. The whole family are in it together. It's just for one evening!

5128gap · 02/10/2024 13:57

Just get him to put it on, make an appearance and have a family photo, then swap it out for Mr Potato Head or something for the rest of the party.

Fastback · 02/10/2024 13:58

If I were him, I’d threaten to ruin the forced family “fun” by cutting a hole for his peen at the very front.

This all sounds just awful 😂

BuzzieLittleBee · 02/10/2024 13:58

Am I missing something - what has Toy Story got to do with Halloween?

Gonk123 · 02/10/2024 13:58

Surely there is another outfit off buzz you can find?

Demonhunter · 02/10/2024 13:59

Sid would be a simple enough costume to whip up.

sadeightiesthrowback · 02/10/2024 14:02

godmum56 · 02/10/2024 13:14

because HE DOES NOT WANT TO

OP's DH was "really excited about" the costume, his issue was the size and impracticality of it, not the fun part of it. It's been suggested that compromise would be to wear it for an hour, then wear something else.
No where did OP suggest that her DH didn't want to go to the party itself.
She is the one pushing for him to go in the impractical costume, I suggested a compromise.

KimberleyClark · 02/10/2024 14:05

Would he be able to get food/drink to his mouth wearing that or would you have to feed him?

‘Murica, probably.

Skyrainlight · 02/10/2024 14:14

You are very unreasonable, the whole family doesn't need to match. No chance I would wear that outfit.

AgileGreenSeal · 02/10/2024 14:14

I hate Halloween.
Love fancy dress though.

But this monstrosity would be a definite NO.
You be Buzz if you want?
Let him pick what he wants to be.
including himself .

MartinCrieffsLemon · 02/10/2024 14:15

Ignoring all those who think dressing up is ridiculous...

He was excited until the practicalities came out and he realised it wasn't as fun as he thought. Just buy him a different Buzz costume, then you are all matching still and he's comfortable

And, no, your dress isn't the same! You can pee in it without him!

TotalAbsenceOfImperialRaiment · 02/10/2024 14:16

I don't think you can expect another adult to wear any specific outfit, unless they are attending an event where there is a dress code.

yup but he has looked at it, said he does not want to wear it because reasons and that should be the end of it.

Well they do have to match if they go as a family with a theme. It’s kind of a thing to do this where Halloween comes from.

But an inflatable costume is very uncomfortable.

Yes you are missing something. Halloween is when you kind of dress up, and it’s mostly here that people seem to think you have to dress up as something scary.

Fastback · 02/10/2024 14:09

‘Murica, probably.

Anything goes on Halloween. Disney costumes always popular. Taylor Swift, Wizard of Oz, Mario & Luigi were big last year.

Yes, 'Murica' inspired for sure.

But surely you dress up as something to do with halloween? Whether that be something 'scary', or something relating to a film about/featuring Halloween?

Since when did Halloween = any kind of random fancy dress?
