Someone’s using my phone number for temu account

Keep getting verification codes via text from Temu. Have gone onto the website and if I try to login in using the phone number it shows you the partial email of who the account belongs to (doesn’t actually log you in but I could if I confirmed it was my account)

anyway even though the email is only partially visible there’s enough there for me to realise I know the person (there’s also a blurred profile picture). I don’t want to contact the person directly for lots of reasons but can’t find a way to go through the contact Temu page without logging in.

Anyone know how I can contact temu via email as there seems to be no specific one when I google. I just want my phone number removed from the account.

Also to add this person had issues with online spending and gambling so although I’m entirely sure how using my phone number helps I am concerned

Can you just block as spam?

BobbyBiscuits · 01/10/2024 16:36

You're not having any dealings with temu. Surely just block the emails. Someone can't be buying stuff using your credit cards or anything else you'd know. Temu is dodgy AF so contacting them is probably impossible if you don't want to speak to a dodgy chat bot. Untill anyone's stolen money I'd just block all of it.

BobbyBiscuits · 01/10/2024 16:38

Wow got last post banned for saying they are potentially dodgy and to block them. Same as last poster?

rainfallpurevividcat · 01/10/2024 16:40

I'd set up your own account then ask them to remove the phone number from the other account.

Or you could write to them.

Sometimes better to have things in writing.

Also hopefully when that post is allowed there is a link to their social media accounts as well you could try contacting them on.

If you need to make it more "official" here is a template and information from the ICO.

But it isn’t spam someone has an account with temu and is using my phone number as part of their account information.

MN’s annoying spam filter is hiding all the bloody posts. So annoying!!

Oooooh wonder why all the messages are being blocked on here? How weird.

I don't know what you can do op, but I'd also want my number removed

I can but I suspect that would be dodgy ground legally on my part accessing someone else’s account and without giving too much detail I suspect there has been other fraudulent activity (not towards me) by this person in past and I don’t want any potential link to them and their activities.

What is the point having a verification code text to you if you don't have the phone to get the code?

They obviously know the code will go to you?

So? You can still block the number the verification text is coming from.

The problem isn’t about receiving the texts. Blocking the Temu number won’t stop my phone number being registered as this persons on an active account. Not sure why that’s so hard to understand?

No idea and it’s not stopping them accessing the account and buying things as when I entered my phone number it tells you which email the account is linked to and the last date of purchase which is today.

This is what I was trying to say, to you it is spam - unwanted message

Yeah not going to wait to have money stolen or be linked to potential fraud. I’m surprised people are so blasé about how their personal data is being used by other people!

No it’s not spam it’s someone using my phone number on their account. I don’t care about spam emails and messages from a random King in Africa wanted to share a million quid with me those I can easily ignore those. I do care when someone I know who has already committed fraud uses my details when buying things.

SnaccidentsHappen · 01/10/2024 17:33

It could be as simple as someone has mistyped their number, happens all the time.

When they don't receive the verification code via sms they are maybe bypassing it by asking for it to be sent by email, hence them not realising they have input the incorrect number.

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 01/10/2024 17:34

Police? Fraud action line?

My phone number? I just block any unwanted calls or texts 🤷‍♀️ I don't really think of it as being personal data as such, the automated calls surely just click through the numbers till they get one that rings?

No it’s not an error I know who this person is and we are closely linked (family)

like I said you’ve missed the point but don’t worry other people have provided useful advice.

But all they have is your phone number. They can't do anything with that. They can't even buy what they want as they can't get verification texts.
You know who it is. If you're genuinely worried about them committing fraud with your details, then go to the police.
