To not want to age gracefully? Can anyone recommend an anti aging cream that actually works?

After kids I'm starting to age, I'm not very accepting of this fact. Can anyone recommend some products based off of personal experience and not fake reviews?

The only things proven to help are vitamin c, SPF, and tretinoin

SPF 50 every single day - I use Clinique City Block. I also always wear a hat in the sun and sit in the shade

Every day? Even in Winter??

I use spf on my face, neck and hands every day, even in winter. It does get washed off my hands pretty quickly and I don't tend to reapply, but yes, every day.

I like Ultra Violette Supreme Screen. I use serum, then a few drops of foundation mixed into the sunblock, and that's it.

I recently had the Visia skin analysis before a facial at the dermatologist and was told my skin was better than 94% of the people in my age group - I don't put much stock in its accuracy, but if it is better, I credit that in part at least to the daily sunscreen.

Yep! UVA is a factor year round - this is the type most associated with aging! UVB is stronger in the summer.

I agree with this.

Also, a tiny bit of Botox, tret, a decent led mask (with consistent use it gives a glow), a microneedling facial about every 3-4 months, collagen supplements and 10 mins a day of facial pilates/massage.

Am in awe of your dedication.
The led mask is by my bed😁

It's just biology.

Around age 30 your fibroblast cells start to deteriorate, and therefore reduce the production of elastin and collagen. Without these, your skin is less supported and will sag and wrinkle!

The rate can also depend on your genetics too.

But other than NEVER smoking cigarettes and limiting how much exposure your face gets to UV rays from the sun (which destroy the fibroblast cells and accelerate ageing) there is not huge amounts you can do.

Get enough sleep, always stay hydrated, use a UV based moisturiser.

I use a retinol serum which feels really lovely on the skin. I think it makes a slight difference.

Most products are aimed at disguising wrinkles. More "mature" skin needs different types of products, as lots of foundations will actually accentuate the wrinkles and make you look older!

Hah. My led was under the bed for about two years, but I finally decided that I had spent so much on it, I was going to get some bloody use out of it 😂

I try to do 15 minutes a day while listening to a news podcast and lying on my neck stretching thing. I probably succeed about 5x a week and it has actually made a small but noticeable difference.

@IcedPurple

If you read my post properly you will see that I use creams. The Vaseline on top of these helps their performance and the barrier created means the products are more effective than used on their own.

My skin is fantastic especially thanks to Vaseline.

is tretinoin not for acne? I see a lot of people saying its good

what about eye bags? any ideas what to do about these please x

Lentilweaver · 02/10/2024 12:48

Tretinoin is for both acne and anti aging. Marvellous for both.

It is for both, it made a big difference to my frown and laugh lines. So many expensive creams did absolutely nothing after months of use.

For the people that used my link to get the discounted Skin+me subscription for tretinoin-I hope you are as happy with it as I am!

Tret is wonderful when you're starting to age but still get a couple of spots once a month 😂 not had a spot since I started!

Always wear sun screen, use a gentle non-drying cleanser, vitamin C oil and a moisturiser that is happily absorbed by your skin will work wonders as you get older.
After treating my skin the same way I had since a teen, well into my 50’s, I discovered my own “holy grail” of products that work for me now - but I’m also aware that I might need to review this as I get (even) older!
Oh, and don’t discount cheaper brands of skincare either - check Amazon for the reviews. The cost of my daily base, oil, serum and day (spf-included) moisturiser plus overnight retinol cream is less than £60.00 per year!
I can now go out barefaced happily - something that I hadn’t been happy to do in over 45 years…

babyproblems · 02/10/2024 13:39

I really rate L’Oréal revitalift laser x3 cream. I think it’s the best cream I love ever used.
I also think you need to do a lot of exercise, eat well and drink 2L of water a day. Good luck!! Even then it will come for you.

I’ve been using either skin+me or Dermatica for 9 mths. My skin looks fantastic and the web of wrinkles I had on my cheek due to sleeping on my side has gone. I have persevered and applied it every night. I’ve also been applying a night cream afterwards as well as continuing with spf50 during the day.

I think the difference is very noticeable and get lots of compliments on my skin. I’m 49 and my skin is better than those a lot younger. If you’d like discount codes, here are two for either brand. Just keep monitoring how you’re tolerating the creams and contact the companies if they’re too slow in increasing the tret dose if you’re seeing no effects,

I used Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Serum when my neck and cheat were sun damaged. It worked.
The only problem with having a young looking face is that the rest of you will look your age. It’s kind of pointless trying too hard.

TakeMeToKernow · 02/10/2024 22:15

I’ve signed up to Skin+Me to give Tret a try, but they’ve responded to say I’ve got rosacea (!?) and they’ve sent me something else to treat this first, before I can try Tret.

It never occurred to me I had rosacea AND from friends with it I understood it couldn’t be cured 😵‍💫
