To not want to age gracefully? Can anyone recommend an anti aging cream that actually works?

After kids I'm starting to age, I'm not very accepting of this fact. Can anyone recommend some products based off of personal experience and not fake reviews?

Prescription strength retinal (tretinoin) - I also use Skin&Me - don’t bother with over the counter retinol.

SPF 50 every single day - I use Clinique City Block. I also always wear a hat in the sun and sit in the shade.

Vitamin C serum - I use Medik8.

Beyond those 3 things just use whichever cleanser/moisturiser you like - I like Elemis Superfood range, especially the cleanser in the orange pot.

No booze makes a difference too (not good at this one personally!). Eat good fats, drink water, exercise, but don’t jump about too much (causes sagging apparently). Sadly I think being very slim doesn’t help either - my sister is younger than me and also slimmer (she’s a 6, I am a 12/14 - we are the same height), but I LOOK younger, think the extra lbs help. She does look nicer in her clothes though - swings and roundabouts.

Nothing is going to stop you ageing and the most important this is to accept that. You will look older.

You can use Tret (i do) but its no miracle cure - it will slightly slow things down in terms of fine lines.

You can have botox but it will only halt or slow the appearance of fine lines where injected. Your skin will still age. You can end up with an uneven face if you are not careful. I have met two people actually managed to make themselves look older with injectables and fillers. I was genuinely surprised to find out their age. They looked to me like an older woman trying to make themselves look younger.

You can try surgery but again - when you see people its usually fairly obvious they have had surgery. You might prefer that look to ageing and that's fine.

It's genetics and staying out of the sun.

I use a cleansing balm, daydream, night cream and eye cream. Because I like it, I'm worth it and it pleases me. Probably does nothing for anti-aging but it has made my skin very soft.

And SR skincare for peels and creams that completely fade and remove age/sun spots

And Vaseline every night around eyes and mouth to prevent wrinkles forming.

Vaseline just coats the skin and forms a barrier, which is why it's used to prevent nappy rash.

In no way can it prevent wrinkles forming in the deep layers of the skin.

@maria2bela1

I tried a lot-nothing works. Yes your skin may look better and more hydrated but that could be with any regular routine.

The ONLY thing that made a difference is tretinoin. It was impressive, visible difference in a few days. Be careful to start low and up the precentage slowly.

As people keep metioning Skin+me is the best way I found in the UK to do it-love their applicator. I have a discount code if you decide to go for it: Discount link

Good luck, remember we are all on the same boat

lopdoo · 30/09/2024 13:53

I've given up on anti aging creams. Tret and injectables for something that actually works.

lopdoo · 30/09/2024 13:53

Oh and SPF

Maviz · 30/09/2024 14:01

Honestly no. Nothing works. Nothing can reverse the effects of ageing (in cream form anyway)

I started having Botox and I'm extremely glad I did!

StormingNorman · 30/09/2024 14:20

SPF30+ in the morning and retinol at night to help slow aging.

Vitamin C serum and moisturiser gives a more youthful glow. Dr Dennis Gross is amazing.

Avene Hydrating Serum plumps out the fine lines at the corner of the eyes. I only use it as an eye cream rather than all over.

AreYouBrandNew · 30/09/2024 14:25

Another vote for high spf and healthy lifestyle - vegetables, exercise, sleep

Lentilweaver · 30/09/2024 14:25

OTC retinol doesnt work for me at all. Only prescription Tret works.

SuperGreens · 30/09/2024 14:51

Im a big fan of Klira. Its another subscription based service, with prescription only ingredients. But you get a much more personalised product which works for me as I have very sensitive skin. My skin has never looks as good since I started with them, they'll even include ivermectin in your cream if you get rosacea.

iloveshetlandponies · 30/09/2024 15:02

Loads of water

SPF

Evening primrose taken as a supplement and also broken and used on the skin

Gua Sha

Micro needling facials every 1-3 months

GogAndMagog · 30/09/2024 17:21

Tretinojn,

I've also read about Estrogen cream.

Red light therapy,

Face yoga / massage. Look at Aysel on you tube.

Latter takes time and consistency!

MrsKwazi · 30/09/2024 17:27

SPF since your teenage years
genetics
no smoking
very easy on refined sugars
read what happens to collagen when estrogen goes
water and good food
don’t be too skinny. Jou need a bit of fat to plump you out.

PaminaMozart · 30/09/2024 23:51

Honestly, at the end of the day, functionality matters more than appearance.

I am 70 years old. When/if you get to this ripe old age, you'll care more about your health and your predicted life expectancy than your looks.

Look after your health and fitness.

I'm super fit. It takes a fair bit of effort. But it's totally worth it. And I actually enjoy it.

Botox and fillers. But cheap moisturiser and save the money for the doctory things. But do lots of research for a great practitioner.

KnittedCardi · 01/10/2024 12:28

SPF 50 every single day - I use Clinique City Block. I also always wear a hat in the sun and sit in the shade

Every day? Even in Winter??
