Those protestors actually make me feel even less bothered by climate change. I genuinely don't give a shit anymore.

Have they managed to convince anyone?

Who has become stressed and ill at the actions of JSO 😂😂

What stresses me and makes me ill are the rapid environmental changes, the flooding, the downpours and then months of drought and extreme heat not a couple of fannies throwing soup at a glass covered painting. I get stressed at people denying climate change or thinking to hell with the children and grandchildren they can sort out out mess they didn’t make so we don’t have to change anything about our lives.

Well, me, I've become stressed. I need to cross a river to get to my kids' school. JSO have been active there and blocked traffic and fucked the whole city. Every time I took my kids to their GCSEs and A Levels, I was stressed that JSO would have blocked my route and that my kids wouldn't get to take the qualifications they worked so hard for. I'm not sure why you put laughing faces.

And ill...well you know the poor bastards they stopped from getting to their oncology appointments? Who then got appointments delayed by weeks/months whilst the cancer partied?

Oil is produced to manufacture all kinds. Like, for example, the phone/tablet/computer you've just used to type that message that's made in China. Tell me, how did it make it all the way from there?

Exactly- planes, cars, ships. Still some heating but that is being reduced.

Regardless of what JSO did/do/will do, the harm caused by climate breakdown outstrips by an inordinate amount. I’m not commenting on the rights or wrongs of their actions, but really what should be making us all ill and stressed is the instability we/our children will face due to climate breakdown. Food insecurity, climate related migration, more extreme and dangerous weather events and increases in mortality and disease. All of these things are already starting to happen (even here in the U.K.) and are getting worse.

schloss · 28/09/2024 22:36

SodaFountainMountain · 28/09/2024 21:41

But most of the stuff that we do and buy, that burns fossil fuels, is unnecessary. We should be minimising oil use to the absolute essentials. Consuming less is the key action.

You stop using all the things and processes which use fossil fuel if you think they are unnecessary, and see how many there are but I am sure you can do without them all, some of the rest of us will just get on with life.

The short term thinking of people here is ridiculous. Roads being blocked by protesters, people not getting to hospital. These are short term things you can get around.

Personally I think it’s depressing people can’t see beyond this for future generations, YOUR future generation and relatives. Or do you not care that those people will suffer?

Could we say that for any terrorism or crime then?

Well I murdered one person but thats nothing compared to the floods killing millions, so I havent really caused a lot of harm relatively speaking

but people seem to forget that also by the time we get to this future, science could of already solved the climate crisis etc

AlmondsAreGreat · 28/09/2024 23:24

They’d be better off training to become scientists and engineers, and researching ways to get us off our reliance on fossil fuels, than lobbing soup at paintings or sitting in the road. It would have far greater practical impact.

Climate refugeeism is how the UK (or what it was at the time) became populated. Thats why you're here

Whats the problem?

The world will survive. Humans might not, humans are not different to any otgher species on the planet, either now or in the past. Some survive and some dont.

Can you begin to imagine the generations of human suffering and misery you are summing up in those trite sentences? The famine and the fires and the floods and the horror and the warfare? Do you not think it might be worthwhile trying to stop that?

MasterBeth · 28/09/2024 23:33

They could have. Or they could not have.

You're willing to take that gamble, are you?

yes because earth is so yesterday, the future of humanity is in the stars the sooner humanity can expand to the stars then we can leave earth prime behind and build an empire for humanity in space

Allfur · 28/09/2024 23:39

savannahowl · 28/09/2024 16:32

They're ruining stuff that has actual human value.

Why don't they blow up a polyester factory or something actually damaging to the environment?

They're so annoying.

Ruining stuff that has actual human value? There's been a lot of that happening recently from floods

MasterBeth · 28/09/2024 23:40

MasterBeth · 28/09/2024 23:40

when there is whole galaxies of planets, why should humans just stay on earth, ? where is the point of it or logic especially if we develop the tech to fly airplanes then why not develop space craft etc ?

MasterBeth · 28/09/2024 23:49

Feel free to explore space as much as you like. There's no need to fuck up the Earth to do so.

yea well, that was not modern society that started it, it was the industrialisation of society that did all the damage first so thank your ancestors for that

They damage art I care about. If I supported their thinking I would not support their methods. They render themselves irrelevant

How do they 'fuck a whole city', given lots of city dwellers dont use cars - they walk, cycle and use public transport- tad exaggeration, no?

Along side, and I believe created before the suffragettes were the suffragists who campaigned for womens votes but did not use the same tactics. Non violence and not pissing people sometimes will achieve far more.

I'm sure you'd like to think so Smile

PuppiesLove · 29/09/2024 00:13

If anything, they have caused me to have less sympathy for the cause. Where I once might have listened if they'd wanted to talk on the street, I'd just say 'no thanks' now.

It's not all short term. Not being able to get to hospital with my last birth could have killed me. That's not short term for my family.

Absolutely. Although I don’t agree with the way JSO protest - people think of oil, they think cars, planes, heating . People don’t realise that no oil means no by- products of oil which means by and large no plastics. Our healthcare systems use vast amounts of plastics- the drips, the mri machines, syringes, tubes, bottles for blood, it’s an endless list, hospitals are full of plastics. With out fossil fuels there will be no computers, no phones, no man made fibres, no cars, no planes, no steel. No non-organic fertiliser. This is a big one. We have about 20 years to learn to grow our crops using organic fertilisers. Can organic fertilisers even support our current population?
Known oil reserves will run out in the 2050s. To dig deeper will cost more and more. The price of oil gets higher and higher. At this point countries with lots of oil like Russia, America, Saudi will start hoarding. Europe is in trouble because we are already reliant on other countries for our supply. If we keep good relations with the major suppliers and we act urgently, we have maybe 20 years to adapt to the loss of oil, but we need to wake up now.
