Child identifies as a wolf ... WTF?

Portakalkedi · 27/09/2024 12:15

Just on Radio 4 now, discussing a child in secondary school who identifies as a wolf, and the school is going along with this. AIBU to think the world (or at least the UK) has gone mad? If said child is living in the woods, catching its own prey etc etc, howling and running with other wolves, which I doubt, then why the hell is anyone going along with it? They are also saying that some others identify as dogs or cats etc. And here was me thinking men 'identifying' as women was bad.

And you’ve taken the bait to become outraged at it and use it for TERFy nonsense. You are the ridiculous one, sweetie 😘

Sounds like a lot of nonsense used to fuel & justify transphobia .. which appears to be rife in this thread!

EXACTLY, glad to see at least a few people on Mumsnet aren’t absolutely nasty human beings.

Quite literally from the very first page

Can't see it, can you quote it?

Brood · 28/09/2024 18:43

This is what happens when you open the door to allowing a person’s perception to conflate with reality. How is this any different to a biological man saying he is a woman? People have the right to identify in any way they wish, but when they become entitled by power structures to force others to see their self perception as reality, the world become a mess. What will we have next the worlds of science and medicine being forced to change their language to accommodate those who identify as animals? Forcing vets to see humans who identify as cats?

There needs to be a distinct separation between biological and scientific reality and the beliefs people have about themselves. No matter how much I want to identify as a 7 foot giant, or as a teenager as a grown woman - these are no biological facts

What posts are you referring to when you talk about 'nasty human beings' ?

TheKeatingFive · 28/09/2024 18:54

If people are going to throw around accusations, can they please back up their points with evidence.

Thanks

CassieMaddox · 28/09/2024 18:58

Yes! I agree! I would love to see some evidence children are identifying as cats at school.
The linked podcast didn't find any and talked a lot about teenagers identifying with animals, rather than as animals.

It's all a bit of an urban myth apparently

MischkasMum · 28/09/2024 19:06

What a load of pure and utter 💩💩💩! And let's face it, the pupils are ripping the same 💩 out of teachers/school. Because, let's face it. First and foremost, a wolf is a WILD ANIMAL and would not be anywhere near humans, never mind in a fucking school. Dogs and cats also have no place in a school; we all know where the would/should be. It's about time this pish was nipped in the bud. Small children identifying as the opposite gender is bad enough. This wolf/animal business is on another level completely.

anxioussister · 28/09/2024 19:08

When you all being so gloriously outraged by it all then I assure you teenagers will find something else. Maybe try making it a non issue. See how quickly they try tattoos or satanism again instead 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Roboticleg · 28/09/2024 19:11

in my primary school i was friends with someone who claimed to be a vampire, weirdest thing that happened was that on a day this had not even been mentioned he didnt enter my house until i said “well come in then” only after i realised the horror of letting a vamp in. This was 25odd years ago

Yep. I missed that one. Duh

Should have read it again FURst

I fucking despair, honestly, why have adults lost the ability to tell children NO? We already have a generation of spoiled, idle and indulged brats as a result of 'gentle' (ie lazy) parenting.

Speak for yourself. All the kids in our extended family and friend circle were/are all hardworking, respectful and ambitious. Not all necessary academics but all have a strong work ethic.

It's a shame people like you write off a whole generation of kids like that. It must be difficult for them to hear/read that all the time.

I'm sure there are some, but nowhere near as many as the Daily Mail brigade will have us believe.

Throwawaygh · 28/09/2024 19:23

I don’t get the whole kids being allowed to identify as animals, but the transphobia on this thread is appalling. Does it actually impact any of you if someone identifies as a different gender to the one they were born? Honestly they’re not asking you to donate your womb or anything, just live and let live!

It would be good if you could reference the transphobia you are talking about.

However in a more general sense, men thinking they have the right to access women's single sex spaces - prisons, shelters, changing rooms - does impact women, yes. Astonishing that this needs to be pointed out.

The world has gone bonkers... Maybe the school cook should offer up a dead rabbit and tell them to eat it all up or they will get detention..

Or offer up a live one, set it loose on the playing field, and tell them to go fetch.

Lourdes12 · 28/09/2024 19:28

The idea probably came from one of teenage vampire movies/series

WilliamsMe123 · 28/09/2024 19:30

This thread is putting me off Mumsnet. I didn’t realise how many gross people were on here looking for something to be nasty about. Agreed with @GiddyDuck.

This is using an unrelated story about a kid who dresses up as a wolf and being linked to Trans people which the ‘phobes’ are lapping up.

Gotta be honest, you’re the ones sexualising it all too? When I was younger I loved rabbits and I used to crinkle my nose like a rabbit cause I thought it was cool. Let’s all stay calm and kind and not get riled up by clickbait.

Hortic07 · 28/09/2024 19:32

The reality is, if someone identifies as a helium balloon, they will not float away.

TheKeatingFive · 28/09/2024 19:37

Look, I understand that people don't want to believe that their fellow humans are into this shit, but it doesn't take much investigation to confirm that adults getting sexual kicks out of animal cosplay exist. Unfortunately.

'Gross' 'nasty' 'phobes' - you're the one calling people names. Can't you be kind?

mitogoshigg · 28/09/2024 19:44

@Portakalkedi

You hit the nail on the head, parents don't want to use the word no. Starts with the gentle parenting when what kids need are fair but firm boundaries. Having fun dressing up even as a teen is ok but parents need to be clear, no you are not a wolf/dog/cat/whatever you are just pretending and no you don't wear your play clothes to school!

mitogoshigg · 28/09/2024 19:49

By the way, to those saying it's made up, there were two terms at the gig I was at yesterday wearing cat ears and a tail with normal clothes, mind you there were assorted spidermen, Princesses and members of paw patrol too, the difference I suppose was that the others were preschool aged!

Maray1967 · 27/09/2024 12:39

I’ve heard of an American family who dealt with this with their tween by building an outside enclosure out of scrap wood and chicken wire and chucking some raw meat and telling the tween that if they’re a wolf that is where they will live.

On the other hand, if they want to sleep in the bedroom and have pizza on Saturday night, then they are a child and will dress and behave like one.

Apparently that solved the problem.

Exactly what I would do. Surely it's the only thing that makes sense?

Pupinskipops · 28/09/2024 20:19

I totally get identifying as a different gender to that you were assigned at birth, but a wolf? Nope. My brother in law is a dippy hippy who dresses as trees and whatnot to go to stonehenge. He says his first wife was a raven. Frickn dipsht!
