Fruit and prices in France vary by season, cauliflowers between one Euro and 7.50!

Yes stuff has gone up. But a hell of a lot of wages have too.5 years ago my cleaner charged £11 an hour.... now she charged £17. 5 years ago I earned £95k now I earn £150k.

Wage inflation goes hand in hand with rising prices. I don't really get why people are surprised.

While here in public services we had a pay freeze for neigh on 10yrs and our pay increase the last 2yrs has been a lump sum offer of around £1400.

Go you 🙄

Dried porcini £3 for 10g makes them £300 per kg

Four rolls of kitchen roll.

£8

Standard sadly.

I love the idea that your average salary has risen by the same magnitude as £95k to £150k.

I am in the public sector in a highly specialist but not very promotable role and my pay has deflated in real terms over the last five years.

I actually earn less than I did 10 years ago due to loss of out of hours payments.

Aldi fruit/ veg not lasting - Good lord, I avoid buying fruit there because it never ripens 😂 Yesterday I ate an apple that's been in the fridge for two months, it was just ready to eat!

On the plus side, my crispy salad that I opened four days ago and is three days out of date is still fresh. Your Aldi can't be getting its produce from Immortal Farms like mine.

Aldi fruit and veg is very variable store to store in my experience, presumably due to storage conditions.
I'm lucky my local and favourite Aldi has fabulous fruit and veg, last longer than Asda and cheaper and better than Morrisons.
If the Aldi you usually use doesn't provide great fruit and veg, try a different Aldi before you give up.

Because not all of us get pay rises like yours.

Same price In Spain!

Julen7 · 28/09/2024 09:51

Cadbury’s hot chocolate £4.50 in Tesco, I can remember when it was £2 something.

That would involve driving longer and spending more on petrol.. I have switched to Sainsbury’s and Aldi match and honestly don’t spend any more. It’s better for the environment too which Aldi scores low in., They sell Ecover, recycled toilet paper, better packaging and better quality meat and eggs which are low welfare at Aldi.

Asda has just put their basics/essential natural fat-free yoghurt up from 35p for 500ml to 55p for 500ml.

Still not expensive, but that is one hell of a rise in % terms.

Has it? Bugger, that’s a frequent buy for the dogs, standard for settling stomachs if they’ve overdone the grass.

Just seen Blitz ln the Original Factory shop 3 rolls for £4.

Teddybear23 · 28/09/2024 13:18

Work for the NHS, (admin/reception) £11.44/hr☹️ all these price increases are definitely having an impact on me.

Augustus40 · 28/09/2024 13:43

I always shop at Home Bargains first. Kitchen roll and loo roll much cheaper.

Haha! I've seen some stealth boasts on here in my time but that deserves some kind of award! 😁

Scotland32 · 28/09/2024 16:21

Plant based eco Sellotape £4 in M&S.
Almost bought it but then changed my mind.
Got the exact same thing in Home Bargains for 99p.

Teapigs have always had stupid prices. What I can't understand is who the hell buys them?

I buy their herbal teabags directly from them. Much more reasonably priced than the supermarkets and free delivery is easily reached. For proper tea I buy Yorkshire from B&M.

Ilovetea33 · 28/09/2024 17:28

£5.50 for local honey is very good value for money though. For that price, you usually get a product with the origin described as "European and non-European countries".

Alipuss · 28/09/2024 18:01

I saw a Charlie Brigham lasagne ready meal for £9.50 today in Sainsburys. I couldn’t believe it! I only looked like it would feed one person too! I was gobsmacked.

BetterOffDeadWillNeverFindAMan · 28/09/2024 18:09

It hasn’t gone ‘hand in hand’ though. There wouldn’t be a COL crisis if it had.

And I don’t think your cleaner is very representative. Sounds like they’ve put their rate up because they know the likes of you can afford it!

He’s only paying his cleaner more, due to that’s the minimum rate for a hourly clean And yes agree, it isn’t a true representation, due to it not being comparative, to his salary.

Sainsbury's. Small tub of Cadbury's instant hot chocolate powder. £4 !
(£2.25 in B+M)

I know Italy didn't have a good olive harvest this year so I think that may have upped prices.

I think I'd better guard my small olive tree with my life and put it in the greenhouse for the winter, it has a few olives on at the moment. At this rate I'll be able to sell them for a quid each!
