Or Dennis Taylor for that matter.

I'm talking about the ludicrously OTT spectacle frames that seem to be de rigueur for women these days.

Men don't seem to be encouraged to hide their gasp aging face behind overly large spectacle frames. Why are women being conned into it? It looks daft!

I'm in my 30s and wear chunky plastic frames and have for at least 10 years now. They fit my lens better and I love them. I dreading the fashion moving back to stupid thin metal tbh.
They are fun, funky and as I have to wear the bloody things all day to be able to see ... why not chose something bold?

Maviz · 24/09/2024 01:45

Yep there are a lot of offended people who clearly wear this type of frame on this thread.

I agree with you OP, on the whole they're awful but I do quite like the palm tree ones.

tolerable · 24/09/2024 01:47

did they tho?

Those who think I'm being mean, it's far meaner to think that women have to hide their faces behind a massive pair of glasses as soon as they hit 40

But you seem to be the only person interpreting things like that. Yes there are lots of big bright frames but there's even more smaller ones. It's all down to personal choice. Noones being fired to hide their face

BobbyBiscuits · 24/09/2024 02:12

I remember one woman I knew through a training course always wore very 'vibrant' 80s style snooker players waistcoats. She had a different one for three days a week. She had a slightly taylor style haircut as well for some reason..
I am now imagining she was wearing garish upside down glasses as well?

Thistooshallpass24 · 24/09/2024 02:19

@Totallymessed clearly you are due some new (big) glasses 🤓

If you like them carty on wearing them. You don't have to change them just because some magazines tells you the fashion has changed.

GeneralOwl · 24/09/2024 07:35

I love big glasses.
I have always worn them, the bigger and the sillier the better.
This is a conscious choice because if I to wear glasses, which I hate having to do, at least I’m going to wear ones that make me smile and stuff what everyone else thinks.

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 24/09/2024 07:38

What glasses do you wear op?

SilverPuffin · 24/09/2024 07:43

Meh, I spent my teens, twenties and thirties giving far too much of a shit what everyone else thought rather than what I wanted.
Now in my 40s I have the confidence to wear what I like and what makes me happy. Nothing to do with being conned into hiding my face. Life’s a lot easier when you stop caring about weird judgements others might be making about you.

Aussieland · 24/09/2024 07:44

Exactly.

Why do you presume it’s to hide their face? That seems like you overlaying your sexist values on women who are wearing what they want

Agree

Underlig · 24/09/2024 07:46

I like the look. It’s not a middle aged thing, it’s just the glasses fashion now. Lots of young women have them too.

Jjiillkkf · 24/09/2024 07:47

Haha, yes I've thought the same. Giant yellow frames. Wtf.

Comedycook · 24/09/2024 07:49

Gowlett · 23/09/2024 21:36

I hate them! Worn with that neon resin statement jewellery (earrings or necklace) plus toddler-style printed cotton jumpsuit / dungarees. And Birkenstocks or coloured DMs.

I cringe so much when I see adults wear dungarees.

Notonthestairs · 24/09/2024 07:49

Or maybe they have alternative inspirations.

In my case my varifocals meant I needed a larger frame.

SwiftiesVSLestat · 24/09/2024 07:50

Wow! How dare women wear something they like and something they pick for themselves because other people might lot like them.

Bizarre that this aimed at women specifically. Do you get this bothered when men wear something you don’t like?

Comedycook · 24/09/2024 07:50

In terms of the glasses I do quite like them. I actually think now there are so many cheap places online to get glasses you can get many different pairs to go with different outfits/,looks..

SisterAgatha · 24/09/2024 07:51

I’ve worn glasses my entire life and put up with belittling and ridiculous comments from people when I am literally just trying to see.

I’ll wear what I like. When did being a judgmental bully become fashionable. Oh it didn’t.

Coulditbeperimenopause · 24/09/2024 07:52

It's the Dennis Nielsen school of glasses that's in fashion now I don't understand. I like the bright frames, it's nice to see colour.

ssd · 24/09/2024 07:53

I don't think women who wear these glasses are trying to hide their faces, or hide behind them?

Are you on the wind up op??

We aren’t. They are visual aids.

would anyone here comment on the fashion of someone’s prosthetic leg? No.

Would they say it looked daft or ridiculous? No.

i thought we were past “four eyes” comments but it seems we are not .

SisterAgatha · 24/09/2024 07:55

Quick! All the high school bullies rush to edit their comments and post a “be kind” quote on Facebook.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 24/09/2024 07:59

I guess by middle age women just get to the stage where they think " Fuck off you judgemental, bullying twat, I'd like to be able to see the world with peripheral vision included."
