Showers - what type of person are you?

This is lighthearted btw.

Dh won't do anything until he's had a shower in the morning. Not even have breakfast, take a bin bag out, put a wash load on. Absolutely nothing at all. It's not a problem, but sometimes I might ask him to do something small in the house and he says he can't because he hasn't had a shower.

Like I say it isn't a problem, but let's say we unexpectedly run out of milk, he wouldn't throw some clothes on and nip to the corner shop, even though it's a 30 second walk.

I otoh do have a shower every day, but if I'm not going out anywhere I might potter about for a bit first. I might do a workout or some cleaning first or make breakfast. I'd even drop one of the dc off if they were going out early morning then have a shower afterwards.

Why would you shower then do the bins? That makes no sense. If I'm doing household chores I'll do them first then shower. I tend to shower and put on clean clothes just before I leave the house.

I don't know anyone like your dh (afaik). It seems really strange to me to care whether you shower before or after doing those things.

Evaka · 23/09/2024 18:59

I would say he's very unusual. Is he particularly sleepy until he's showered or is it a hygiene/germ fear thing?

Edited to add: I don't shower every day. Probably every second day and wash hair twice a week. Skin can't take daily hard London water.

GigiAnnna · 23/09/2024 18:59

I'll will shower first thing on weekdays. Weekends I might have breakfast and potter round before I have a shower but not for long. I like to be clean, dressed and made up for the day even if I'm not doing much. It's just the way I am, I don't feel right without it.

Precipice · 23/09/2024 19:06

Do you really need these things so urgently that they can't wait until after his shower? It doesn't seem like he's using the shower as a delaying tactic in the sense of lying around pre-shower 'no, I can't do that, I haven't had my shower!' yet, if you're saying he won't do anything.

I would put a wash on if it's bedsheets (I want them dry for the evening, so do this early), but generally would start the day with a shower. I wouldn't be doing the things you list in your final paragraph (except maybe if I had a DC who was desperately whining about being starved and too young to make anything for themselves.)

I have little appetite in the morning. It's much better for me to wait a while after getting up, as if I eat too soon I find a gag reflex kicks in quickly and I struggle to eat.

Cattery · 23/09/2024 19:24

Potter about drinking tea and tidying up but always a shower and hair wash before I leave the house. Always

Same

poetryandwine · 23/09/2024 19:38

I am a bit embarrassed to say I am with your DH. It’s to wake up.

HeddaGarbled · 23/09/2024 19:42

I’m with your DH too. I just feel grubby and smelly until I’ve had my shower and put clean clothes on.

DeepBlueSeas · 23/09/2024 19:46

I take a shower when I have a free slot in my day/eve! I have dds school run in the morning and a very energetic toddler to look after.
My showers are either at night when they’ve both gone to sleep or I shower when ds is having his nap in the day.

BendingSpoons · 23/09/2024 19:47

I shower in the evening mostly but when I do shower in the morning I prefer to do it first thing. I don't really like being in my pyjamas or dressing gown but I don't want to get dressed to get undressed again. I wouldn't go to the corner shop without a bra on for instance, but putting it on to take it off in 5 mins would be very annoying!

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/09/2024 19:47

I won't shower until after I've used the toilet in the fullest sense, and that won't ever happen until I've had a cup of tea and been upright for 30 minutes or so.

There's no way on earth I would ever walk straight from bed into the shower.

halava · 23/09/2024 19:47

Does he do the tasks after his shower? If so that's fine, if not and he knows you will instead, not fine.

I am a potterer. I'm retired so get up and washed when I feel like it, or when I have to go out somewhere. I have been known to stay in my PJs all day and skip the shower that day. That would be on a cold dark Winter day with no plans to go out or see anyone. I worked for donkeys years and can basically do what I like now.

IsThisCluttered · 23/09/2024 19:50

I have a new job this year with an earlier start & I have discovered the joy of showering at night just before bed.

I LOVE it - work is done, dinner is done, housework is done & I have a lovely hot shower with all my nice products

I wash my hair every second night & I have time to let it dry naturally. I can use body lotion & I'm relaxed & not rushing. I do my face skincare & use some perfume & it feels great hopping into bed with my books.

I'm a total convert as it gives much longer in bed in the mornings & far less rushing

IDontLikePinaColadas · 23/09/2024 19:52

I’m with your DH I’m afraid. I will make tea and go back to bed in my pjs but after that I have to have a shower and “get ready” before I do anything else.

Oh that's interesting as I'm the same (toilet) but also won't do anything else other than brushing teeth before showering. Every day, without fail.

Got to have a routine. 😂

JumpstartMondays · 23/09/2024 19:57

I used to be the same as your DH, down to a full face of makeup to nip out for the milk 😂

Then I had kids. I shower before bed every day now and just throw clothes on in the morning whenever I roll out of bed

diddl · 23/09/2024 19:57

I tend to get up shower, dressed, breakfast, out with dog.

I would pop a bin bag out or sort washing beforehand though.

Don't potter much before out with dog though!

MereDintofPandiculation · 23/09/2024 19:57

Like I say it isn't a problem, but let's say we unexpectedly run out of milk, he wouldn't throw some clothes on and nip to the corner shop, even though it's a 30 second walk. I wouldn’t either. I hate getting dressed and undressed again.

A two minute shower is trivial compared to the time it takes me to get dressed, brush hair, clean teeth, and otherwise make myself presentable.

Warmwoolytights · 23/09/2024 20:02

Up, loo, teeth, shower, dress. I really dislike being up and not clean and dressed. I sleep naked too so I actively have to put something on to be up at all so I might as well wash and put clothes on.

unsync · 23/09/2024 20:41

Get up, shower and dress. Otherwise I feel like a slob. Even if I'm off to the gym and will shower again after my workout.

What's in your bins that you need to shower after dealing with them? Surely a hand-wash is sufficient?

DillyDallySal · 23/09/2024 20:47

I can understand your DH to be honest, although I like to go for a quick run first thing before the shower. Otherwise, I’m the same.

Well I don’t think number will like my way either because I bath at night just before bed and then shower in the morning.

The evening bath is more of a boiling hot soak and falling asleep ritual. I then moisturise after and fell lovely for bed.

i exercise in the morning (very quickly) and then shower / wash hair etc for the day.

Cannot relate to people who don’t enjoy washing daily but then such if life! We’re all different and that’s just dandy with me.

DillyDallySal · 23/09/2024 20:49

A@unsync wait, shower before and after workout??? Right I take it back, that’s thrown me! 😂

Haha this is me too.

Probably why I like to potter a bit first gives me chance to go to the toilet.

Should he not male it his business to shower as soon as he gets up then?

That is, assuming he wants to pull his weight around the house...
