Labour voters - do you regret voting for them?

They got off to a really bad start and it's just gone downhill ever since. Within a couple of weeks we practically had martial law, we've had riots you name it. Law and order has completely broken down. They've cut the pensioners fuel allowance and all the while they've had their snouts in the trough. 2 tier Keir approval rating has fallen off a cliff - the country has had enough already lol.

Aibu to think that those who voted them in should apologise.

True, the list is impressive. Strikes ended, abortion clinic buffer zones brought in, WFA means tested (yes, I see this as a positive), Rwanda scheme ditched, constructive dialogue with the EU, restoration of workers' rights. All good stuff. Let's see what the budget brings.

😂😂😂

Edited to add: dialogue with EU was especially productive - Starmer was told to jog off... according to all media, incl FT

Slinky1460 · 27/09/2024 14:21

I couldn't stomach voting for either of the two main parties so my vote went to the person I believed would better represent our community.

Labour will only get another term if the Conservatives fail to put a strong person at the helm. The people who have put themselves up for that role will damage the party even further.

nearlylovemyusername · 27/09/2024 14:24

@Slinky1460 agree completely, but there is another, much scarier, scenario - electorate will be so frustrated with both that I can fully anticipate Reform getting substantial numbers.

Starmer promised to give vote to 16yo who are usually pro Labour. Well, given TikTok, Reform actually led in this category

I completely agree with this!
If labour and conservatives can’t get their shit together, then nothing good will come from voters’ desperation and anger.

At least he's trying, unlike the previous government. I would love it if the Labour Party abandoned their Brexit voters and stopped being timid in the face of their stupid wing. Until that day, we'll have to make do with what crumbs we can get. It's better than the Tories with their insistence on British Crumbs Only.

nearlylovemyusername · 27/09/2024 15:02

At least he's trying

Is he though? My conclusion is that there are two scenarios:

  • he's either paying a lip service knowing full well what concessions are needed to make new agreements with EU and he'll never make them. So everyone can say "at least he tried but those EU baddies..."
  • or he's incompetent if he doesn't know the rules of the game (don't want to question his intelligence)

I don't think it's either of those. I think it's ongoing fear of the Lexiters. He needs to find the guts to bin them and I hope he will. Until then, softening them up will have to do. Brexit was the single most stupid thing this country ever did and it's going to be difficult to fix, in part because so many people still have exceptionality delusions of superiority about being British.

Plenty that’s she’s written about the violent offenders being released is true.

I’m sure Labour started off saying no one in prison for violent crimes would be let out early; so we all went along with it. Then it turns out they are letting violent criminals out early. And we still have people defending this.

It’s pretty disgusting.

"I’m sure Labour started off saying no one in prison for violent crimes would be let out early"

Are you?

"So we all went along with it"

Really? That was the main thing people voted about, was it?

And has this problem suddenly emerged the last few weeks?

Or did Sunk call the election at that weird time precisely to avoid the problem that everyone knew was coming and that his party had create?

Honestly, I don't want to be rude, but the people I've interacted with on this thread...

Mumsnet used to be at a decent level of conversation and debate; when did all the Daily Mail and Express readers come in?

Menopausalsourpuss · 28/09/2024 00:04

It's not really an argument to say the tories were crap so Labour must be better. They are both terrible and I have never felt so depressed about the state of the country and my children's future. I personally think the pm and cabinet should be paid alot more to attract people of a much higher calibre than the likes of Starmer, Raynes, Reeves and Lammy - I have just read on twitter that the leader of Singapore earns ten times more and it shows.

You might be ok with them releasing very violent offenders early after explicitly saying they would not.

Many people are not.

We’re not stupid for thinking differently to you.

This is precisely the attitude that repulses me about Labour. You’re not the good guys.

CoatRack · 28/09/2024 07:31

I for one am very pleased with how this new government is going, and all accomplished in just a couple of months:

-Fewer proles at the private schools.
-Rental yields soon to go up.
-Unlimited Ukrainian casualties.
-Future asset yields due to further increase.
-Thought crime for wrongthinkers.
-Fewer boomer pensions (genius!).
-Sausages returning.
-Support working-class interests (ban smoking, ban pints etc).
-Plugging the tax gap from electric cars.
-Outstanding gear for PM and wife.
-Penthouses proven as best for GCSEs.

Utopia is just around the corner 🤞😁

beeloubee · 28/09/2024 07:42

Much prefer labour to the previous vile government. I like labour's ideas and keir is doing a good job.

Menopausalsourpuss · 28/09/2024 11:55

There's no arguing with stoopid.

MeadowL · 29/09/2024 08:39

Oh my what a week it's been for Labour.

I'm absolutely loving this lol.

@JandLandG Well, under Blair Labour sold UKs Gold reserves. That was definitely a bad decision.
Findings into Iraq war (Chlicot Report)...

The Tories gave us Brexit...IMO the greatest act of delusion and self-harm ever inflicted on us.
I'd like to see the likes of Gove, Johnson and Farage done for treason. They destroyed the country for personal gain.

The country voted for brexit.

We didn’t vote to sell our gold.

The country did not vote for Brexit. 37% of the electorate did and a substantial proportion of them are now dead.

And what proportion of the electorate voted for labour this summer?

At what age should people not be allowed to vote anymore?

In that case, we didn’t vote for Labour either.

Brexit was a binary. Yes/no or don’t vote.
pita a bit different with multiple parties, plus there was a lot of tactical voting - I know lots of Labour voters voted Lib Dem where that was the best way to get rid of a Tory.
‘What a week’ you say@MeadowL ? Fabricated scandal and a hypocrite resigning after not voting against the WFA removal and having access to all the info about gifts before the election. Didnt resign over Abbott until after she’s reinstated. Didn’t mind taking Labour money to campaign or borrowing the name in an election where they were the favourites, but resigns now? If I were one of her constituents and had voted Labour I’d be very, very pissed off. She should resign outright, call a by election and stand as an independent.
Honestly, if you are looking for serious hypocrisy in MPs elected for Labour this time, Duffield is it.

That’s not what she resigned about. If it were, she’d have done it pre election. My view is irrelevant. Address the hypocrisy I’ve pointed out, not an imagined crusade you’ve made up.
