Labour voters - do you regret voting for them?

They got off to a really bad start and it's just gone downhill ever since. Within a couple of weeks we practically had martial law, we've had riots you name it. Law and order has completely broken down. They've cut the pensioners fuel allowance and all the while they've had their snouts in the trough. 2 tier Keir approval rating has fallen off a cliff - the country has had enough already lol.

Aibu to think that those who voted them in should apologise.

Anything is better than those twats we had in power before. Anything.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 23/09/2024 13:34

Still happy with my vote.

ThreeFeetTall · 23/09/2024 13:39

I don't think you know what martial law is.

cookiedough174 · 23/09/2024 13:40

Of course you're being unreasonable to ask labour voters for an apology 😅

I don't regret voting labour. It's interesting how the tabloids and non labour supporters have seemingly forgotten the absolute shit show that was the Tory party beforehand!!!!

dammit88 · 23/09/2024 13:40

OMG this gets asked here everyday! go away tory bots!

No they do not need to apologise.

We live in a democracy and people can vote for who ever they like.

I did not vote for any of the major parties, I'm disillusioned with all of them.

I would like it if Labour voters weren't quite so fucking sanctimonious though.

ivykaty44 · 23/09/2024 13:44

They haven’t cut the winter fuel allowance benefit from any pensioner on means test benefits, so housing benefit with £16000 in bank and you can still get WFA

why should pensioners, 27% are millionaires be scrounging off the tax payer?

it’s the correct thing to do

thry e also altered renting and landlords for the better

LadyKenya · 23/09/2024 13:44

I have nothing to apologise for, thank you. I am not expecting an apology from those who voted for you know who either.

scalt · 23/09/2024 13:45

The media is Tory-owned: of course it's going to say that Labour are rubbish. They did not point out the Tory corruption which was so obvious, that they didn't bother to hide it. Saint Boris received far more "gifts" than Starmer. And so far, I'd still much rather have wet fish Starmer than the clown show we had before.

Labour are doing the unpopular stuff first: this is a well-known political strategy. Granted, it has been commented on that they are overplaying the gloom.

Favouritefruits · 23/09/2024 13:45

I do not regret voting labour at all! I’d vote the same way next time too.

cardibach · 23/09/2024 13:45

They didn’t get off to a bad start. They’ve done lots I really approve of. I’ve got reservations about the level WFA stops, but it shouldn’t be universal and that’s the only thing they’ve done I disagree with. ‘Snouts in the trough’? Really? In comparison with the last lot? Where was your outrage then?
Do I think it would look better if they didn’t take gifts? Yes. However they haven’t broken any rules - I’d like them to change the rules so gifts are not allowed going forward though.
No, I don’t regret my vote.
No, I don”t think Labour voters should apologise. I do think those continuing to vote Tory for 14 years should though.

StrawberrySquash · 23/09/2024 13:45

I voted for the party that was the better of the twos who were realistically going to win. That hasn't changed. Not sure I've ever been wildly enthusiastic about a government and I was 17 when Blair was elected.

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 23/09/2024 13:47

Law and order has completely broken down.

Has it though?

Butterflyfern · 23/09/2024 13:48

Yet another thread...

Nope, I don't regret my vote, and am in favour of a number of the things they've started to put in place

NewNameNumber43 · 23/09/2024 13:48

Good grief, OP!

I’ve never voted Labour in my life (and am unlikely to), but they’ve been in for 5 minutes! They need time to bed in and find their stride before a sensible verdict can be reached on their performance!

ToniFire · 23/09/2024 13:48

I'm sure some will soon do so, if not already.

There was a remarkable statistic a while ago, the reasons why people gave for voting for Labour. The majority had said "to get the Tories out", whereas only 5% had voted Labour because they actually agreed with their policies! Talk about not knowing what you're voting for.

As ever, it's far easier to be in opposition and talk about what you would do (or do differently than the nasty people in charge) than it is to be in power. And probably a growing number of people who fell for that narrative will soon realise that they're actually not really any better than the Tories they wanted out.

DollopOfFun · 23/09/2024 13:49

Nope, not at all.

Whyherewego · 23/09/2024 13:50

Nope.
I think they've royally messed up a couple of things.
But roll back a few months and how many messups did we have under the previous administration....

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 23/09/2024 13:52

No, not at all.

I don’t think they have had a bad start. They’ve been left with an almighty mess, the likes of which we’ve never seen before. And the Tories knew they were leaving them with it!

What stuns me is the media campaign against them from the word go - mainstream media as well as social media. It’s been astounding - they haven’t been allowed a glimpse of a honeymoon period.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 23/09/2024 13:53

The only thing I’ve properly disagreed with so far has been the two child cap not being abolished.

Goldenbear · 23/09/2024 13:53

No as the Tories needed to go but I am wondering what's going to be done about housing, what's going to be put in place to make things more equal like a crackdown on Airbnbs making housing inaccessible and unaffordable for people who are permanent residents in these cities. There are nearly 92000 Air BNBs in London so these are no longer homes for people, it is the same in places like Brighton - it is infuriating watching programmes about rich prime estate just being bought up by foreign investors who are going to rent out as Air BNBs, it is destroying communities where once people who were permanent residents could live and work, I had hope that these things would change but maybe not.

Houseplanter · 23/09/2024 13:54

I didn't vote Labour and I'm glad I didn't. I do however agree with means testing the WFA.

I strongly disagree we're mainly millionaires.. we're tax paying reasonable income in general.

But many don't need it; those that do should get it and more besides.

Paisleydad · 23/09/2024 13:54

I didn't vote Labour or for the clearly incompetent, confused and shambolic Tories (or their market trader party rivals).

I'm quite content to give Labour a shot though. They honestly can't do any worse.

It's a complete nonsense to blame a 3 week old government for the social circumstances leading to the hate filled violence generated by the previous government's incompetence. In fact, they acted pretty swiftly to quell the bigoted violence.

And as the financial situation that they left becomes clearer, its reassuring not to have the Tories fiddling further to cover up and make it worse.

TLDR? I didn't but they are worth a shot.

Haroldwilson · 23/09/2024 13:55

No, I like what they've done so far.

All the negativity is the right wing press trying to knock them.

I like that they're taking unpopular decisions for the right reasons, the last lot took popular decisions for the wrong reasons. This country needs straightening out and they've got four years at least to do it, they need to get the gritty stuff done now to make progress.
