Labour voters - do you regret voting for them?

MeadowL · 23/09/2024 13:32

They got off to a really bad start and it's just gone downhill ever since. Within a couple of weeks we practically had martial law, we've had riots you name it. Law and order has completely broken down. They've cut the pensioners fuel allowance and all the while they've had their snouts in the trough. 2 tier Keir approval rating has fallen off a cliff - the country has had enough already lol.

Aibu to think that those who voted them in should apologise.

I voted Labour.

The riots are absolutely not their fault. They took tough action to quell them.

They are far less 'snouts in trough' than the Tories. It's incredible that the Tories got away with things like the PPE scandal.

The winter fuel allowance was a dubious choice, but I can see where they were coming from, even though the optics are poor.

Hoping for more left-leaning policies from them in future, to bring some fairness and humanity back to the country.

User135644 · 23/09/2024 17:37

I didn't vote them, I don't like them, but I'm still happy enough they're back in.

They're getting a rough ride from the Tory press. Fair in some respects but the Tories weren't held to account like this. It took them.a decade of them fucking up before they were scrutinised. Labour have been in 2 minutes.

Didn't you say you voted for them on your previous "Do you regret voting Labout" thread @MeadowL?Confused

Can’t be bothered to search but I’m pretty sure this is the reform voter that claimed they voted Labour on the other thread they started.

Willyoujustbequiet · 23/09/2024 17:39

Lol no.

You are funny, a career in stand up calls.

LetsTalk12 · 23/09/2024 17:39

I didn’t vote this year, but what I’m focused on is the future of the NHS and housing. The plan for both is crucial, and while I understand grey belts will be looked at first, I’m still uncomfortable with the idea of using green belt land. As for the NHS, nothing has been laid out yet, so I’m very curious to see what they come up with. Then there’s the issue of political donations, which is a real problem. It’s hard to take the ‘party for the working people’ seriously when they’re accepting lavish gifts. In finance, gifts and entertainment policies are strictly enforced, and regulators are watching closely. Politics should be no different.

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 23/09/2024 17:40

Nope.

Catterbat · 23/09/2024 17:41

I just switch off when anyone uses the ‘two tier Kier’ slogan. Bit like ‘the woke brigade’ or ‘remoaners’ etc. I don’t think people understand how thick it makes them sound.

MeadowL · 23/09/2024 16:41

I'm amazed at quickly the country has turned against 2 tier Keir. It's only been a couple of months and the country has rejected him.

He's never had high approval ratings. He's had less pf the vote percentage/fewer votes than even Corbyn did (at least in 2017). 2019 was more about Brexit and Starmer sold him out demanding the second referendum at the time.

Labour were banking for at least a decade on opposition but the Tories have fucked everything so badly that we've ended up with a Labour government that people didn't really want, just to get them out.

MrsBrew005 · 23/09/2024 17:45

I voted them, and so far yes, I am sorry and very disappointed. Just hoping they turn it around ASAP. I don't blame them for the riots, but I struggle with what they have done to pensioners, I only hope it's a pre cursor to making big business pay they're way.

Menopausalsourpuss · 23/09/2024 17:50

I think there is abit of a defensiveness in that people don't like to admit they were deceived and got it wrong. I felt the same way about voting for Brexit for a long time but can now admit I was wrong (in the sense that our leaders and the blob are so incompetent that it could never have been a success). Labour voters will eventually admit they got it wrong as the country gets even worse than it was under the tories - we really need new parties but it will be a long 5 years.

We weren’t deceived and we didn’t get it wrong. At least we didn’t fall for Hunt’s promise of unfunded tax cuts. Perhaps we were all looking forward to a change of government for so long we put them on a pedestal and are disappointed to discover they have feet of clay so quickly but they’re still incomparably better than the Tories.

How can anyone possibly know it was a mistake yet?

TENSsion · 23/09/2024 18:12

Tories and labour are two cheeks of the same arse. I’ve not seen any change to be honest.

They’re both hopeless at best. Dangerous at worst.

Saying that, labour grate on me more just because they’re EXACTLY the same as the Tories but are sanctimonious to boot.

No thanks. It works perfectly.

I only opened the thread to ask this but I was going to say once a week.

Bored of these now 🥱

What did you expect Labour to have done / achieved in two months?
I don't see how you think voting for Labour is comparable to voting for Brexit, at all Hmm

Errr not at all, why on earth would we?

Riots were down to the Tory’s,WFA had to be done and as for pigs in the trough I’m not sure what the fuss is over this government doing what every government does as regards freebies. Don’t agree with it but feel there should be a rule banning anybody in government or opposition from taking freebies. Labour are the most likely government to bring that about.

gokartdillydilly · 23/09/2024 13:34

Anything is better than those twats we had in power before. Anything.

This. Though I actually voted Green because there was no way I go vote for the current transphobic, pro-israel labour party.

notbelieved · 23/09/2024 18:22

Tell you what, OP I'll apologise for voting Labour when everyone who voted in the Tories from 2010 onwards also apologies. That's fair, right?

deltabluesandpinks · 23/09/2024 18:24

@Bumblebeestiltskin how is Labour transphobic? Because Keir was finally able to say what a woman was ie a biological woman? Have you seen the shite that David Lammy came out with?

Eh?! Are we reading the same responses here? This thread is pretty much unanimously saying "nah, we're good with it" and you're still beavering away at your little project.

Literally everyone I know is feeling relieved to be shot of the Conservatives, and broadly optimistic about a Labour term. Keir's good and Jess Phillips is a w e s o m e.

I don't know anyone who voted for brexit who thinks they got it wrong. I certainly think they did, but I don't know anyone who admits it. So good for you for saying that.
Regarding voting for this government, if in five years, I do think they got it wrong, I'll vote for someone else. However, I don't see how they can get it so wrong that I'll be voting the Tories back in, Or voting Reform, which I think I lot of those disappointed with Labour really mean.
