Labour voters - do you regret voting for them?

They got off to a really bad start and it's just gone downhill ever since. Within a couple of weeks we practically had martial law, we've had riots you name it. Law and order has completely broken down. They've cut the pensioners fuel allowance and all the while they've had their snouts in the trough. 2 tier Keir approval rating has fallen off a cliff - the country has had enough already lol.

Aibu to think that those who voted them in should apologise.

AceofPentacles · 23/09/2024 15:28

No, why would I ?

Pirri · 23/09/2024 15:30

No I don't regret it. I'm slightly left of centre, always voted labour until Corbyn and voted conservative in 2019.

I was very indifferent to Starmer but he's grown on me. Not keen on Angela Raynor but Lammy is the one I'm appalled at. Surely, surely there was someone better than him for that job?

The riots were dealt with in a way I could not improve on.
Clothesgate - badly handled but fundementally these people are not wealthy like Sunak. The PM and partner represent the UK on the world stage and should look the part. Either an allowance or wear clothing made in Britain by British designers and manufacturers.
Winter fuel. Yes it looks bad and could have been slightly more generous. If they had announced it at the budget among a lot of things hitting the wealthy it would have been less controversial. That would have been too late to stop it this year.

BridgetJonesBigPants · 23/09/2024 15:38

Not in the slightest.

newnamethanks · 23/09/2024 15:42

YABU. I'll expect an apology from Labour after the nation receives an apology from the oafish, loutish Tory party for the 14 years of grifting to enrich themselves and their grabby mates. Nothing Labour has done, or will do, can compare against the looting of public money that the pirates of the Tory party have carried out. Laughing at the taxpayers all the way while picking their pockets.

Daltonbear1 · 23/09/2024 15:54

Are you a reform voter did you see their conference old Nigel has made it so that it's very difficult to remove him. This is because reform don't respect democracy. Also he said he won't meet his constituents in his office because of worried about being hurt which is bollox it's an excuse to do no work. I have no regrets with labour as uou can't blame the riots on them you can blame that on the far right. I also want a fucking apology for 14 years of shit show tories that I never voted for them.
Talking about nose in trough none of the press gave a shit when Boris got his food paid already a year 24000 pounds that's more than an average wage nearly. Plus all the other shit he got. What there is is one rule for the tories and a much higher standard for labour. I see through posts like this and farage gets loads of money from putin Russian traitor to the west.

poetryandwine · 23/09/2024 15:59

Yes, @Daltonbear1 , the OP posted on 30 June that she would be voting Reform. She waited until 2 July before posting her ‘concern’ that absenteeism (presumably amongst government employees) would rise under Labour.

OP, I would laugh in derision at your misuse of the term ‘martial law’ except that it is an insult to all who have experienced the real thing

Undercoverstory · 23/09/2024 15:59

No, I've been really pleased with the start they've made and don't recognise the "disaster" you speak of at all.

They've resolved long running industrial disputes, made anyone working in education feel more positive about the future than they have for a really long time, recognised that the NHS needs much more than more money. I think the prisons minister appointment was inspired and support the early release of prisoners, who were going to be released in the next few weeks anyway, to free up space in a ridiculously high prison population.

The riots, IMO, were stirred up by a right wing press, in response to the election result and handled really well by the new government.

ToWhitToWhoo · 23/09/2024 16:01

I voted LibDem, not Labour; but I am relieved to have the present government instead of the previous lot. There are some things that I disagree with, like the WFA cuts (it would have been better to include it in taxable income IMO); but overall they are much more trustworthy than the previous lot.

As regards your other specific points:

(1) i don't approve of political leaders accepting donations, and I would like to see the rules tightened up; but far worse was happening under the previous lot.

(2) How on earth is the new government responsible for the riots? They didn't start them! They dealt with them promptly. And any underlying causes ranging from poverty, poor education, unemployment, etc. in certain areas to insufficient policing were longstanding problems, and could not have been reversed by the new government within just 3 weeks.

(3) When have we had martial law? Or a complete breakdown in law and order (more than in the past)? And is it even possible to have both at the same time?

(4) The '2 tier Keir' accusations are baseless: just a vile slander by the Reform scumbags, and even worse Tommy Robinson supporters; not even coming from the Tories.

As already indicated, I don't think the government is perfect. Governments are governments, and always tend to be somewhat self-interested and short-term-ist, and need continual holding to account. But we're not here comparing Starmer;s lot with perfection; we're comparing them with Sunak's incompetent government; the even worse misgovernments of Johnson and Truss; and the likelihood of the next Tory leader being worse than Sunak at any rate

What I do regret is that we have any Reform influence at all. I am aware that the extent of the Labour victory is partly due to those scumbags splitting the right-of-centre vote; and I would probably prefer to have a somewhat lower Labour majority and more Tory MPs surviving if it meant that Farage and his vile cohorts were totally crushed.

Monka · 23/09/2024 16:05

No, don’t regret voting for them and probably won’t for a long time. The Tories ruined public services in this country and Labour are trying to sort it out.

ari11 · 23/09/2024 16:07

Still happy with my vote thank you

Thanks I want all people to understand the typical reform voter doss love tommy Robinson they are the English maga lot . One woman I saw at their conference had a t shirt with farage face on giving me the same shit that those that go to trump rallies seem like. It's a cult not democracy I urge you all to go on YouTube and see how farage has made it now by getting the members to agree to rules that if they want to dispose of him from their party it's gonna be party hard if impossible. The thing is they don't like democracy and follow the Russian money to break up our system have no faith in our politicians this is trying to bring the downfall of the West and fargage is part kf that

Undercoverstory · 23/09/2024 16:16

I'd love to know what OP thinks martial law means. I suspect she might approve of the real thing!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 23/09/2024 16:19

Nope.
HTH

Daltonbear1 · 23/09/2024 16:20

Watched reform conference members being interviewed and they were anti lgbt said why do they need a flag etc @undercoverstory I agree they prob do after watching the members being interviewed

ivykaty44 · 23/09/2024 13:44

They haven’t cut the winter fuel allowance benefit from any pensioner on means test benefits, so housing benefit with £16000 in bank and you can still get WFA

why should pensioners, 27% are millionaires be scrounging off the tax payer?

it’s the correct thing to do

thry e also altered renting and landlords for the better

27% of pensioners are millionaires 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣…excuse me while I fall on the floor!

ToWhitToWhoo · 23/09/2024 16:26

randomchap · 23/09/2024 15:25

Anyone using two tier Kier unironically is definitely a Tory voter

Not necessarily. I think the term originates with the (far worse) Reform lot, rather than the Tories.

BIossomtoes · 23/09/2024 16:26

Gall10 · 23/09/2024 16:23

27% of pensioners are millionaires 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣…excuse me while I fall on the floor!

It’s actually around 25% of pensioner households but that includes property wealth and pension pots. Add up the value of a house and two pension pots and it’s quite easy to get to a million.

Undercoverstory · 23/09/2024 16:27

Well that is actually true. More than three million, out of c. 11.5m, pensioners live I'm households where net assets are £1m+ (which is the definition of a millionaire)

Edited

I doubt many of these live in the north!

braaaiiins · 23/09/2024 16:29

I do not. I would do it again. I trust them to sort the mess that the Tories made. I will reply exactly the same to every one of these threads that is scrambling for crumbs of justification to hate a party who are light yeats better than the self serving mercenary scumbags we had before.

CrepuscularCritter · 23/09/2024 16:30

Not at all. Positively stellar considering the terrible mess that proceeded them.

BIossomtoes · 23/09/2024 16:30

Gall10 · 23/09/2024 16:28

I bet lots do - look at property prices in places like Harrogate, York and Edinburgh.

Westfacing · 23/09/2024 16:30

No regrets - who else could I have voted for?

Maybe the other 75% could sell a kidney or two…don’t know where you get these figures from. ?MSM, daily fail, daily excess?

RhubarbAndCustardSweets · 23/09/2024 16:30

Me. Sees thread title. Thinks, oh, this might be an interesting and mature discussion on how people who voted for change feel disappointed etc.

Clicks on thread. Sees reference to martial law.

Ah no, it's one of those.
