To ask for help with stopping flatulence

Never had a problem with wind until recently. Have been to the doctor's and they have done the bowel cancer test (clear) but haven't made any suggestions about how to manage it. It's not too much of a problem during the day, but first thing in the morning is bad. I am going away next week and sharing a room, so am paranoid that I will fart in my sleep. Had anyone else had this and successfully managed it? My diet hasn't changed, I don't drink fizzy drinks, I do a reasonable amount of exercise. The only thing that has changed in my life is starting the menopause.

I already have a reputation of being a bit eccentric at work - I could imagine Miriam Margoyles doing this, and I think maybe I should embrace it.

Who are you sharing with? If it's a reasonably good friend then you need to just make light of the situation. Fart openly and laugh about it. You'll both feel much more comfortable about it than trying to hold it in and getting embarrassed.

I had this problem, had the FIT test etc - all negative. I also followed the FODMAPS diet which I didn’t get a clear result from re flatulence. GP said I might be constipated and advised trying to get on top of that. I was very surprised as I went every day. But apparently you can be constipated even if you go every day. I can tell now when I’m a bit constipated and I definitely have a lot more wind at those times….
