to hate H&M self service

Omnium · 22/09/2024 09:53

Bought 3 things in H&M, and as there was only one till open and a queue, I used the self service machine.

Just went to wear the jumper now- and it's still got the fucking magnetic anti-theft thing clamped on it.

How can I get it off? I really don't want to traipse all the way back into the city centre (2 buses) for them to remove it.

I don't mind straightforward self service but this has pissed me off. Just annoyance, inconvenience and extra expense for the customer- all so the business can make more money.

Any practical ideas on how to remove the device welcome.

so is self service only for items with no security tag?
or do you need to call someone over to remove it?

JMSA · 22/09/2024 09:58

I haven't used it yet, but H&M do tend to be bad for queues.
Very annoying about your tag. They should have a staff member to oversee the self-service, like in Primark and the supermarkets.

ThisBlueCrab · 22/09/2024 09:58

The ones in Zara have the removal kit for the tags next to it. As do the ones in my local h&m. This seems a user error issue as opposed to the tills/company

Bloody hell, they'll be asking us to print our own receipts next!

HermioneWeasley · 22/09/2024 09:59

Had this in a new Zara yesterday. Every single person needed help so it just annoyed customers and wasn’t any more efficient in terms of labour.

I don’t mind for groceries as the margins are tight and it’s transactional, but in a clothes shop I want and expect to be served.

PonyPatter44 · 22/09/2024 10:00

This is so annoying, I agree! I bought some trousers in morrisons yesterday, and had to get an assistant to come over to take the tag off. If they're going to have these tags, they should at least work properly.

i’m confused

so you were at self service
and needed to call over an assistant to remove tag

hie else did you expect to remove?

Decorhate · 22/09/2024 10:01

I used H&M self service recently and there was a device to remove the security tag at the till. Obviously that does not help the OP!

My bugbear is Boots self checkout. They often have little security strips attached to things - yesterday it still beeped even though I’d asked a shop assistant to sort it out before I left the store.

The clue is in the name...SELF SERVICE

If you want to be waited on then learn to queue patiently

This. I've no issue in my local Tesco. Mine only have self service tills open early in the morning and everyone zooms through no bother as it's usually people stocking up on essentials and not a full weekly shop. If I'm buying new clothes I expect to be served.

There is no option in my local Zara for a served experience now. Even supermarkets offer a choice!

GellerYeller · 22/09/2024 10:12

The ‘served’ experience in all the Zaras near me is always a test of endurance. Good lord, the queues!
To the PP who mentioned printing your own receipt, we’ve been offered them by text in Zara, and yesterday in Tiger the options were digital or paper. At least you don’t have to read your email address to the whole shop a la New Look though.

Atishooo · 22/09/2024 10:14

There are tag removal things at the self service tills in H&M. The till prompts you to remove them although it’s strange if didn’t set off an alarm when you left.

safariled · 22/09/2024 10:15

Op won’t be back to confirm that it was user error! 😆

GellerYeller · 22/09/2024 10:56

There must be a method of removing them as I found one in a changing room. It’s a very big pin(almost stood on it).

You do realise people buying items in shops are customers?

Sunshineandpool · 22/09/2024 11:02

I think you can take it off with a magnet. Though when this happened to my partner he managed to just rip it off but I was worried about his jumper being damaged too so wouldn't recommend that.

On my partners jumper there were obviously two as he took one off in store. The alarm didn't go off either!

AutumnLeaves91 · 22/09/2024 11:05

They have tag removals at the self service area and my local one also had instructions and a staff member came over to ask if I was okay.

they do have the facilities for tag removal at self-checkouts

MaJoady · 22/09/2024 11:09

As pp have said, there are tag removal devices as part of the self service in my local h&m. The checkout even reminds you to check for them and gives instructions on how to remove them. It's much quicker in my H&M to use these tills and keeps the queue for people doing returns (there always seems to be loads of these, so I'm happy to be able to just pay and leave rather than wait ages)

I suspect this is user error rather than h&m's fault tbh.

Comedycook · 22/09/2024 11:00

What's your point?

The op chose to use the self service till, and failed to remove the tag and is now angry st the ship for having self service tills.

Others are saying in a shop they expect to be served by a person...then don't use the self service toll, wait in the queue. It's not rocket science.

UprootedSunflower · 22/09/2024 11:10

I did this recently. The tag removed easily with a strong magnetic I had luckily

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 22/09/2024 11:15

Primark has self service tills??

InandOutlander · 22/09/2024 11:17

I've done this before when a manned till didn't take it off - I just cut through it. Took a while though
