to think that putting explosives in devices such as pagers and walkie talkies can lead to indiscriminate injuries and killings

Let's get the first thing out of the way - it's not right to fire missiles and rockets at people - as that can cause indiscriminate injuries as well.

Putting explosives in devices such as pagers and walkie talkies - it sounds clever. Just send a signal and an explosion goes off potentially injuring and killing your opponent who has it. It will also disrupt communication methods.

But once you put the explosive in it, you lose control of where it goes and when it gets blown up. It could be a child has it. It could be on a plane - and might not be picked up by security.

You don't know where it ends up. Which means that it has the potential for unintended consequences.

What about any that didn't go off? Are there objects that have been booby trapped and are just potentially waiting to explode - and who knows where they are? The thing about booby traps is that you just don't know who will set them off.

Booby traps seem to be against the International Humanitarian Law if they can injure civillians.

So you don't agree that when you drop a bomb or use a drone, that you at least know where your target is and have a good idea of the potential casualties?

I still can’t believe that you are arguing for bombs to be dropped from the air that would 100% kill vs pagers that mostly did not kill. You would rather they were 100% dead than injured!? I’m starting to think you dislike Hezbollah even more than I do, or even more than the Israeli government do.

How?

Trying to silence people who rightfully denounce Israel by calling them anti-semetic is embarrasing, ridiculous and disgusting. I would have thought by now, almost a year into this horrific genocide, which has been recorded by those experiencing it, so there is absolutely no room for excusing it away, no one would be silly enough to try to make excuses for Israel. But here we are.

EasternStandard · 18/09/2024 21:52

No again I do not agree with your conclusions and I can see others are perplexed by them too

I will never be embarrassed for denouncing a genocide. There are countless accounts of Palestinians being raped and tortured. I am a rape survivor and I’m not interested in linking genuinely triggering content when it is very easy to look for it yourself. Believe what you want, it says more about you than it does me. Pathetic.

dont be ridiculous. One allegation of male on male rape is being investigated. There are no other credible allegations of rape or torture by the IDF. And no person other than an idiotic antisemite spreads that nonsense about genocide, certainly no Jew.

There are wild accusations against Israel of all types. Horrifying how the violence including sexual violence that took place on 7 October against Israeli people instead of sparking support and sympathy just encouraged more vile Jew hate.

I am not arguing for bombs to be dropped,

I am saying that they had no idea where the pagers were when they exploded.
When you drop a bomb, you know where it is and can anticipate what could happen,

They set off 5000 explosions. They had no control over where they would go off.

"random"... What has been happening on Israel's northern border since October? Why have tens of thousands of civilians been forced out of their homes there? Why have fires been raging all across the region? Did a Druze kids' football team just drop down dead by chance? I just can't understand why people comment with such confidence when you really haven't got a clue... it's wild.

It's bold of you to assume I haven't got a clue. Do explain how you have come to pass this judgement.

Your posts indicate you are an antisemite. Many people criticize Israel without being antisemitic. You haven’t managed. You’ve also been pretending to be Jewish to hide it.

You are a Jewish person who says that supporting Israel is an inhuman genocidal stance. Hmmm…

Could they guarantee that when they exploded, that no civillian would be harmed?

Could they guarantee that the location of the explosion would not cause any other issues?

Are such guarantees customary in warfare?

OK - they set off 5000 explosions.

Did they know where they would go off and how could they reduce the impact on the civilian population so they could ensure that the effect they wanted was proportional to the potential harm caused to non combatants?

Hezbollah don’t. They have some fairly large bombs but they are not particularly well guided. But they don’t care who they kill in Israel. Because they are Islamist terrorists who want to eradicate their neighbors in a race war.

but let’s not give them exploding pagers, eh!

This is so messed up I don’t know where to begin. Now all of us know ths Israeli government can plant bombs in small devices of groups it’s against. Why would anybody buy any device with parts manufactured in Israel in case they became an accidental victim? This is very scary.

I doubt somehow that Hezbollah ordered these pagers from an Israeli company. Just a hunch.

Certainly not from Hezbollah or Hamas

Law of averages would make it unlikely that no male Israeli soldiers have ever raped anyone. Bet the female soldiers haven’t tho.

But there is no evidence that there is a particular issue with rape in the IDF. In fact there is generally good treatment of women in the IDF and Israeli society in general has reasonably good equality between the sexes (legions ahead of any other country in the region).

Hilarious. What about the female spotters in the IDF who warned about Hamas actions prior to 7th October but who were ignored and some of those same women were killed ( possibly some by the IDF) or taken hostage by Hamas?
Or are we still not allowed to talk about IDF failings on 7th?

"The young women believe the officers' refusal to heed their warnings stemmed partly from arrogance but also from male chauvinism. "There's no doubt that if men had been sitting at those screens, things would look different," one of the spotters told Haaretz".

Amazing, you can lob rockets at a country for almost a year and yet not be at war with them. Schrödingers war.

Please correct me but Israel is not at war with Lebanon. Hezbollah is not the official government of Lebanon but the Israeli government is quite happy to carry a terrorist act on a foreign soil. This is a breach of international laws, laws that Israel has sign up to.

Do you honestly think Israeli solders haven't raped anyone?

I doubt that there is a war in history where individuals from any side haven't raped civilians. It happens in peace time too: www.bbc.com/news/articles/cpwwdyye4vgo

Whenwillitgetwarm · 18/09/2024 22:07

There seems to be a desperation to widen and escalate this conflict. However, British must stay out of it. America can make this their new Vietnam if they wish. Maybe them properly entering the fray is best to end it all as it seems it will never end. The rest of the world is sick to death of it.

My children will not be conscripted to fight for people fighting because old books told them it was their land. Both sides are becoming insane, losing their humanity and trying to destroy humanity with them.

The spotters such as Naama Levy who we’ve seen being dragged around Gaza by Hamas covered in blood after being attacked by terrorists with clear signs of rape? That’s what you’re trying to use to pretend that the IDF have an issue with rape?

that’s disgusting. It absolutely haunts me thinking what Naama must be going through and the other Israeli women at the hands of Hamas. How shameful you find it “hilarious”.
