To ask if you’ve ever become obsessed with a murder case?

I was watching a true crime podcast on YouTube and it finished and went to a random suggestion and it was a 2 minute video of a crime scene inside a subway from the 80s on an ordinary news channel.

I looked into the case and there’s nothing on it apart from a one column blurb in the newspaper at the time and the victims photo being sold on Amazon. It’s so weird .. and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Anyone else?

Janet Brown in Radnage.

@redalex261 Rachel Callely's (O'Reilly) mam was on the radio during the week over here, it's been 20 years if you can believe that? That prick is still trying for parole every chance he gets, no remorse, nothing, the poor woman sounds broken, he took so much from that family, they're from my home area

I watched The Laci Peterson, An American Murder series on Netflix recently, again another senseless murder by an absolute monster

Not murder, but I have a morbid fascination for plane accidents. Was obsessed with MH370 for some time.

Also space travel disasters.

I love flying, bizarrely!

Oh god me too! Any kind of disasters really tbh, I lose hours to them

I think I lost a whole weekend on Tsunamis and flash floods. Flash floods in particular are insane! I’m such a ghoul.

@Boiledbeetle jesus christ I'm gobsmacked, I can't believe you lived through that x

I'm exactly the same & it's literally once you start on one you're done for hours (days!)

Peasenhall Murder
This is the podcast of the murder of Rose Harsent in a village close to me.
My late great aunt could remember it happening and used to talk to me about it.

Channel 5 had a doc on it last night, one of the talking heads said that Chris Watts may have wanted to wipe out the view of himself as a man who cheats on his wife by killing them all. He couldn’t just leave them with a divorce.

I think she’s right, he was a narcissist that put his self-image ahead of the lives of his wife and children.

That reminded me of a case over here, a whole family, wife & two sons murdered by (of course) the dad because obviously they couldn't possibly live without them, he's cooked the books in school, think he was the treasurer, usual "pillar of the community" comments from the priest at the funerals sent shockwaves through the country, another prick, RTÉ made a program about it "Her Name Is Clodagh"

Yes, I came across that case on a previous MN thread.

I was so angry that the church had her buried next to him and so glad she was moved away. I’ll always remember that name.

The death of baby Victoria following the runaway parents - aristocratic mother , convicted rapist father who were finally found after sleeping in a tent in January and dumping their deceased baby in a carrier bag full of rubbish in an allotment.
RIP Victoria

It was three sons I think? Absolutely awful... I think people can't process that a person could plan out the murders. I remember getting into a discussion withy mother in law where she said he 'flipped' and went crazy... But he planned it - had his weapon ready, etc. He seemed so normal - I don't know how the families move on from it.

Scorchio84 · 06/10/2024 05:39

@Wildbird12 yeah that's the murder/suicide I'm talking about, there's no way he "flipped" like you said it was all planned, I just can't imagine the terror in that house.
Shortly after the funerals Clodagh's family requested & were granted that his body be removed from the families side & rightly so, there was certainly an element of "the poor man, he must have been under so much stress" everyone was outraged & that particular narrative stopped pretty sharpish

Harry and Nicola Fuller. Murdered by a guy Harry knew. The killers voice was broadcast on Crimewatch and loads of people recognised it. He was convicted of their murder then it transpired that the jury had used a ouija board and there was a retrial.. What a thing for their families to go through..

Ive driven through Wadhurst quite a few times. It was big news in the area at the time I think and I’ve since seen the case featured on crime watch on YouTube.
