Are you glad you voted Labour ?

Noangelbuthavingfun · 16/09/2024 18:14

Sir Keir is firmly in his new seat and appears to be making waves... winter fuel, VAT on private school fees, UEFA watchdog type scenario, budgets... increase in CGT, 20% increase for Jr doctors, immigration learnings from Italy to pay other countries to take Immigrants and that's only what I briefly followed.
So my question is - are you still glad you voted Labour, or that they are in Power if you didn't? And what if you are not happy anymore - why ?
I'm on the fence so trying to be objective ;-)

I didn’t vote Labour but I was at least a bit relieved they got in. The Tories were worn out and needed to go. We don’t live in a one party state, thank god.

A smaller majority would have been preferable but the Tories blew it so badly that they got what they deserved.

So far, though, Labour has been a shitfest. Absolutely chronic hypocrisy, and shameless nepotism, cronyism and grift. And no end of it in sight.

So, five years of laughing at the smug and self-regarding Labour fans on here as their government sinks even lower than the Tories. Excellent! 👍

Meadowlands · 16/09/2024 21:17

Yes and would vote for them again

SuLu223 · 16/09/2024 21:18

Yes, but my MP was Liz Truss, so I had to vote Labour to help get her out. I’m not entirely happy with a few things that Labour have done so far but I’ve still no regrets given the circumstances!

UhHuhHuH · 16/09/2024 21:19

In the limbo bar of low, not sure ANY previous government of ANY party collapsed so spectacularly on almost all societal measures as the last Tory shitshow.

Barryplopper · 16/09/2024 21:20

Yes

ticktickticktickBOOM · 16/09/2024 21:22

Yes.
Kier Starmer seems intelligent, strong, confident and committed.
It feels safe.

Well, Labour’s introduced a welfare cut that they said was an abomination ten months ago when they were in opposition.

They’ve already sunk further than the Tories, on Labour’s own measure.

👏👏👏👏. Labour 🙄

Bigfuckoffmarrow · 16/09/2024 21:26

There is a lot I don't like about Labour. I don't like Starmer, not because he is seen as dull, but because he won't stand for differing views in his party and is too ruthless. That concerns me as your MP is your representative for local people's issues and you should be able to vote accordingly.

I would have preferred to vote Lib Dem as I preferred Ed Davey, but wasn't worth it in my constituency and the local Labour candidate seemed like the better choice. So I voted for these reasons as my candiate was keen on sorting the SEND crisis and other issues i am interested in. He got in by just votes few votes, so my vote definitely counted.

Tories were fucking awful. This lot might end up incompetent, but at least they aren't incompetent cunts like the last lot and seem to want to fix things for everyone, not just run them in to the ground so they can sell them off.

I'm aware some state schools do Latin. None in my area do. My daughter wouldn't cope with an online course. Of course I'm not suggesting Latin should be a policy priority. I've told her there are other ways to get to her dream goal but she's autistic, she finds it very hard to change tack, and right now she is devastated and I am dealing with her self harm.

So other people may be happy with Labour. But for my family, it's a clusterf*ck.

historiccastles · 16/09/2024 21:28

Even taking away the Latin issue, she's still left with changing schools mid-GCSEs. There was no reason why the rule had to be brought in so quickly other than to score points.

Righty hoo.

Grumpsy · 16/09/2024 21:28

Didn’t vote for them. But after 2 months in office I already didn’t think they could be this bad. It appears I was incorrect in that assumption.

Bigfuckoffmarrow · 16/09/2024 21:29

Does anyone really expect to like EVERY decision a party they have voted for makes? I'm not keen on the WFA policy (but wealthy pensioners shouldn't get it either) and plans for the NHS. I think they have had a shit point to start from though which isn't their fault.

LAvortonDeLaLitière · 16/09/2024 21:31

Yes, very glad.

That’s very distressing. Not least because you are unlikely to have access to CAHMS due to chronic underfunding - by the Tory government.

Teenagerantruns · 16/09/2024 21:34

I voted lib dem to get our useless Conservative mp out. Not thrilled with the winter fuel allowance thing but my DW got it and we just used it for weekend away. Know it might hit other pensioners though. Our new lib dem MP seems to be actually present in the community and listening to people so happy with that. Whatever happens labours cant be worse than conserviates. I willing to give them a chance at least.

I hope you've taken this up with your school. I still think they could cover the two terms in some cases with the money they will be saving through the tax change.

MathsMum3 · 16/09/2024 21:56

100% happy with Labour in power. Not sure why you are "on the fence" atm, but YABU if you're expecting them to have undone all the damage inflicted by 14 years of Tory government in just 10 weeks!!

CE0194WN149 · 16/09/2024 21:59

I did and I'm glad I did. The country is so fucked from years of the Tories and they've had to make some really unpopular decisions. The idea of 4 more years of the Tories would have been awful.

Yeah, Vic’s decision to go with the donor-purchased red dress rather than the blue was a really unpopular, but necessary, decision. Hard times.

labour always do this

over spend massively and then someone (torries) has to come in and realise the money has to be paid back

The facts disagree.

Are you glad you voted Labour ?
BellaBlythe · 16/09/2024 22:10

It is far too soon to form an opinion. As many have said.
My criticisms are the clumsy politics of taking the money from pensioners heating allowance this year as a first step. Then giving a generous settlement to ASLEF without even attempting to negotiate an improvement in working practices.
They had many years watching the railway situation but chose to support ASLEF.
I would have thought that £70,000 per annum drivers had broader shoulders to carry more of the load than pensioners. Even allowing that some have good private pensions very few will have that kind of income. Very few indeed.

Have you looked at private school reserves on companies house? £42m, £27m...just the two local to me and no, not in London. I don't understand why these schools can't use these reserves especially as many have a policy of a 5% year on year increase

BellaBlythe · 16/09/2024 22:22

Pension Credits. I have no knowledge of this benefit, because no one in family of that age. So please help me. It seems many who are eligible do not apply.
It is reported that to apply the form has 240 questions that need to be answered.
Is this correct and what other help would they get? It seems hard work!
