JoyousPinkPeer · 16/09/2024 08:33

Will Huw get a worse/lighter sentencing today because of his fame?

YABU ... Worse sentence
YANBU ... Lighter setence

Will they publish the sentencing report?

So the Mumsnet jury is out once again with mind blowing exageration and made up rubbish with total disregard for the truth in this matter. Please read the facts then you might change your mind abouty the case.

Serious question: what aspect of the facts would change people's minds? The report I've read on the BBC is disturbing.

ZoeCM · 16/09/2024 14:05

I know others have posted this already, but it bears repeating: there's something fucked-up about a society that jails people for tweets but not for downloading sexual images of 13-year-olds.

Hmmmmamilucky · 16/09/2024 14:06

I think something was mentioned in the sentencing report about him not faring well in prison due to the nature of his crimes. If they are worried about pedos being attacked then the government can just build a big prison somewhere remote and stick them all in there. I’m sure it would fill up quickly and be a worthwhile investment 👍

Deporting non-UK citizens who are in prison a few weeks earlier than originally intended would create space, for example. Who will be deported upon the end of their prison term as was said when sentenced.

This is already in place under the early removal scheme. We currently deport 4000 foreign criminals a year but there is a huge backlog and there is a very large number of "un-deportables", either because we don't have the right diplomatic relations with the country of origin, or the country of origin is unknown, or they simply refuse permission to deportation flights. The other issue that is really starting to bite is that there are very few charter airlines that will take the business on and those that do charge an absolute fortune - average costs are £9k per flight.

What facts do you think we're missing?

SamVan · 16/09/2024 14:10

Can’t believe how lightly he got off for his crimes. It’s shocking and sends a signal to pedos everywhere to just expect a slap on the wrist. Who would report crimes when their perpetrators don’t even get a proper sentence.

Sera1989 · 16/09/2024 14:12

A friend recently told me what happens to sex offenders and paedophiles in prison in his country, I'm not a violent person but I think they deserve it. There is no deterrent here. In other countries prisoners serve justice but here people get to walk the streets and complete a "treatment program"

You want criminals to serve "justice" to other criminals? That is just madness.

Makes you wonder how many work in the justice system.

Sorry pressed send too soon

  1. Edwards paid up to £1,500 to a paedophile who sent him 41 illegal images between December 2020 and August 2021, seven of which were of the most serious type. Of those images, the estimated age of most of the children was between 13 and 15, but one was aged between seven and nine.
  2. Williams "sought out" Edwards rather than the other way around.
  3. He specifically said NO to any illegal images - Edwards "positively told" Williams not to send him images of children who were underage, Magistrate says.
  4. Turning to the charges, Mr Evans says the concept of making images is not taking photographs or videos and that Edwards has in no way created the images.
  5. According to the probation report, around 95% of the images were "self-directed", children taking images of themselves, while a small percentage relate to very young children.
  6. Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring says he accepts Huw Edwards didn't pay in exchange for images.
  7. Magistrate - Edwards didn't store them for use for personal gratification.
  8. Mr Evans adds that he didn't keep the images, send them to anyone else, and has never sought similar images before or since.
  9. He says he made payments to convicted paedophile Alex Williams as an apparent "thank you" after he sent pornographic images but didn't purchase them in the traditional sense.
  10. Judge stated - I am of the clear view that you do not present a risk or danger to the public at large and specifically children.

So the punishment was in line with the guidelides - no need for him to be hung, drawn and quartered after all.

I just wish people would read the facts.

Sepoctnov · 16/09/2024 14:16

Ugh I didn't want to return to this thread, not even going to read the coverage of this story.

As I said upthread this is a disgusting sickness in society. Every time this happens just reinforces that child sexual abuse is no big crime. The paedophiles know it full well. Makes my blood boil.

So sorry to all the victims of CSA. Protect your kids people. And yes I am one of those parents who would never let my DC on sleepovers, overnight trips, holiday camps with flimsy vetting and safeguarding.

I think he’ll get a suspended sentence.
His wages from the BBC will have paid for the best barrister who I’m sure has mitigated HE’s offences.
He couldn’t help it mi’lord, his mental health made him look at indecent images.

It’s an insult to all the law abiding citizens who struggle daily with their mh.

You were spot on, and how I agree with you. Absolutely appalling pulling the MH card. Funny how his MH issue didn’t stop him being able to function sufficiently well to earn a fantastic salary.

But don’t get me started on the enormous salaries paid in general to BBC staff. That’s licence payers hard earned money……

I read all that already thanks

it in no way changes my view on anything. He’s a vile paedophile who should be in jail

I'm leaning that way, too. If there are too many sex offenders to fit in prisons, and sex offenders are at risk from other prisoners... why not just build separate prisons for them? Yes, it would be expensive, as would the staff's salaries. But when it comes to financial crimes, the judiciary doesn't generally throw up its hands and say, "Oh well, let's just give them suspended sentences."

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2024 14:22

So, the facts we all know, @Molly499 .

Yes, the sentencing was 'within guidelines'. What most of the 'MN jury' are taking issue with is the leniency of those guidelines, for all CSA offenders not just edwards.

Oh that’s ok then. The kids brought it on themselves and only a small percentage was of little children.
Have a word with yourself 🤬

AGirlInACountrySong · 16/09/2024 14:23

We already have seperate prisons for sex offenders

I can think of 4 but I know there's more

You don't get seperate prisons for other crimes

its only the Senior Managers and 'talent' that gets the big money. Most of the staff are just ordinary. I'm sure a BBC staffer will tell us more

You've forgotten the part where Williams said he had "young" and "naughty' images and Huw replied "go on then"

Huw also said "nothing underage" then said "go on" when offered the under age images

They also only looked and used the what's app images and videos as evidence and not the drop box images that were sent

Huw also said "age can be deceptive" and referred to the under age images as "Amazing"

Please don't leave out these facts whilst you defend him. It's bad enough the BBC are now pitying him
