To ask which ONE country you would visit again and why?

Inspired by the other thread (which wouldn't you visit again), if you could only choose one country to visit again which one and why?

Having asked I'm struggling to answer myself! I think probably Italy for the food and history but part of me wants to say Tibet because it's so stunning and culturally interesting.

Japan

its so different from anywhere else so you really feel like you’re travelling. I would go with an empty suitcase so I could stock up on stationery and fabric.

100% this!

Italy - just wonderful. The scenery, the culture, the food, the welcome. Only downside: the mosquitoes.

I feel I could quite happily have every holiday of my life in Italy.

Switzerland: the scenery, the scenery, the scenery.

I really loved Madrid. So interesting and friendly. You can mostly walk everywhere well.

I really want to go back to Thailand

There are loads of countries I'd go back to to explore further

IDontLikePinaColadas · 16/09/2024 07:58

Tanzania for me. I actually have it in my will that I want my ashes scattered there.

grannycake · 16/09/2024 08:11

France for the variety of landscape - mountain ranges, med coast, surfing coast, lakes, etc

Sunnnybunny72 · 16/09/2024 08:35

Iceland.

Ok, here is a shocker for everyone.

The UK, specifically London.

I’m English, I live overseas. I lived in London in my twenties and OMG I miss it!

I have no reason to go back as I have no family there any more.

I miss the food, the junk food, the theatre, the world class museums, the ease of access to those experiences, the great transport system (even though I lived there when Bob Crow was arranging strike after strike - still better than anywhere else). I miss the seasons, I miss the evening standard (when there were 3+ editions a day), I miss the pubs, I miss going out so easily after work, I miss everything being green.

I could go on but probably shouldn’t.

Edited to add - I’m several long flights away so I won’t be visiting any time soon but I want to and I plan to. As lovely as where I am is, I miss London and while I loved it while I was there, I think I appreciate it even more now,

Edited

Totally agree! We lived there for over 20yrs. Miss it. We live about an hour away now, so any excuse to go back for visits. Travelled all over this fabulous planet, and it is the best city in the world imo.

SpiderGwen · 16/09/2024 10:29

Probably France, if reluctantly. I try to avoid holidays that require flights (my concession is one every 3 years or so) so France is the most accessible repeat destination with plenty of variety.

But really Italy. It’s doable by train or car and every place I’ve been to has been absolutely wonderful. Art, food, architecture, scenery and all the history - France has these too, but in Italy it’s just ramped up to 11.

JADS · 16/09/2024 10:38

I love France. It's so diverse and if you can speak French (which I can), most people are bloody lovely. I can live without Paris, but a small French town where you can buy fresh bread and get a coffee, perfect!

I loved Canada too and would love to go back.

nOasistickets · 16/09/2024 10:41

Singapore.

Maireas · 16/09/2024 10:46

Yes, I liked Singapore.

The Faroe Islands are amazing. I only visited once but will definitely return.

Easy to get to from the UK yet hardly anyone goes there. The place is absolutely stunning.

Aren't they cold?

Boohoo76 · 16/09/2024 10:51

The U.S. because there’s so much to see and do and my kids never get bored there!

DancingLions · 16/09/2024 10:54

Another for Japan here.
I've been several times and still haven't seen everything I want to. I will never tire of going there. I only wish the flight was shorter! It's actually extended now because of Russia. You can still get there in 12 hrs but the flights home now go over Canada and it's pushed up to 15 hrs.

AnyFucker · 16/09/2024 10:55

So many places on both lists 😊

paristotokyo · 16/09/2024 10:57

Malaysia definitely and also it got a lot of hate on the other thread but Turkey for me and more specifically Istanbul ♥️ I love the culture, architecture and vibe! I've been a few times already. I'd also love to explore Italy more.
