Wearing mascara on your lower lashes?

I’ve tried it but my eyes are too watery and it looks a mess. But I absolutely love the look.

Does anyone do this? I rarely see this look.

I have long lower lashes too but when I try and put mascara on they look so spidery and clumpy.

i might try and use a brown mascara to make it look more natural.

I actually use a purple mascara. It looks black it’s bizarre.

PrincessSakura · 14/09/2024 16:55

Always, mine are long so I use a waterproof mascara and clean up any residue with a q-tip

shivbo2014 · 14/09/2024 17:14

Only top lashes for me, look bit spidery if I do the bottom!

minipie · 14/09/2024 17:25

Only top lashes for me as I have round eyes, slightly downward sloping and mascara on lower lashes just makes me look like a tired doll.

Krumblina · 14/09/2024 17:29

If it's smudging due to watering then a waterproof mascara. But it's more likely smudging due to oils in which case you need a tubing mascara. There's quite a few now. Google best tubing mascaras for it.

I always put mascara on both sets
Do people not?

Same here, thought this was the norm.

Giggorata · 14/09/2024 17:32

I read on here about a year ago that most people do only the top eyelashes now.
I think it looks odd on me if I don't do the lower lashes.
I haven't really noticed what other people do, I will have to start checking.
(Imagines self gazing earnestly into everyone's eyes. I wonder how they will react)

Youremylobster86 · 14/09/2024 17:35

Definitely both. Every time I've had my make up done by a make up artist they also do both.

OldTinHat · 14/09/2024 17:39

I don't put mascara on my lower lashes because I look like a panda about three minutes later.

BookHimDanno · 14/09/2024 17:39

On occasion I do the bottom will do one eye with and one without tomorrow and see what I prefer!

ThatMakesSense · 14/09/2024 17:51

It makes my eyes look like spiders. Only top lashes for me.

Definitely both. Every time I've had my make up done by a make up artist they also do both.

But are you getting your makeup done for an occasion? Where you’d want your makeup more “dramatic” than your every day look?

(Not saying your makeup looked dramatic just more noticeably than your day to day)

I never put it on lower lashes

Tangerinenets · 14/09/2024 18:09

I do my own lash lift and dye both top and bottom. Mascara smudges on the botttom for me.

britespark1 · 14/09/2024 18:14

I only do the top lashes. I don't like the way my bottom ones look plus they smudge really easily even with my favourite tubing mascara

WetBandits · 14/09/2024 18:15

I do top and bottom, but I use tubing mascara so it never smudges!

MartinsSpareCalculator · 14/09/2024 18:19

I put Mascara at the root and fan it out through my lower lashes.

PorkPieForStarters · 14/09/2024 18:22

Only ever on the top (eyeliner and eyeshadow, too), it makes my eyes look brighter and bigger.

JADS · 14/09/2024 14:58

I have never been able to wear mascara on my lower lashes. My eyes are very sensitive and I can only really wear Clinique mascara and eyeliner.

Clinique sell a specific tiny bottom lash mascara with a microscopic wand for getting right to the route.

Gulbekian · 14/09/2024 18:27

I used to do both but found from about age 48 onwards that just doing the top set made me look younger and "fresher", so now I only do the upper lashes.

SafeToUse · 14/09/2024 18:28

Both, always. Used to only do top lashes but since turning 60 my lashes have got sparse and somehow shorter than they used to be! Also eyes have got a bit hooded.

So for the past few years I've gone minimal with the eyeshadow, just use a brightening concealer on lids and underneath, and then use a tubing mascara - usually Estee Lauder double wear - using it to tight-line the waterline rather than using a harsher eyeliner.

I do however wear glasses so I always think I need to emphasise both sets of lashes as eyes can disappear a bit behind specs.

HolyMoly24 · 14/09/2024 18:31

I have done too and bottom since a teenager, my eyes look weird to me if I only do top.

I always use a tubing mascara to stop any smudging

rainbowsparkle28 · 14/09/2024 18:33

I have never done mascara on bottom lashes!

IDontHateRainbows · 14/09/2024 18:35

I never do the bottom lashes, too afraid of smudging. It's quite a 60s look. I have naturally full, dark lashes anyway so don't really need the bottom ones doing.

HauntedbyMagpies · 14/09/2024 18:37

I prefer to put it just on the top ones. I think it makes my top ones look that tiny bit longer
