Wearing mascara on your lower lashes?

I’ve tried it but my eyes are too watery and it looks a mess. But I absolutely love the look.

Does anyone do this? I rarely see this look.

I do too and bottom but use waterproof mascara

Tubing mascara!

The Tarte XL is amazing.
Maybelline Sky High is okay as a cheaper rotation but not quite as amazing.

It won't smudge ever and removes with warm water.

Alternatively get your eyelashes tinted and it will help make the top mascara look more cohesive.

The fashion at the moment is no bottom lash mascara according to all the beauty influencers... but I personally think my eyes don't look balanced.

Fashion at the moment? 😂 Aren’t most beauty influencers just shilling whatever brand has paid them and told them how to do their makeup?

I always put mascara on top and bottom eyelashes. I thought everyone did!

Rory17384949 · 14/09/2024 15:38

I read in a magazine in the 90s that you should never put mascara on your lower lashes so never have!
I am very fair though and I've since realised that I do actually need something to define my lower lashes, mascara looks too much so I use eyeliner and an eyeshadow pen

Thudercatsrule · 14/09/2024 15:38

What about dying yr eyelashes?

farleysrusks · 14/09/2024 15:39

I use Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

FeralNun · 14/09/2024 15:40

Eh? God, I must be old.

I had no clue that people didn’t do top and bottom as a matter of course. Unless you are planning on doing a lot of crying.

I have long lashes (not quite as luxuriant as in youth) and tiny eyes, which disappear without mascara..

Choochoo21 · 14/09/2024 15:42

I’m with the posters saying they thought it was normal to do both lashes!
I didn’t know some people only did the top ones either.

I am going to try it myself as I have really long bottom eyelashes and I have to be careful not to put on too much mascara.

I do both the top lashes, let them dry for a few seconds and then do the bottom ones.
I am careful not to blink too much or open my eyes too wide for a few seconds afterwards to allow them to dry.

I usually smudge a bit, so I get a make up wipe and carefully remove any smudges.

Once it’s dry and if you use waterproof mascara, then it shouldn’t smudge at all.

BashfulClam · 14/09/2024 15:53

I have really long lashes so do both sets to make my eyes look bigger.

Crojo · 14/09/2024 15:53

I only do my top lashes. I have oily skin and everything smudges underneath, even waterproof mascara. It doesn't look odd it just gives a more natural look than doing top and bottom.
I remember as a teen in the 90's reading in magazines to avoid doing your bottom lashes as it creates a shadow and enhances dark circles. I think it was a tip from someone famous from the 50's/60's era.

Karmaisagod · 14/09/2024 16:02

Mascara on bottom lashes is one of those things that I always see make-up artists and influencers religiously do and recommend, but that I cannot get on with. I don't know how to do it without them clumping or smudging or looking disproportionate to the upper lashes.

So I've resigned myself to never doing it. I thought neither did most "normal" (non-beauty artists, non-influencer) people, but I can see from your replies that I was wrong!

Coconutter24 · 14/09/2024 16:08

I always used to up until about 8 months ago, I stopped wearing mascara and eyeliner on the bottom in hope of making my eyes look brighter and younger

EsmeSusanOgg · 14/09/2024 16:10

usernother · 14/09/2024 14:56

No, they don't. I have long bottom lashes and they always smudge.

Same

I have long lower lashes too but when I try and put mascara on they look so spidery and clumpy.

i might try and use a brown mascara to make it look more natural.

Doing top and bottom is standard i think, i always did both until I started getting panda eyes no matter what Mascara i tried.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 14/09/2024 15:06

I have VERY sparse lower lashes and it looks awful when I put mascara on them.

I have the same issue. My top lashes however are very long and thick

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 14/09/2024 16:16

One coat on the bottom and two on the top for me.

Gothamcity · 14/09/2024 16:16

I only wear it on top lashes as my bottom ones are so long it just looks an absolute mess if I attempt to do them. I was considering having them tinted as they are quite light, so maybe I look a bit odd with just my top lashes done 😄 didn't really think about it until I noticed that most people do top and bottom.

Helpnifoseeker · 14/09/2024 16:17

I've had watery and yet dry eyes for a few years now and waterproof mascaras used to just make a mess of me. I found tubing mascaras and no more smearing, which means I can and do use it on my bottom lashes now and , as they're quite long but with fair ends, I'm very happy. Test out some tubing mascaras OP.
Meanwhile, see your GP about your eyes as if they're too dry like mine are, they should prescribe some drops for you. I have Hylocare and HyloForté drops on prescription and they really do help moisturise my eyes and reduce the watering. They can be bought OTC as well , but they're a bit expensive, so ask your GP!

HaddyAbrams · 14/09/2024 16:18

I was told it was old fashioned, dated and makes your eyes look smaller if you do both.

My eyes look odd and unbalanced if I only do the top so I do both. Confused

GenAvocadoOnToast · 14/09/2024 16:21

Just the top lashes, mascara on the lower ones doesn’t look right to me and it smudges. I don’t wear mascara often because I have allergies and it irritates my eyes.

EmeraldIsla · 14/09/2024 16:21

Long lashes here now, due to eyelash serum, and have lashes and brows tinted. No mascara needed!

AllstarFacilier · 14/09/2024 16:32

Mine are too spidery if I do top and bottom. I don’t mind it with a full on face, but for day to day I just do upper lashes.

icantwaitforsummer · 14/09/2024 16:35

Haven't put mascara on the bottom for years. Just do the top.

If I put it on the bottom I think it looks really silly. I don't know why.

Didimum · 14/09/2024 16:37

Only do the top. The bottom looks bad to me on people, but each to their own.
