To ask why people hang poo on trees?

This perplexes me. I can’t think of anything more disgusting than hanging a bag of shit on a tree. Yet they are everywhere.

Someone on here must know someone who does this. What is going through their heads when they do it? Is it a massive “fuck you” to society now expecting poo to be scooped up (I grew up in the 70s/80s when it was acceptable just to leave it on the pavement)?

Or do they think that somehow hanging it like a macabre bauble is what they are meant to do? Do they believe that the Faeces Fairy will come and clear the trees at night time?

Will the bags degrade in time and plop shit on walkers' heads?

I think the plop will degrade before the bags do (unless the dogs are eating something very questionable!)

muddyford · 10/09/2024 18:18

The trouble with hanging it in trees rather than just laying it on the ground is that the bag gets punctured, so I am disinclined to remove it and take it to a bin. I mostly do loops so do leave a bag in a discreet position and collect it on my return. But it is a disgusting habit and I have never seen a perpetrator.

Lots of walks don't have bins on so people hang them on trees or leave them somewhere noticeable to pick them up on the way back to the car, home etc rather than carry the poop bag the entire way.

But they don't retrieve them and either find a bin or take it home to put in their own bin do they?

Riapia · 10/09/2024 18:25

The bags of dog shit are actually more attractive than most of the dogs, at least they don’t try to put their mucky paws on you, when they’re only trying to be friendly.
😉😁😁.

JohnTheRevelator · 11/09/2024 02:24

I think it's because by doing that, they are under the impression that they are not dropping litter on the ground.

JohnTheRevelator · 11/09/2024 02:26

P.S. What's a Dicky bag?!

Stirmish · 11/09/2024 02:32

The plan is they pick it up on their way back

There will be dog people who do this, who are reading this thread and won’t comment on why they do this.

No dog owner should walk past a tree / bush with hanging turds. If you are a dog owner and you see this, dispose of them ALL to redeem dog owners overall.

Otherwise you will be tarred with the same brush; dog ownership being antisocial and disgusting for the majority.

I always pick up after my dog, and I have never hung a bag on a tree.

But you can fuck off if you insist I should pick up other people's dog turds as a way to "redeem" all dog owners.

I suggest you pick up ALL litter you see, as a way to redeem yourself for being a mucky litter dropping human.

I'd love to know who the disgusting fuckers are. My front garden is on the edge of a short path and I have a hedge of different shrubs along the edge of my garden. It's perfectly clear this is someone's home, yet the shit-danglers drape their offerings on my garden plants when there's a bin 1 minute away. It's absolutely disgusting, I can't understand the mentality, I assume they wouldn't throw a bag of rubbish in my garden, why do they think they have the right to put their vile dog shit there?

I get the same. Also thrown under my boundary hedge. Delightful.

Snugglemonkey · 10/09/2024 09:32

I have had to change my babies on walks and in woods. This weekend we were out walking and my 1 year old started shouting "poo". I always carry pull ups and wipes. I put them in nappy sacks and put them back in my bag. Like a civilised person!

I've had a couple of nappies chucked in my garden over the years, but dog poo bags are the main problem. I guess people see bushes and think "Oh! That'll do!"

WearyAuldWumman · 11/09/2024 02:44

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 10/09/2024 12:14

It's only dog owners that hang bags full of dog shit on my garden shrubs. It's not the dogs doing it, or people without dogs, it's the dog owners.
So I'll continue to say how fucking disgusting dog owners are, because they're the ones doing it and making me have to pick up and dispose of their dogs' shit.

I'm sick of it. Also of the turds left in front of my front gate and front hedge. I have to keep stocking up with citrus Zoflora in an attempt to get rid of the mess and deter others.

This is taking me back to the "pockets" thread we had recently about women's clothes.

Part of the reasons why people (men and women) need to carry bloody bags is so that they can carry any rubbish they generate until they are in a position to dispose of it legally and responsibly. Whether that's nappies, food wrappings, or bags of dogshit.

In the country I live in, there are hardly any rubbish bins in public places so we have to carry out rubbish home, so I don't have a lot of sympathy with people who buy a dog, then whine that they have to carry shit about. Get a proper bag and get a zipup case to put inside it for the dogshit. And while you're at it, please get a water squirty bottle too so you can flush away down a drain any pee your dog does if it "collects" on a road or pavement surface. We don't want to step in that either.

Those of you who are decorating trees with bags of shit before going back and collecting them later - please DON'T DO THIS. Because even if you are responsible, you are sending out messages to other, less responsible people that it's acceptable to do this. And they will hang their bags up too and NOT go back for them.

That is true, ethically speaking. On the other hand, the worse the issue gets, the higher than chances that dogs will end up getting banned from growing numbers of areas. It may be in responsible dog owners' interest to try and stop that from happening, or there'll be fewer places you can walk in future.

It is not my job to pick up after lazy dog owners.

RosannaSpider · 11/09/2024 03:25

Dog owner, I dont do it but I thought it was for the litter pickers to clear or something? I know many forest don't have bins which is annoying but I usually just leave it where dog has done it then walk to a bin. People are lazy

Do you mean you think that people hang bags of dog shit in trees to give litter pickers something to pick up or am I mistaken? If I'm not then that is an awful attitude. There wouldn't be litter pickers, who are mainly community volunteers fed up of people dropping litter that spend their time making their community better, if people took their litter and dog shit bags home.

So people who give up their free time to litter pick at their local park (I am one of these) now have to collect other people's bags of dog shit along with all the crisp packets, empty plastic bottles, canisters, half full bottles of cider, etc.

Happily I have never personally encountered a poo bag hanging from a tree in our small local park as either litter picker or dog owner.

Good point about the pee. I used to live in Hong Kong and squirting water to rinse it off the pavement was standard there. Smells more in hot weather of course but no reason not to do the same here

Bloody hell. Litter pickers aren’t volunteering so they can make life easier for messy inconsiderate arseholes, they are volunteering because some people are messy inconsiderate arseholes and they grudgingly accept that if they don’t clear up their shit nobody else will.

If these people are so keen to hang their full poo bag somewhere, you can get little bag holders to attach to leads or dog walking bags for about £1.

I have a fantasy of going round to one of these people’s houses in December and replacing all their Christmas tree decorations with bags of shit.

I get my poo bags off Amazon and they are such nice bright colours. Would make wonderful Chrizzie decs.

Not that I hang out girl's crap on trees in the first place.

Mumoftwo57 · 11/09/2024 08:54

I have a puppy and always pick his mess up and carry it round either till I find a bin or I get home. It’s not nice but that’s one of the parts of owning a dog. I’ve always wondered this myself even as a dog owner. When I took my dog a walk today, I saw something even worse. Bagged poo left on the floor in the middle of the pavements numerous times! At least it won’t stick to your shoe however my puppy loves to grab things he shouldn’t so was continuously trying to grab these black bags. If I hadn’t of noticed them and he’d of had one I’d of ended up with a right barrel of laughs because once he’s got something he won’t let go or you have to physically pull it out of his mouth. Sharp teeth = I’m going to end up covered in dog turd anyway! Joys of a beagle, everything must be food 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 x
