Neighbours CCTV

Can anyone help, advise or has been in this situation.

We have new neighbours opposite slightly to the left. They moved in and when they first moved in , we used to see them peering in people front windows when they were out 🤣 . They’re really bizzare and nosey. They have all their curtains shut themselves but we’ve noticed they put a number of CCTV cameras in their house - inside and outside.

One camera is in their front bedroom and is directed fully into our house- it just points into our bedroom and lounge.

I have children who waddle around with no pants on etc as you can’t see into our house… however this camera can!

Does anyone have any advise on what we do . We are reluctant to talk to them as it’s confrontation and also they’ll say it doesn’t point - is their an official person we can report to on this and any experience help welcomed!

Thank you

It would be a shame if you were playing with the cat with a laser pen and it just happened to shine right into the lens of the camera, wouldn't it.

Would that break it 🤣 I’m sat now on my sofa with a cctv camera filling me- it’s so weird!

How exactly do you know this camera can see into your house? And how closely have you been looking to see what they have in their bedroom?

This sounds like six of one half a dozen of the other to be honest. Get some net curtains if you're worried and crack on.

AsYouWiiiiiiiiiiiiish · 09/09/2024 13:23

I would get the window treatments that mean you can see out, but they can't see in.

The neighbours sound awful and creepy

Londonrach1 · 09/09/2024 13:24

Following. I live in a terraced house and the next door neighbours ring doorbell records every time we leave etc and all conversations we have. We hate it. They recently moved in and put the ring doorbell in. We about to move as a direct result of this doorbell. She messages me photos of what happening here etc... what the guy delivering?

Because it’s a static cctv indoor ring video facing directly into us

how does it sound like six of one and half a dozen of the other 🤣🤣🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Oh yeah I can see how that’s tricky. We have a ring doorbell but are in detached houses and the boundary is set to the end of our property. It would drive me mental if it was set further as it pings anytime there’s movement- they must get Alerted constantly when everyone walks past?!!!

Get some frosted window cling on that window. I have it at the lower windows in my playroom as I hated people walking by and peering in at the kids playing. It's cheap on amazon and much better than nets.

SharpWriter · 09/09/2024 13:33

How do you know they have cameras inside their house and in their bedroom!?

I very much doubt they've done it purely to watch you or other neighbours. If it's in their front bedroom then that's likely to be so it has a view of the front path/driveway, not because they want to spy on you and your kids.

ShortScot · 09/09/2024 13:33

Rabbitgoo window film - Amazon it!

I'd be so tempted to tell my local police exactly this.

Pantaloons99 · 09/09/2024 13:36

@SharpWriter unfortunately I know many people who secretly want power and control by monitoring people's activities. There truly are enough messed up boundary oversteppers out there. If OP feels something is off here, I believe it.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 09/09/2024 13:38

Window film. You can see out but from outside looking in it's mirrored. But at night with indoor lights on you can see in. So close curtains before you put lights on.

Can you put up a fence or plant a hedge that blocks their view of the front of your house? Or a carefully placed tree?

Spenditlikebeckham · 09/09/2024 13:38

Consider asking the local police for advice. They can't have a camera directing into your property. I would print off A4 sheets of
FUCK OFF NOSEY CUNTS on it. Stick them in your windows..

Because you've clearly been peering into their bedroom window too!

It should be obvious that the most plausible explanation is that the camera is watching their driveway / front garden and not your bedroom.

Get net curtains or those window films that another poster has suggested if you're that worried.

Daleksatemyshed · 09/09/2024 13:40

I'd be curious what they were up to Op, all their curtains closed but constant camera footage of everyone else. Have you spoken to them at all because they might feel they have a valid reason.

Wineandcupcakes · 09/09/2024 13:40

There is absolutely no way you can tell if that camera can see inside your house. No way at all. Firstly glass usually bounces back the image so it doesn’t show and secondly you don’t know where the boundaries are. They maybe weird but you sound a little clueless.

Itisjustmyopinion · 09/09/2024 13:40

If you don’t want to talk to them about it or ask them to reposition the camera, your only option is to get privacy film

If they can’t see in then they may get bored and move the camera anyway

But option 1 would be to talk to them about it

Itsmahoneybaloney · 09/09/2024 13:44

I would 100% put the privacy film up but I'm also quite bolshy and I'd go round there and ask them to show you what is visible from their camera and remind them its a criminal offence to record naked children etc. I'd make quite a deal about it because they seem like that's and I'd want them to know they can't just get away with doing whatever they want.

I like this! Yeah it’s honestly so weird. It’s a static video camera- we have one in our house the same that we have for our dog (it’s in the boot room with no windows in but it’s to watch our dog on) and they have the exact video camera as he so we know how it works and that it’s facing us type thing. I think some people are just so weird ! I do keep giving the camera the middle finger!

Yes I’m clueless ✌️

There was a thread sometime ago and people were mentioning that there were rules regulating what can be visible on your camera/ ring bell. Plus you need to put up signs on your property etc. I was about to get Ring bell so was reading it to check . So I would google it.
I think you can request from them what can be seeing and ask about how they store the info. So I would do a lot of googling and then go from there depending on answers. I wouldn’t go to them until your legal position is absolutely clear, you might need a letter from a solicitor.

Their bedroom window is opposite ours - literally 10 meters away. We open our curtains and the camera is there , red light on facing us. What’s your problem ? You seem to have a problem here

Edited

Yeah I’ve just been on the phone to 101 whilst writing this - they’ve been brilliant. It is a civil matter they said and we can ask what they can see and to move it positions. But also they said they will come and look at it as I sent them a photo and they couldn’t believe it it is to the extend it is just facing our house type thing.
