A man told me how I should have reverse parked. I told him to floss and use a stain resistant toothpaste.

I had to use DH truck today - which I rarely drive. I then has a tricky reverse park in a busy town. A man watched the whole thing with his arms cross, chuckling and came over and offered a lot of critique and unsolicited advice.
WIBU to offer him critique and unsolicited advice in return?

Yeah yeah, I know I was rude but fuck me, he was a twat of the highest order.

I may have used the phrase "Is it FREE ADVICE DAY? GREAT?"

Haha I got told off once by a pensioner for wearing a camouflage print biker jacket on my motorbike. He said why am I so stupid wearing camo so nobody can see me.The jacket had reflective patches all over it, my lights were full on and I wasn't riding through a fecking forest.

To be fair, anything you wear on a motorbike becomes The Cloak of Invisibility.

Chocolateorange22 · 08/09/2024 23:01

Gets my goat. My company has a reverse park policy. Consequently I'm actually quite good at it as a result and can park our long car in the tightest of spaces. Parking at the hospital the once I had the window down and swung out ready to reverse. Chap walking past in his trackies, Nike's and a manky cap "oi love want us to park it for you?". I ignored the pillock and got the car in first time. He waited until I got out of the car before clapping me saying "you sure you ain't a bloke cuz women can't park innit" I dead eyeballed him and replied "definitely all woman, I'll let my vagina know that you approve of my parking, thanks" and walked off. He just stood there cogs whirring trying to make sense of it.

MzHz · 08/09/2024 23:09

Utter legend @user47 he was asking for it.

bet he’s been wondering about what you meant about flossing alllll day 🤣🤣🤣

ChampagneLassie · 08/09/2024 23:09

I’d just reverse parked in a very tight space and paused to admire it when a passing man offered to get my car out for me as someone had boxed me in. He didn’t believe me when I said I’d just parked it, until another man, on some scaffolding shouted down that he’d watched me do it! Random man 1 did not praise me he just walked away shaking his head

ClockwiseHoneysuckle · 08/09/2024 23:18

I had a man "helping" me out of a parking space the other day. I called cheerily out of the window something to the effect of "Thanks, but I've got a reversing camera" and did a smart turn and whizzed off. I do wonder why these people assume you need help without asking.

Thorilicious · 08/09/2024 23:24

Myself and some mum friends camp every year. A couple of men arrived one night, and made snide comments about women camping.
When packing up the next day, they were asking when the men folk were arriving to pack up everything. Didn't believe us when we said we were doing it. They went for an hour long dog walk and were amazed when they came back that almost everything was packed. Apparently they'd never seen women do that before...

Happyasapiginmuck1 · 08/09/2024 23:24

I had a new nextdoor neighbour who stood and watched me reverse park behind his car into a very small space. He was all ready to give his advice and wave his arms about as necessary, but I did it as I always do in one swift move. He congratulated me as I got out of the car! 😂 The joys of living on a terrace.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 08/09/2024 23:27

Good for you, I wouldn't encourage others to do this though in case you get stabbed. Xx

BluebellsareBlue · 08/09/2024 23:29

I'm
Confused, did you actually say those things to him about his teeth? If so, I think you were unreasonable. There's no excuse to ever shame someone for how they look. If all you said was 'oh is it free advice day' then fair enough. But that's not what your title says. It makes me mad to think a man was laughing at your efforts and felt the need to 'school' you. But it makes me sadder to think he was responded to by ridiculing his looks :-(

billybear · 08/09/2024 23:35

i go to my local tip. and nearly every time a man also dropping off rubbish different one every time gives me a wave from where i am at front of que waiting for next space to dump my stuff, they tell me there is a space its usually very small then i get blocked in waiting for people near me to finish their dumping of rubbish.last time i shouted i will wait for a bigger space they shouted of of course women cant get in small spaces, i replied i usually get blocked in and have to wait so i will wait for a bigger space to start with thank you

Appalonia · 08/09/2024 23:44

YOU ARE MY HERO! Just glad he didn't deck you tbh. 😂

Screamingabdabz · 08/09/2024 23:48

Ugh men who think they have to ‘help’ me reverse park. I always roll down the window and say “it’s ok mate, I’ve been driving over 30 years I can park a car.” They always get huffy but fuck ‘em. Patronising berks.

I respectfully disagree, we should fireback with both barrels it's the only language these protohominids understand.

ncforcatquestion · 09/09/2024 00:34

That's really horrible

JambalayaOrGumbo · 09/09/2024 01:11

In a similar situation, I now say what I heard my daughter say once:

Didn't ask

It said everything and there was no comeback ☺

Seiling · 09/09/2024 01:19

LongTimeReading · 08/09/2024 21:45

It really isn't. The OP would have said the same and posted all about it here had it been a woman who "helped" her.

The point is that women don’t generally ‘help’ random strangers park though

There was one in Currys who felt duty-bound to help my husband choose a new steam iron. 😂

Oh, FUCK classy. Also, it was, in point of fact, quite witty.

No it wasn't witty, it was downright rude.

AnAussieHaiku · 09/09/2024 04:12

Men are dangerous

Before speaking consider

The consequences

Happyinarcon · 09/09/2024 04:18

A lot of older men want to be helpful and are a bit tone deaf. I’m always pleasant and appreciative even if it’s naff advice. Many people are feeling a bit disconnected and lonely at the moment, so I like spreading good vibes.

Hoppinggreen · 08/09/2024 20:39

That was neither as clever or funny as you think.
He was a Dick, you could have made your point AND been a bit more classy

This.

URGH *Had a tricky
I can't even do basic grammar now, a man will be along to correct me shortly 😂

This is one old man that thinks you're badass. I wish I was as quick-minded. I'd spend the rest of the day imagining something witty I could have said.

JudgeJ · 08/09/2024 22:13

Similar thing happened to me, I was reverse parking into a small space, a group of men sitting outside a cafe were watching, clearly expecting to be entertained! Sadly for them I am very good at reverse parking and when I got out they started to clap and were disappointed when I simply said It's hardly rocket science, is it?

😆😆 that was a great response you gave them

TerfTalking · 09/09/2024 06:46

RedRobyn2021 · 08/09/2024 20:47

I disagree

I think it was clever AND funny

Me too, and he absolutely deserved it.

I bet he went straight home and checked his teeth out.

CornedBeef451 · 09/09/2024 07:54

@ChampagneLassie I love that you had paused to admire your parking! I do that sometimes too.
