To ask if you have medium to long length hair what you do with it to sleep

I'm clearly dim and missing a trick despite having the same hair cut for nearly 40 years. Not far below shoulder length wavy hair. Thanks to young kids, my hair in the day is nearly always in a claw grip clip to get it away from my face. At night I let it down because I obviously can't sleep with a clip, but my god my hair pisses me off. In the summer, unbearable, sticks to me. Last night, tickles me. And I wake up looking like a mess. Don't do hairbands as they leave a kink, or if left loose, fall out. I always shower in the evening, let it dry naturally. I am up and down all night with the kids, and also toss and turn A LOT so anything that requires me to sleep (spooned) gracefully like a movie star is absolutely out of the question. But I'm kind of sick of waking up looking like I haven't washed or brushed it. Also showers in the morning would be impossible. Oh and I have the technical skill with anything hair and make up as a donkey with boxing gloves 😁

Thanks I'm advance!

@BloodandGlitter - thanks for the 'racism' lesson as I had no idea, I'm just a white person with unruly white person's hair who associates the describing and wearing of 'bonnets' with Charlotte Bronte and times gone by, when most women wore 'bonnets' irrespective of skin colour.

Just a question - bearing in mind that I'm aware of bonnet wearing on a massive scale - isn't silk a more expensive and mostly unobtainable material for most bonnet wearers in years gone by? It might be the most preferable material but hardly the most available material for the poorer levels of any society.

The PP stated a "silk bonnet" which I found rather amusing terminology in this day and age.

It's a sad day when a light-hearted humourist has to explain their statement in detail to avert rather 'out there' criticism. Just say I'm shit and not funny.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/09/2024 01:30

Now I really want a SILKE hair bonnet! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Dotto · 08/09/2024 01:35

I end up dribbling on it unless I plait it loosely.

Thistooshallpass24 · 08/09/2024 01:39

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing this looks very similar

When I had long extensions in, I braided them into pigtails & then used grips to fasten each braid over the top of my head every night so I wouldn't pull on them in my sleep.

Growlybear83 · 08/09/2024 02:31

My hair is waist length and other than brushing it, I don't do anything with it at night . I'm quite a restless sleeper nowadays but my hair doesn't get tangled or need anything more than a brush in the morning if I'm not washing it.

FastFood · 08/09/2024 03:16

Silk bonnet from Silke. Best £50 I ever spent.

EBearhug · 08/09/2024 08:37

I got a silk hair cap free from lilysilk when I made a purchase (of bedding) over whatever the threshold was - maybe £100. (At other times, I've had eyemasks or scrunchies.) They're around £30. A quick Google suggests Silkysilk ones are cheaper.

SquatWeightaMinute · 08/09/2024 08:41

If I want it wavy I put it into two braids before bed. Otherwise it’s just loose or tied in a loose bun on top of my head.

SaltAndPepperGyoza · 08/09/2024 08:50

Like some other posters, I wear a silk bonnet over my waist length curly hair and it has been life changing for me. My hair used to be a frizzy nightmare and now I get regular compliments on how lovely it is.
I can't sleep without it now. If I ever try my hair irritates the hell out of me.

toomanyjobsforonewoman · 08/09/2024 09:07

I wear a silk bonnet on my bum length hair and leave the hair loose inside it. So much more comfy than a bun

Kelly51 · 08/09/2024 09:46

Not sure why you're worried about a kink from a hairband when it's clipped up all day. I put it in a high loose bun.

Blackberriesandcobwebs · 08/09/2024 09:49

High ponytail, job done.

WonderingWanda · 08/09/2024 09:53

I have thick hair the same length and it takes ages to straighten so I don't do it. I got a Revlon blow dry brush and if it has kinks or looks a bit dishevelled a quick blast seems to smooth it all out and you can give it a bit of shape if you have layers. I also have a fringe so can just give that a quick wash in the sink if I don't want to do all my hair.

Member984815 · 08/09/2024 09:54

Loose plait , I can't stand the feel of it sticking to my neck

OldTinHat · 08/09/2024 09:56

I have almost waist length wavy hair. I twirl it up and shove it in a very attractive silk bonnet thing which falls over my eyes and doubles up as a sleep mask

Gazelda · 08/09/2024 10:20

Silk scrunchie on top of my head and a silk pillowcase.

Cherrysoup · 08/09/2024 10:29

It gets scrunched up into a bun. It would be wrecked no matter what I do overnight, so pointless trying to ‘save’ it. It’s incredibly curly.

cinammonfishsticks · 08/09/2024 14:44

Truly this is one of the best things I've discovered in recent years

amzn.eu/d/83EVXLu

Use it every night and takes about 5 seconds to put in once you get the hang of it. I wake up with a blow dry every day!

YeahWellWhyNot · 08/09/2024 17:51

Thanks everyone! I tried a scrunchie bun last night but it was a velvet sort as that's all I could find. Clearly did it wrong because I woke up with a a very bushy mop that went all over the shop. I have my eye on a silk one at boots so I may whip round there tomorrow and get one. Otherwise I remember I do actually have a silk bonnet with long ties if I can ever work out how the ties work 😡 but I may end up looking very "little house on the prairie" how fetching for DH 🤣

You can buy the heartless curler thing for £1.99 in home bargains

DillDanding · 08/09/2024 18:03

I have long, curly hair. I put it in a bun on the top of my head in a silk scrunchie so it looks good in the morning.

Theordinary · 08/09/2024 18:06

I have a silk bonnet which works nicely. I feel like a victorian lady when I wear it.

Imalongtimepostingmum · 08/09/2024 18:11

I whack it up in a bun with a plastic spiral bobble thing. But I always wash it in the morning so it doesn't really matter if it's a mess.

Blahblahblah2 · 08/09/2024 18:16

I do a French plait every night. Have done this since my teens. I have thick wavy hair.
